About Catch - San Francisco
Located firmly within San Francisco's Castro district, 2362 Market Street is steeped in city history. Here, Catch makes its mark in a storefront registered as an official city landmark that originally housed the burgeoning NAMES Project, which famously organized the creation of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. The history remains with the building, but Catch aims to create a new legacy while honoring the spirit of creativity and expression rooted in its surroundings.
To foster this spirit, the chefs rotate their menus regularly, accommodating seasonal produce and fresh catches of local, sustainably sourced seafood. Each dish showcases these ingredients while incorporating Mediterranean influences and minimalist Californian sensibilities toward composition and presentation.
Since opening in October 2002, Catch is the perfect place to gather for every occasion – handcrafted artisanal cocktails and appetizers at the bar, a cozy romantic dinner for two by the fireplace.

Catch - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
We were seeing a double bill at the Castro and wanted to try someplace nearby we hadn't before. Found Catch on OpenTable, liked the menu and reviews, so booked a reservation. We were very pleasantly surprised to be served some of the best seafood we've ever had in SF. We were seated beside a circular fireplace in a cozy little anteroom. My husband and I both had grilled tuna over artichoke hearts, roasted Yukon gold potatoes, and green beans. The green beans were a tad undercooked and under-seasoned. But the rest of the dish was fabulous. For dessert, he had the brioche bread pudding with whipped cream and whiskey sauce. I had a type of crunchy baked chocolate cake filled with creamy vanilla gelato and topped with a drizzle of caramel. Both dishes were heavenly!
The wine list is good and on the evening we went, bottles were 50% off, which was a great deal. I've been here a few times and the food is good. The menu is varied and the fish is always cooked well and has nice flavor. The issue for me is that the chef is a bit heavy handed when seasoning other components (broth, risotto, etc.). The service is warm, gracious, and swift.
Love this place, love the food. San Francisco is San Francisco. Each place has quirks. Some good some not. On this occasion we ordered Martinis. On the bill they spell it out; $10 for the gin and a separate $1.50 for it being a martini. The explanation given was, frankly, stupid. Even if not stupid the drink cost $11.50, fair enough. Bottom line, I am offended when I come across bills like this.
From the onset of being seated, we were greeted by a very attentive server and provided us with various drink/cocktail options. We both ordered one of the best Manhattans the both of us have had with imported olives! I chose the prefixe meal option and this was well worth what was charged. The abundant Hangar steak dinner was done as I requested and very tasty. My friend's sea bass over risotto was just as well prepared. My bread pudding dessert with a hint of whisky was hearty enough to be shared! Definitely, a great dinner with an awful friend!!
We dined during restaurant week and both of our meals were superb. The hanger steak was cooked to perfection and the flavor meld of the tuna with mustard sauce was spot on.
Our server, Page, was solicitous and kind. We were too full to have our dessert and he packaged it up for us, not an easy feat since it involved two sauces. The bread pudding was fabulous the next day.
We had never been there before but it will be on our regular list from now on.
This was our first time at this great neighborhood restaurant. Each dish was prepared extremely well. Lovely use of herbs that subtly accented both of our fish dinners. They also have a nice selection of wines to cater to a variety of palates. We will definitely be returning!
