The food was a bit pricey but good. The service was probably the worst we have ever had in a restaurant. We were seated at a very small table. The waitress came right over and asked if we were ready to order. We asked for some time to read the menu. She came back within minutes and we ordered two glasses of wine, appetizer, Caesar salads and two entrees. Another woman came to our table and started to uncork a bottle of wine. Apparently she had been told that we ordered a bottle. After we got that straightened out, a basket of grilled bread was served. Two pieces were great, one was burnt black. When our appetizer was served, we were not given any plates. My husband asked for more bread and we were told it would be right out. Four requests later, we were still waiting for our bread. When it finally arrived, it had not been grilled. Our entrees were brought to the table before our salads. We asked about the salads and they apologized and said they would be right out. We had to ask four more times and they were finally brought out near the end of our meal. We were asked if we would like black pepper on the salad, we said yes, and never saw the pepper. At this point, they offered us two free glasses of wine to make up for all the errors, which we accepted. We were then asked if we would like to order dessert from the menu. When we made the reservation we said it was for a birthday, when the hostess seated us she asked if it was for a special occasion and we said it was a birthday, yet we had to tell them a third time for our complimentary dessert.
There were 4 ladies waiting on us, yet each one dropped the ball so many times it wasn’t funny. We will not be back. For those prices, there are too many good restaurants in the area that provide good food and good service.
I have be eating at Catch-Modern Seafood Cuisine for several years now and have Never been disappointed in the experience. I had a Mother Earth Beer with my half dozen oysters on the half shell, Fro Cedar Island, they were large, plump, salty and delicious. My wife enjoyed the fried calamari and Shelton Bin 17 Chardonnay the was to her liking. We were give some crayfish fritters the were wonderful. For diner I enjoyed scallops and mussels on wilted kale that was cooked to perfection. The wife had Salmon entree with potatoes and vegetables that was perfect. We brought home lots of food because we were stuffed wen finished. Can't wait till next trip ot Catch.
I had not been to The Catch in a couple years. I used to recommend it to out of town visitors. I will not be doing that. We both ordered the crab cakes - the were possibly the worst I’ve had - I swear it was like they had been cooked in advance and microwaved for serving. The sauce was tasteless. Overall it’s an ok place - the location and interior has always only been ok but the food made up for it. Maybe it was the holiday weekend crew in the kitchen. I’ll try again - in a couple years.
Overall, great experience with excellent quality. Intensive flavor. Their signature sweet potato salad was great but the spinach wasn’t as fresh as it should have been. My partner had the most amazing fresh soft shell crabs from a local purveyor. My Drunken Lobster was beautifully presented but was too sweet for my taste. Oyster appetizer was very good. Nice wine selection .Would go back again!
We had to help the hostess find our reservation on her computer screen. Meager selection of liquors and spirits. If you love all varieties of shell fish...you'll be happy...but otherwise a very limited menu. Service was slow...seemed distracted and almost inattentive although there was not (yet) a full house. Pre-meal bread (which was quite tasty) did not come out until just before the entrees arrived...which took some time. Things might have been better had we dined at the bar, but it was relatively small with all seats taken at 7:30 pm.
Weird ambiance in dining room, bar was beautiful though. We had the calamari as an appetizer and it was delicious. We had the diver scallops with mussels. The sweet potatoes and sauce we're delicious. The mussels and scallops we're cooked well but were incredibly salty. For the price, it seems to risky to go back.
Our trip to Catch-Modern Seafood Cuisine was very nice once again. We make it here at least once a month and have never been disappointed in the food or service provided. I had a cold beer with my fresh oysters on the half shell to start the meal and followed with a one and a half pound lobster tail on mashed potato puree with asparagus tips. My wife had a glass of Chardonnay with her spare ribs with shrimp topping. The meal was wonderful as usual and Keith Rhodes and his staff proved once again why they win awards.
We are new to the area and this was our first time at this restaurant. The food and service were excellent. I had never had Red Drum fish before - it was delicious, as were the diver scallops that my wife had. The wine list had some very nice selections at reasonable prices. We will be back.
After much anticipation, we finally made it to Catch for my wife's 50th birthday dinner. Aside from the obvious strip mall location which is not great, the interior was updated and pleasant. Lighting did not match the upscale environment however, and the tables were lackluster in their comfort and appearance. The couple behind us were very loud, and obviously on their first date because we could hear every word they said.
Bread was excellent, and water was good. The wine prices were ridiculous, so we chose a beer which is not what we wanted for a special occasion. Then the beer we chose was not in stock.
The food choices were limited with regards to seafood, and two of the dishes offered with fresh fish were substituted for catfish, which is a sub par fish....and not one that goes with the word 'Catch'. I ordered the soft shell crabs, which was actually only one overly battered crab loaded with salt and grease, and draped with greasy watercress. My stomach later regretted the choice.
My wife ordered the ribs, which were so spicy she could not eat them. The server, who was excellent, brought us a delicious piece of key lime pie, but alas the damage was done, and we would not go back. Quite a disappointment, and not a review I had hoped. I will mention that I have lived in NYC for 15 years, and owned a restaurant at one point in my career, so my qualifications to give this review are stout.
Being a Tuesday night the restaurant was quiet. Not sure what the noise level would be if it were packed. Service was excellent and the timing was great, never felt rushed. Get the firecracker shrimp as an appetizer. It's a signature dish and we split it for 3 people, 2 shrimp each as they are very large. The fried seafood platter is quite large but the batter is light and tasty not heavy like some friend food. The lobster dish on the menu and the lobster dish special, both were excellent and such a creative presentation. The lobster was cooked perfectly and the chef and staff did all the work for you by removing it from the shell and then placing it back on the shell for presentation purposes. Really beautifully presented. Sorry I should have taken a picture. Those two dishes were a perfect size, not an overwhelming amount of food. The desserts were big and easy to split with another person. Great dining experience and would definitely go back.
The focus at Catch is on the food, and we really appreciate that. We enjoyed the mussels and the clams to start, and the tempura lobster, which was sensational. I would return for those items alone. The staff needs more training or support, we had to ask multiple times for things, for example. The ambiance isn't the best, but again, the food is the highlight.
My husband and I ate here for our anniversary. The service was terrific and everyone was welcoming and friendly. Our waitress provided suggestions to help us make choices with the menu. She recommended the crab cakes which are definitely a must have when eating here. The dirty south oysters appetizer was also incredible. We also received some unexpected special surprises from the restaurant for our anniversary which was so thoughtful. We had an overall amazing experience eating here. We will definitely eat here again.
Catch continues to impress. The staff is friendly and responsive. The menu showcases the kitchen's knowledge and creativity with seafood and local produce. We had local littlenecks, conch fritters, soft shells with a Texas Pete alioli over okra, and red drum that was perfectly cooked. We left with the warm feeling of having eaten very well and having been taken care of by a dedicated team. We hit the Catch food truck much more often, but we were reminded of just how good the restaurant is.
First, let me say that the staff are all exceptional. Better yet are the creative and absolutely delicious dishes from chef Keith Rhodes! If you are visiting the Wilmington NC area, this is a must visit dining experience. All dishes are prepared to order, individually. Enjoy! We did again and again!
This place is a little difficult to find if you don't know the area. The decor is low key and in keeping with the beach atmosphere. The food is amazing and is more like what I would expect from a more fancy / opulent restaurant. This was truly some of the best seafood I've ever eaten. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The music was quiet, thereby allowing us to have a normal conversation without trying to compete with other diners. The wines offered are more than reasonably priced. If I lived in Wilmington, this would be one of my weekly go to places for fabulous seafood. I'm hoping to see them again very soon. Thanks for a wonderful evening. Truly five star service and food.
