Catch New York Ratings and Reviews
This place is a must-visit! It is upstairs above Sephora and has a super comfortable chic atmosphere. The food and service were both wonderful. My husband and I shared the chicken lettuce cups, mussels and wagyu beef tacos and they were all delicious. This place is not in a crazy tourist spot, so it was a nice change from the usual crazy busy crazy loud restaurants we pick in Midtown.
Extremely disappointed about my visit at Catch. First of all, I wasn’t feeling the Melania Trump Christmas decor. I paid $140 for 3 appetizers. It was overpriced and the only good thing was the free bread that they offered. The service was great, the manager was wonderful but I felt like I was being watched by other staff memebers. (Not going to make it a “race thing”, but it could’ve been due to color and age. They definitely thought I was younger than I look). But I did not feel comfortable. Also, I requested that the desert I ordered say “Happy birthday Neeresha” (I mentioned it twice !) , and they didn’t even do that. I could’ve just went to Tao. But you live and you learn.
Had a great time and the food was fantastic. Our waiter was great and everything he recommended was really good. The drinks were really good as well. I would definitely recommend the sushi. We had two different sushi roll (can’t remember the names sorry) and they were amazing and so fresh.
Very good ambiance, with good lighting and vibe. Crowded but not uncomfortably so. Some dishes were on point (e.g., spiced cashew sweet potatoes were a tasty side), and some were very subpar (e.g., crispy chicken bao buns tastes like a dollar menu chicken sandwich that I didn't want to finish). They do mix a good Moscow Mule. Overall, pricey for what you get.
We met friends for lunch at Catch a few days ago. Food was super! We all did the prix fixe lunch for $36. It is a very good value given three courses and compared to the menu prices. We also ordered the truffle fries since they were so highly rated. Nothing disappointed, but it was a lot of food. Service was great. Lunch was served on the 4th floor which must be fun in the summer given the balcony. Catch is a bit hard to find ... above Sephora and actually the entrance is on 13 st, not Ninth Ave as its address. The entrance is highlighted by trees, lights and a sign - very pretty as are the fragrant winter decorations the through a long hall to the elevators.
We had to wait 40mins for our reserved table which was fine, it was 10pm. What I did not appreciate was how extremely rude the lady at the front desk was to me when I could not hear where she was trying to direct us, maybe I caught her at a bad/busy moment but it left me feeling irritated throughout the whole dinner. It is crazy busy and loud and I didn’t like the atmosphere, it’s too edgy for me.
Food and atmosphere was good but the lady at the front was extremely rude. We had a reservation for 8pm and said our table wasn’t ready so had to wait in the bar area where is was very crammed for 45 minutes. They didn’t even pay for the drinks we bought in the bar area. Very poorly handled. Manager didn’t have any good answers either
Great Place! Slight issue with the table but the staff fixed it quickly and happy found us a place for 8 rather then the six person table we original we’re sat at.
Enough about that the food was out of his world! Service provided by Nathan was absolutely perfect. Can say enough about the food!
All around must go!
I had gone previously with my friend for the Gilt-y brunch, and it was absolutely outstanding. Amazing food, great service. We loved it. When we went back this time, they updated the menu, and it was so obvious that they had chosen the cheapest things off the menu to offer for the Gilt brunch. There was only one thing on the menu that had seafood (an appetizer) and everything else was omelettes, sandwiches, etc. It was incredibly disappointing. I would not have gone to Catch for a chicken sandwich, or a poorly cooked omelette. The sides were soggy hash browns, and the entrees were equally disappointing.
This was my fifth time at Catch. I am tired of waiting for my reservation well beyond the scheduled time — which dawned on me - they have pulled this on me every time I go there. This time, seated finally after 1.25 hours BEYOND my reservation time. Additionally, the hostess has why more attitude than they should for $10 a hour labor.
Once seated (albeit upset by the repeated delay), I think the food has fallen off in quality. Average at best. One fish and one steak order and both were just ok.
I feel compelled to remove Catch from my list. There are too many great service restaurants in NYC to settle for this philosophy. Very disappointed
Excellent service, above average sushi executed in creative way, great ambiance and people watching. We had dinner at the restaurant followed by drinks in the upstairs lounge. Friday night DJ was outstanding and the crowd was starting to get fun a little after midnight. Always a good time even after all these years!!!
So we travel a lot and eat at a lot of amazing places, but never been to NY and I was recommended this restaurant by a friend for my husbands birthday because of the good food and after dinner night fun that apparently happens on the second floor. Unfortunately, our experience wasn’t what we were expecting... Appetizers- Sashimi Truffle was AMAZING we ordered 2, the Salmon Carpaccio was ok. Dinner - the Rack of Lamb was undercooked and not that tasty, and the Sautéed Snapper was cooked good, but lacked flavor as well. Dessert my husband wanted the pecan pot pie ... that was fantastic! We both loved it. They delivered it with 1 lit candle and I sang him happy birthday. All of that for $567 .... Afterwards we were looking forward to some more birthday celebrations upstairs, but it was closed for a private event and when I told and asked the manager for a second option of a place for us to go celebrate my husbands birthday he wouldn’t help me... :(
The lobster Mac was very disappointing. We all expected it to be better, considering the caliber of this seafood establishment. The lobster pieces were very small and few. The macaroni noodles were very hard and small. There was no cheese sauce to actually make it a better dish. Just kraft noodles with tiny lobster pieces. This disappointed me the most because I searched the menu prior to coming and that was my first pick.
