Catas is the perfect place to come to dine and wine. The architecture of the building is inspired by the famous architect Guadi. Our cuisine is Iberian influence with modern cooking styles and touches. We also offer an extensive wine and cocktail menu.
Entrance to parking via Jackson Street.
Celebrated my cousins 45th, food and service was good. Do was great, however not our crowd.
Catas is always wonderful. The food is exquisite and the atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious. We will be back often!
Real Spanish food in A Gaudi inspired environment. Great Croquetas.
Our pre-show dinner for 8 was perfect at Catas last night. The staff was helpful, efficient, and friendly. Food was delicious and plentiful with the best sangria around. My only very small complaints are the chairs could use an update and the noise level was quite loud. Otherwise everything else was wonderful!
We went for dinner before a performance at Prudential Center.
Sangria was delicious!
Choice of four tapas were perfect!
Our waitress/server was great!
Excelent food and sangria, very good service. I will recomend it to friends and family
came here for valentine’s day and was not at all disappointed! the food is great and inexpensive. there were so many great options; we had a hard time narrowing it down! definitely a must if you’re out in the newark area!
My boyfriend and I went here on valentine's day and it was excellent. No fixed menus, or raised prices. They had great specials and the food and drinks were amazing. First time here but we will definitely be back.
Love, love, love this place and the energy!!!!!!
Great food friendly service I love Catas!
Great selection of Spanish food, all well-prepared. We brought in a crew of 9 for dinner and there wasn't a single dish that we didn't think was very tasty!
Food and service were terrific. Highly recommend
Went for a 5pm dinner before an 8pm show at the Prudential Center. Four of us shared the meat and cheese plate and a 4 person paella. The food was delicious and the timing perfect for getting to the show . Would definitely return.
My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous meal at Catas this past Saturday night. I love Spanish food and have been to Spain a number of times, so I appreciated the authentic tapas menu. I particularly liked their rendition of patatas bravas, tortilla, camarones al ajillo, croquetas de jamon, and dates. Excellent sangria (praise I don't give easily). Wonderful, wonderful service, too from the waitstaff and owners. I've been to a number of Spanish restaurants in the Ironbound and I feel this was a better value overall and the quality was high. My husband had clams on half shell and branzino and thought they were both very fresh and well prepared. Heck we even loved the truffle honeyed whipped butter that came with the hot bread. The decor is an homage to the work of Gaudi and all in all my only complaint is that this place made we want to go back to Barcelona. : ) Be sure to call for directions to the parking lot, it can be hard to find, but they have one and that's important in that area where street parking is a challenge. This was then just a 5-minute drive to NJPAC for a show. We will definitely go back as we wanted to order everything on the menu but our stomachs and wallets said otherwise.
Love the soup and the rib eye!
We celebrated my friend’s birthday. We loved the food, everything was amazing. Very tasty! Noise level was perfect & the prices were great as well. Will definitely come back! Keep that chef!
For a Sunday brunch is great with friends or love ones.... will be back again...
The service was excellent. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. The owner of the restaurant visited all the tables on a frequent basis, and was accessible and friendly. My friend and I really enjoyed our dinner -- probably due to the friendly atmosphere - and hope to go again.
Staying in Newark overnight to catch a show at the Prudential Center Arena. I found Catas on Opentable and gave it a try based on reviews and its proximity to the arena. Really wonderful experience, friendly people, great food, nice pitcher of sangria.
Made a reservation for dinner before the Eagles concert at the Prudential Center. The first thing that you notice is the unique architectural design incorporated through the establishment. We felt like we were back in Barcelona due the Antonio Gaudi inspired touches especially the custom tile bench that wraps around the entire back wall of the dining area. We were promptly seated and the service was attentive and very good. The food was excellent starting the freshly baked rolls served at the start of the meal. We had an assortment of tapas and a pitcher of the sangria. The polpo a la plancha was perfectly prepared and very tender. The empanadillas de pollo and albondigas were both also excellent as were the sautéed mushrooms. The only dish we did not finish completely was the dates stuffed with gorgonzola and wrapped in bacon. This is not to say they were not also delicious but more a matter of personal taste. We found that after two or three, the dish was a little too sweet for our preference. If we had been sharing with a larger group they would have been fine. When we were finished with our meal we still had some time so we decided to pay our bill and stop for a drink at the bar before leaving. There we met the owner Ruben and his wife Kat. They were both very outgoing and treated us as if we were regular customers even though this was our first time there. We will definitely go back again in the future especially if we are going to an event at the Rock. We wish Catas was a little closer to home so we could go there on a regular basis.
First time there prior to seeing Tony Bennett at NJPAC. What a nice surprise. Great food and service . Would return even without going to a concert and I live in Hackensack .
We went Catas before a concert at the Prudential Center. The food was excellent! Authentic Spanish tapas! The service was perfect! We enjoyed the whole evening!!
Anniversary celebration with my parents. Went for Flamenco show, which was awesome. Everything was outstanding (meal, drinks & abeyance). We will definitely be returning.
What a great find. Quite honestly all our normal Newark stops were booked before Paul Simon concert. Good thing for us. Always nervous trying new spots especially with clients. Add on 3 other groups of 10-14 plus our group of 12 and was definitely concerned about service and quality of food. Excellent tapas that had us all quite full only to head to fantastic entrees, moist crispy skinned branzino, organic chicken, half a cow ribeyes, wonderful paella all excellent. Delicious sangria and wonderful before dinner bar service. And too top it off very reasonable prices. Highly recommend!!!!!
Food was really fantastic. We got Tapas and Paella and will be back to try some more !
We went to Catas to celebrate my daughter's high school graduation, which was held in Newark. Catas was EXCELLENT from start to finish. Lovely service, fantastic food and great value!!! I will definitely go back. Don't be fooled by the modest exterior, as the inside is lovely.
Actually made reservation because first restaurant for night (pre-show) cancelled..and what a great find! Close to several venues for pre-show, nice atmosphere, great tapas menu very reasonable prices, good service. Will definitely return. Everything was great except clams casino....little disappointing, but the cheese and meat plate and wine greet.
Great experience at Catas. We were looking for a place to grab a quick dinner around our hotel and settled on this place.
We were greeted warmly upon entering and they had set aside a reserved table for us. The table was a high top and we asked if we could eat in the dining room and they graciously re-seated us.
The restaurant is about half bar and half dining area. It seems that the dining area doubles as a dance floor with TVs, neon lights, and what looks like a DJ area on a balcony. All of that was turned off during the dinner service and it was pretty quiet in the dining room area.
We ordered the hot octopus appetizer, the meatballs (albondigas), cheese plate, empanadillas de carne, and the patatas bravas. All of the food was delicious and my wife commented that the empanadillas reminded her of home made versions she had as a child in the Newark area.
We also had a bottle of wine as it was half off wine night although we probably will order again on any other night as the prices are very reasonable.
This is a really nice place we were going to a Bon Jovi concert at the Prudential Center and found this little gem very authentic food owners were super nice Definitely would return
Reasonably priced, delicious tapas and kid friendly for an early dinner. Service was friendly and prompt. Recommend the empanadas and tortilla (Spanish omelet). Cheese and meat platter was fabulous. Missed the octopus, but will try next time. Will return soon.
From the moment you drive up you are immediately transported to Spain. Then you walk inside and the colorful mosaics imitating Guadi, especially on the built in benches are simply beautiful. The tapas were to die for, the Jamon Croquettes incredibly flavorful, the tortilla espanola superb, grilled and marinateed octopus can't go wrong and the salumerie and quesos on point. We did not try the paella due to the many tapas we ordered but, we will come back to definitely try the paella. I highly reccommend this uncovered neighborhood gem.
We went here before the JT concert. The food and drinks were great. The service was a little off this night. I definitely recommend this spot for ore concert festivities.
Even though they had a game day crowd, Catas made sure our dinner was perfect for my mom’s birthday.
Great food, sangria and service - took a group here and service enjoyed the personal service, suggestions on specials and small plates to share. Parking was easy, not rushed - stayed as long as we wanted.
Always a good time. Food/Sangria are both always great. We didn’t stay to the point where the dance floor open, but we had a great time nonetheless. We also tried some new items which did not disappoint. I had a great bday celebration.
Great place for tapas and fantastic sangria! The staff was friendly & attentive and it is a very cool place with plenty of bar area seating & dining room seating with great ambiance. We over ordered on tapas and took most of our dinner home and would likely go back for more tapas & drinks.
It was my first time coming here for dinner with a friend and will definately be back. The owner and his wife were so welcoming and friendly that they went out of their way to make sure the food and drinks were on point. The only issue I had was that I recently stopped eating meat which limited me from trying some of their great dishes, but I was still able to enjoy their mushrooms and Patatas Bravas which was heavenly. Overall, I would highly recommend Catas and will be heading back soon to try their other signature dishes.
This place is absolutely great. Fun times with my girlfriends for Saturday Lunch and again for Sunday Brunch. Lisa was a very courteous and attentive waitress . She always had a smile on her face. The food and drinks were very tasty and enjoyable. A great NJ gem. Go experience for yourself..
The tapas and paella were out of this world! This was a great spot to eat at before a concert at the Prudential Center.
Thank you, Larry for giving me another spot to visit.
