Catch 35 - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Food was average at best and the presentation was non-existent. Two of the steaks in our party had to be sent back. The bartenders were a bit cranky (and understaffed for the huge bar), they made up for it by making strong drinks though.
High point was our server, he was funny, attentive and great at his job. Overall the experience did not match the price and I would be hesitant to recommend it to anyone, although it’s a good location for the theaters
We love this place. 5 of us ate here the night before the Women's march. Not only is the food consistently fabulous but the noise level makes it possible to actually talk to one another. Terrific location, stellar service and both the meat and seafood are cooked to perfection. We eat here every chance we get.
Been here 5 or 6 times -always get a seat one foot in the kitchen ( I should complain). Just my wife and I but we’re seated at a table 6 . (Strange) lots of tables for 2 I upper level.
This without a doubt the noisiest area of resturant!
Waiter taking order was very good though ! Hostess just not paying attention
My wife and I have been here several times and we are always blown away. I have entertained business clients here as well although this last visit was pure (pre concert) pleasure and a pleasure it was! My wife's Whitefish and my Haddock were superb. We both had Beet salads which were equally good. The service was perfect; always there when needed but never rushed or hovering. Live music and vocals added to the entire experience. Catch 35 is rated as three dollars signs ($$$), however, review the menu as less expensive items are available. This is a perfect, walking distance location for area theater.
Fabulous night out! The ambiance was inviting, great wine list, the seafood phenomenal, and the service impeccable! The wait staff kept our dinner at a comfortable pace but got us to the theater on time. To add to the evening, live music, subtle not too loud, perfect to dine with. Solidified my eminent return!!!!
The food was amazing, the atmosphere was wonderful, the music was really good m, however, they did not play very long and took quite a few breaks in the three hours that they were performing. I specifically chose it for the food and the live music, but the food made up for it .
We have been here before and each time we have had a great time! We have ordered from the Prix Fixe menu each time! This is perfect before the theater! This time I ordered the Mahi-Mahi which was delicious! The Haddock was great! Each time we go to a theater near there we will be at Catch 35! Carlos (our waiter) was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable of the menu!
Seafood selection was outstanding. Presentation of entree selections was appealing and enticing. The Mahi was very good with just the right amount of blackening and a very generous portion. The lentils as an accompaniment was perfect. The poke bowl was another delicious entree with a perfect amount of tuna. The seafood chowder was very tasty. Our server was helpful in explaining the dishes and in reccomending menu items. We enjoyed our dinner. Noise level was a bit high due to a large table of maybe 14 -16 seated just after us. Would have appreciated a quieter area.
First time here. Phenomenal service. John B was our server...request him. It's like a show before your theatre show. The food was amazing. Swordfish Oscar style with bernaise was delicious. Great atmosphere. Quiet but loud enough to have a conversation where everyone doesn't hear you. Easily a new favorite for seafood. Will be back.
We had not been here in about 5 years. This night we celebrated our 33rd anniversary along with the engagement of our first daughter. The service and food was magnificent!. Could not have been better. We will not wait another five years to revisit this great restaurant.
Three of us for late lunch -- three different entrees, each wonderful. Fish and chips
is outstanding... a hint of cornmeal and deep fried to perfection.
Wine selection by the glass splendid for a lunch tipple!
Music a little loud (when will Chicago learn that people want to have a conversation not a shouting match?)
Very good. My date and I enjoyed the scallops appetizer, baby lettuce salad and the lentil bean side. I had the blackened swordfish which was also tasty, however, and the only reason why the server received 4 stars, had quite a kick to it. He was very knowledgeable of everything and even recommended the swordfish, however we asked if the blackened was spicy and he said it was "just slightly spicy" It was much more than that. I still enjoyed it but too spicy usually hides a bit of the flavor and not what I expected. My date had the atlantic salmon and said it was very good. Great service and food and we will go back.
Catch 35 is a downtown gem, consistently excellent seafood. The atmosphere is elegant and quiet, but not stuffy. Conveniently located close to many Chicago hotels. We have been going there for many years, as it is close to the Goodman Theater and the other Loop theaters.
