Catch - San Francisco

Seafood
Located firmly within San Francisco's Castro district, 2362 Market Street is steeped in city history. Here, Catch makes its mark in a storefront registered as an official city landmark that originally housed the burgeoning NAMES Project, which famously organized the creation of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. The history remains with the building, but Catch aims to create a new legacy while honoring the spirit of creativity and expression rooted in its surroundings.

To foster this spirit, the chefs rotate their menus regularly, accommodating seasonal produce and fresh catches of local, sustainably sourced seafood. Each dish showcases these ingredients while incorporating Mediterranean influences and minimalist Californian sensibilities toward composition and presentation.

Since opening in October 2002, Catch is the perfect place to gather for every occasion – handcrafted artisanal cocktails and appetizers at the bar, a cozy romantic dinner for two by the fireplace.

Food was delicious, service was good. Server reminded us to keep masks on until food and beverage were at table, which was nice to hear, though I saw lots of people seated in the patio with no food/drink and no masks on. I’m sure enforcement of masks is a delicate subject for staff who are relying on tips, but would have felt better if I had seen them ask some to put their masks back on. Other than that, a great experience.

If you want the best (and I mean the Best!) tasting salmon dish you will ever have, you must try Catch. Food is excellent, service superb and prices very reasonable. Street noise from Market Street a little loud for outside dining, but other than that everything is excellent.

On a chilly night dining outside because of COVID the Catch Seafood Chowder, Catch Seafood Stew and the Braised Short Ribs were the perfect choices. We started with the grilled artichokes. I will visit again. The only one improvement would be heaters for the chilly nights at all the tables, not just the ones under the patio.

Alberto's service was outstanding and welcoming. Mussels dish had very tiny mussels so little meat, so recommended waiting for it to be season.

As usual; amazing everything. This is one of those places where one can select anything on the menu and it will be impeccably prepared the freakin’ delicious. These chefs are truly magicians with fish; though seriously, everything on the menu (short ribs!) is delicious.

Service is professional and friendly, unusual or last-minute requests are handled with alacrity, the experience is always pleasant. One of our party mentioned that “you can tell that there are professionals in the kitchen just from the way the food is presented.”

It was a cold-ish evening; resulting in a table of lobster pasta (omg), cioppino (truly awesome), and the always-perfect salmon. Plus, artichokes, spinach... all were dated, all were happy.

ONE suggestion: room-temperature butter. It won’t spoil. But cold-hard butter is no complement to soft, delicious bread.

Don't go to this place if you are over 60. He sat us at a table and then pulled up his wheelchair and told us he wanted to go over the restaurant's COVID regulations. He asked us if we have been around someone with covid in the last 14 days, and had we had symptoms during the last 14 days. He went on and on. My friend said he felt like we were taken hostage. We noticed throughout the evening that we were the only ones who got the covid protocols. When he was done talking I told him that we eat out a lot and already knew what he had just said. That's when he said there were troublemakers who won't ware masks, and he proceeded to say and it's always people like us. I said you mean 65 years old and he said yes. Then they rushed us through our $250 meal. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE, and I'll bet I've dropped over $5K in the last ten years there!

New to the Bay Area, we wanted to get out and find a place to eat in the Castro. I just happened upon this place from both Open Table and Yelp, having been craving a good seafood dinner for 2 weeks. The restaurant was up with Covid-19 protocols, and we felt safe.

The food was amazing. I started with the mussels. which were some of the best I had ever had. The Chorizo broth is worth the whole trip to eat there. I then had the halibut while my partner had the lobster linguine. The food here was so wonderful, that I have to make it back to try more of the menu. The chef understands how foods can be exciting, and I plan to take that journey with them.

I understand restaurants are operating under challenging circumstances but I am not sure that serving drinks in plastic cups is justified when the total dinner for 4 was over $300.00. Overall not great value. There are other better restaurants in the area.

Catch is a pillar of the Castro! Be sure to pause and learn about history as you see a panel of the AIDS memorial quilt displayed in the foyer. The hospitality, service, food quality, and cleanliness are superior. Catch’s charming and dedicated owner is always there tending to the guests and their needs or requests! Support Catch with your patronage and you will not be disappointed! Sincerely, Jennifer a 25 year resident of San Francisco

Order anything but the beet salad. It was supposed to have goat cheese and fennel - what I got was a pile of lettuce with a small piece of salmon for $21. Every other time I've had great food here, but this was a miss.

The server asked that we wear a mask in between mouthfuls of food and sips of our drink. Im not sure that is required by the city but perhaps each establishment is entitled to enforce rules stricter than city requirements. Drinks were served in plastic cups. Ive eaten out a bit in COVID times and this is not the norm however I respect this may be their choice.

I went there with my wife during the COVID-19 pandemic. The hoster was very clear about the health measures during the check-in. Masks were required at all times, except when actively drinking or eating, and the stay was limited to 1 hr and 15 minutes - I don’t remember the exact period, actually, but it was something around that. The service, drinks and food were amazing and everything was served incredibly fast.
