Catch 19 (Red Bank, NJ) Ratings and Reviews
A good local seafood restaurant but far from the quality of the top-notch restaurants and it charges the similar price. The ambient music was too loud to have a good conversation among among us, unless we would have had to talk loudly like the folks at neighbor tables.
The bar was crowded and lively. But it is in the middle of the first floor dining room. It is noisy and really loud to the dining folks nearby.
Had a reservation at 9. Seated at 9:39. Took an hour and a half for entrees to be delivered after we finished our appetizers. Was told during this hour and half that they ran out of lamb (my entree) and they were going to substitute steak instead, which is fine. But then, after waiting so long, the entrees were cold when they came out. And my boyfriend's lamb was undercooked. Angry shrimp was a good dish. That's about it. Would not recommend this place.
We went to Catch for Christmas dinner this week and unfortunately we were very disappointed. We love Red Bank and thought a nice fish restaurant would be nice for our Christmas dinner. This restaurant has no ambiance... bright lights, a nothing design and they next to the door! No one greeted us. We had to ask a waiter where the hostess was. No one said Merry Christmas to us, even the owner who came to the table next to us to clean it. I said hello to him and he acted like I was interrupting him! Unbelievable! That was a big turnoff. Food was just ok, nothing special. They charged us $75.00 for the lobster dish my husband had. Broiled lobster... 75.00! We dine out several times a week and won’t be going back to this restaurant.
This was out third Christmas Eve dinner at Catch. The menu is the same as previous years. The specials were very limited. I wasn't as satisfied this year with my dinner. Even though we have gone just once a year, the menu is beginning to seem too routine. Even the desserts were the same. We will try somewhere new next year.
Everything about Catch 19 from the music, the art, the service, the culture and ambiance deliver at the highest level and the food is the crown jewel. From the appetizers to the desserts, we felt totally fulfilled and happy. But most important, it's the total experience. We felt that this was a memorable experience that will have us returning and sharing with our family and friends.
Food and service were both excellent!!!! The atmosphere is beautiful, however they should do away with the big glass window into the kitchen! There is nothing to see going on in there and the fluorescent light into the dining room destroys the elegant ambiance! Otherwise... wonderful evening!!
Such an amazing business lunch, I changed our family dinner plans to come back the same day! 7 dishes and sides between the two meals, all exquisite. I experienced the tuna with arugula for lunch and the Tuscan chicken for dinner, with a little extra spice per my request. Both waiters were super friendly and just the right amount of attentiveness. They also have an amazing Yamaha piano, so we were able to enjoy my son stroking the pearly whites! Back again soon!!!
Ordered sparkling water was given still. Lobster was over cooked and dry with very little meat. Bread was not offered or brought to the table until we asked and then by the time it came the entrees had arrived. Overpriced for what it was. Lobster entree was $85 and the crab meat stuffing was very fishy and lobster was mediocre at best.
First time we’ve been there since they moved down the street and picked up a liquor license. Was great to be able order a draft beer and a glass of wine with our meals. Seafood is fresh well-prepared and delicious. Travis our server was outstanding. He really knew the menu and made great recommendations. We ate upstairs which was quieter as downstairs was way too noisy with piano player and the bar crowd. Overall a great place and fantastic seafood if you can tolerate the noise level.
This restaurant was a total disappointment!! Do not waste your time nor your money to go here! First of all, all hot dishes were served luke warm or cold. All of the seafood was overcooked to the point that we could not eat it. The scallops were rubbery and the lobster did not have any flavor whatsoever. The only positive comment I can make is that our server, Jill, was extremely pleasant and kept apologizing for our dissatisfaction. We asked to speak with the manager. He told us he was shocked we didn’t like the food as he never gets complaints. This comment surprises me as I now see negative comments on this site and people posted how they spoke with him about their problems with the food. If only I read them before wasting over $250. I will say the manager gave me his card and said to call him to give him another chance… He said he would make sure everything was perfect the next time we came… Honestly, I can think of a better way to spend $250 than to try this restaurant for a second time.
We had an out of town client in and decided to try Catch 19. We were so glad we did. The food was outstanding and our waitress was helpful and very knowledgeable about the menu and suggested, when asked, which appetizer or entree we should choose. The fact that we didn’t feel rushed was a plus. We will be back.
It was such a disappointment. Things started off poorly and continued to get worse throughout the evening.
I will start with my one positive comment - This was my second time dining at Catch 19 this week because the angry shrimp and lobster appetizer is possibly the best dish I have ever eaten.
With the good behind us, dinner was a disaster. It began with our waiter who had an extremely hard time opening a bottle of wine and started to walk away with the cork. We were a party of 4 and for appetizers we had 2 onion soups, 1 angry shrimp, and 1 angry shrimp with lobster. The onion soups come out first (alone). About 3-5 minutes later the angry shrimp came out. 5-7 minutes later the angry shrimp and lobster arrived, however without the crostini. Within about 5 minutes of the last appetizer being served, two of the entrees were walked to the table, which I rejected. In about 3-5 minutes later the other 2 entrees arrived (also rejected). By now I was just disgusted. I had such high hopes, because everything was excellent earlier in the week.
Once dinner arrives, two of the entrees were cold. In my opinion, they served us the same plates that were previously rejected because we were still eating appetizers. They come back and are warm. First the server that delivered the veal risotto is arguing me with insisting it is lamb risotto (which wasn't even on the menu - clearly clueless). The rice was so overcooked and total mush; It was awful.
The manager, John, came over to"apologize" and made every excuse possible from, we have only been at this location for 1 month, to it's busy because it's Restaurant Week (mind you we had a 5:00 reservation - not busy yet), and so on. He gave me his business card and said to call him before the next time we come and we will receive his special attention next time.
I'm not looking for handouts, just wanted to have a pleasant dining experience with my family. Guess we should have gone to Char.
One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. AWFUL service - it was 40 minutes before our full drink order & basket of bread made it to the table. There were only 4 of us at our table. Restaurant unable to handle service during normal dinner hours. Our waiter got snarky after messing up a food order. Appetizers were good & that is the only good thing I can say. Entree came out lukewarm with dried sauce as it had been siting out. I would not return here for another meal.
Wonderful dining experience. Server was spot on with knowledge of the menu. Food was fresh, well prepared and presented. Seating is a bit awkward with several different rooms - each had its own good and bad. But the treat of the night (Wednesday) was the live music - this acoustic duo were amazing. They are there every Wed so will certainly be back.
Jersey Shore Restaurant week dinner for two. Price value was very good. Appetizers (buratta and angry shrimp) were very good as were the main courses (scallops and Sea Bass). Portions on all were generous considering the $32 price per meal. Parking a negative, but that's Red Bank. Very nice atmosphere in the new room. A new addition was a liquor license so no more BYOB. I thought the drinks were pricy ($11 for a VO), but all in all a pleasant dinner.
I ordered the day scallops which were moist, fresh and perfectly cooked. The calamari was very good but the dipping sauce was excellent. I would recommend the Angry Shrinp which were served with spicy and zesty but not overly hot sauce. The French Onion Soup was delicious.
I've been here 3 times and each time seems to be an issue. This time the service was amateur. I had to ask multiple times for refills on drinks, for lemons, etc.
The food was good when it finally came out. They forgot 2 of the 3 ingredients in the salad I ordered and when I sent it back they never brought me another one.
I also put it was an anniversary of mine and my girlfriend's on the open table 'special occasion' section and they never brought it up. So I'm not quite sure the reason for that option to be there.
To start, a MAJOR disappointment. Checked in with the hostess and was told we had the best table in the restaurant, which was a second-floor corner booth with no atmosphere and next to a window that was covered with bird excrement. Brought our drinks to the table, so the waiter came over to let us know the specials for the evening, which to me was absolutely ridiculous being a seafood restaurant and not one appetizer special, then proceeded to let us know that they were out of grilled octopus and the grilled porterhouse (which are standard dishes on the menu) and it was 8:00 on a Saturday night. NO mention of a raw bar, or even the oyster selection of the evening which Catch/Catch19 were/are known for. So...we ordered our app's, my gf and her friend ordered the crab cake which was 80% mayonnaise and it was like eating tuna fish. Luckily I ordered the shrimp and lobster with the infamous "sinister sauce" to help feed the others. Now for dinner, (2) orders of the lamb chops both ordered medium rare, (1) pasta dish and (1) filet mignon w/bone ordered medium. Both lamb chop dinners came medium and my gf's filet came WELL down and actually GRAY in color. Sent filet back, waited an additional 20 minutes to receive another filet which came RAW, RAW like purple color raw, sent that one back. Now it's 11 pm, and my gf STILL hasn't eaten. Finally, we received her filet, which was literally sliced down the center to assure proper cooking (unprofessional chef move) but at this time, she already lost her appetite. After much disappointment, the filet was removed from the order and a free round of drinks was offered, yet NEVER received. Upon ordering a cappuccino, the waiter informed us that the machine was broken...REALLY?? My gf and I raved about this restaurant to our friends and left, embarrassed, ashamed and extremely disappointed. As beautiful as this restaurant is, kinks DEFINITELY need to be ironed out, but not sure yet if I'll return anytime soon.
