About Catch - San Francisco
Located firmly within San Francisco's Castro district, 2362 Market Street is steeped in city history. Here, Catch makes its mark in a storefront registered as an official city landmark that originally housed the burgeoning NAMES Project, which famously organized the creation of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. The history remains with the building, but Catch aims to create a new legacy while honoring the spirit of creativity and expression rooted in its surroundings.
To foster this spirit, the chefs rotate their menus regularly, accommodating seasonal produce and fresh catches of local, sustainably sourced seafood. Each dish showcases these ingredients while incorporating Mediterranean influences and minimalist Californian sensibilities toward composition and presentation.
Since opening in October 2002, Catch is the perfect place to gather for every occasion – handcrafted artisanal cocktails and appetizers at the bar, a cozy romantic dinner for two by the fireplace.

Catch - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
Great dinner and cocktails every time. If you like gin, there is a specialty drink on left bottom of drink menu I can't remember the name of, but it was remarkably tasty. It was a little sweeter than I usually would drink, and I normally drink only one cocktail, but I had two. The striped bass with crab risotto was splendid. Rich and unctuous layers of flavor. My friend had a Hangar steak special that he said was wonderful. Plated presentation always top notch, and the waiter always able to provide a description of the menu items and cocktails. Bread pudding dessert is a unique adventure with the use of sourdough bread that provides a subtle but noted sweet and sour play on an old fashioned favorite. Creme Brule dessert is a good choice for a nice finish to a sumptuous meal. No, I'm not an employee, just a repeat diner with a good memory in case you're wondering.
I have been going to Catch for years and never before experienced such a disappointing meal. For example, the bass sat upon a huge pile of soggy risotto which overwhelmed the dish and the waiter was inattentive. I hope the restaurant can return to its former standards as I think that Catch has the nicest ambience in the Castro.
The meals were good but the see bass on my dish and the scallops and shrimp on my husbands were small servings. Most of our serving was tasty risotto but we had gone to this restaurant was for seafood. For the price we were charge we did not feel it was worth it. Probably will not go to this restaurant again since there are so many other choices in SF.
Another excellent dinner at Catch! We really liked our server, Kathleen, too! We started with a gem salad instead of our usual Caesar, and we were not disappointed. Then we shared an order of mussels, which are irresistible, particularly because of the harissa sauce. We also shared an order of scallops and shrimp, highlighted by outstanding risotto. Everything was delicious!
Haven't been to this restaurant for a couple of years and boy oh boy I sure have been missing out! It is still a wonderful neighborhood restaurant with style and class (just as much as the day it opened!). Lunch was absolutely amazing! The Salmon with risotto is to die for! Couldn't ask for a more attentive staff or a more relaxed quiet setting (I sat in the enclosed front patio/dining area). Will be back again and again and again..........
While the service was very pleasant and certainly adequate, the servers seemed confused. One server started our service, took an order, then a second server came for our order and was actually the person who served our meal.
It seemed that the two servers had not communicated with one another, as the first server did provide three wines for us to taste, but the second server was not aware of the fact that we were choosing a wine, nor was the server aware of what we had ordered from the first server.
It just struck us as odd. In addition, it was a slow night so we couldn't understand why there was confusion.
First time here and we all loved our meals. The drinks were tasty and interesting, although a little too muddling of the oreange in my old fashioned. But the service was great and the food was prepared incredibly well and very savory! I highly recommend. Thanks to Cathch servers and staff.
We have dined many times at Catch . It is our go to Neighborhood restaurant . Easy to get a reservation, non pretentious, decent food, predictable. Not sure what happened this time. Hugh took our order, repeated it back to us. We got our appetizers and first round of drinks . Entree came, unfortunately they gave me the Alaskan Halibut instead of the Skirt steak . Not even close . Hugh apologized and said the kitchen made a mistake . I had to shared my husbands dinner because the steak took a while to arrive. Hugh offered if we wanted a second round of drinks and we agreed . My steak finally came, my husband was almost done with his dinner (I ate half of it ) . Bill came and they have indeed charged me for the halibut + the steak + my husband’s entree. They deducted the halibut (which i did not order) that was it ! Being a long time customer, I decided to approach the maître d' and share my feedback . I said, at a minimum a free beer $7.00 would have been nice . Ryan, was a little dismissive. He would not let me talk and basically said : “yeah, yeah, we made a boo boo. Let me write my name on your receipt and maybe , maybe next time I’ll get you a free drink or appetizer” really ? I spent $150 and I may get a drink next time ? Very disappointed with Catch . It will be a while before I go back and spend my $ there .
Nice variety of fresh seafood plus a couple of beef options, both on the weekly menu and the regular menu. I ate tiger shrimp and giant scallop special over quinoa with butternut squash. Just excellent. I do not ever remember eating such big scallops. My bride enjoyed halibut over risotto with a wonderful Tarragon sauce. Portions were ample.
I've been to Catch many times and very often in recent past months. Their quality of food is very consistent. Delicious seafood overall. Service is always very friendly and since the restaurant is so spacious one never have problems finding a table to reserve at last minute. I'm neve hesitant to book it when have friends visiting as I'm sure it's going to be good.
Quiet dinner with friend after shopping.
Service was adequate but restaurant not crowded. Main concern was that the cioppino had little seafood - mostly salmon and the shrimp were very small (like frozen deshelled shrimp at Safeway 30 count), only few small mussels and even fewer clams. Broth was fine. Dinner companion and myself were disappointed.
We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. One of the best meals I have had anywhere, including SF, NYC and Chicago. A marvelous menu of creativity. The Halibut special served with risotto was sensational. Perfectly prepared, seasoned and presented. The Salmon entree was also spot on and delicious. Dessert was amazing. Hats off to the chef ! Will definitely be back next time in San Francisco.
We started off with the mussels, which were delicious as usual. The caesar salad was also cold and crisp and very enjoyable. The scallops were perfect as a main course, but the black cod was undercooked and slimy. The fact that the cod was served with creamy pasta did not help, so I cancelled the dish. The service was OK, but we had to ask for an ice bucket for our wine several times and the bread basket did not come until we asked. We have had more attentive service.
This was the second night in a row that we visited Catch and I used OpenTable as is was a Friday. The first night my wife had the Pan Fried Scallops starter and was so impressed she insisted we returned the following night so she could order it again! On the first occasion I was also very impressed with the Miso Glazed Black Cod. On the Friday, either due to the greater number of diners or a change of chef, the scallops tasted as good but their presentation wasn't so neat. I chose the Striped Bass which I enjoyed very much but could have done with less crab risotto.
This was our first time at Catch and we were impressed with the ambiance and quality of service. On the Friday night a pianist climbed up a ladder to a platform, where a grand piano was installed, and proceeded to entertain for some time. Very novel!
Food was awesome. I had braised beef and Ciapino. The braised beef was tender, fast and cooked to perfection with Brussels sprouts and Parmesan mashed potatoes. The Ciapino was very tasty with lots of delicious fresh sea food. Huge serving. I will definitely return to Catch. Service was also very good. Staff was friendly and attentive .
High prices for small portions of unexceptional food. The staff was friendly, though at the end I had to get up to take them my credit card to pay the bill, and the ambience was enjoyable. All told, 50 bucks out the door for two salads - no drinks - and at least one of us was hungry by the time he got home.
We had friends visiting from the Philly area who had taken us to a delightful restaurant in NYC on our last visit. We wanted to do something "gay", and decided on Catch -- we were not disappointed. The service was excellent, food was very good, and we could hear each other for conversation, which is not always the case in SF. And the prices were half of NYC! We all enjoyed the meal, and my husband and I will certainly return.
It was a birthday dinner and I was looking for some different fish on the menu. The baked branzino was simply delicious and so was my husband's cioppino soup. My daughter ordered the crab risotto which I found too creamy and thick and my other daughter got the onion soup which we all found was a bit on the sweet side.
The ambient and the service (Tyler) were really good and attentive and the dessert (chocolate souffle and brownie) decadent!
We'll go back
