Wonderful experience. The food was good and the service was great. We had not eaten at this particular restaurant at Terranea before and the waiter was just perfect in getting us a drink fast, explaining how it all works and in clean up. Food was pretty good, a few missteps but nothing major. Will come back again
This is one of my favorite places ever! If I could eat here every day I would.
Decent food but nothing spectacular. For the price not really worth it. Sushi was poor quality. Fruits were excellent.
Lovely setting on the coast. Service great. Food was disappointing. Last time we were there the food choices were spectacular. Unimpressed this time. Probably won't return for brunch.
Will never eat there on a Friday again ....
Was here for a business dinner, great food, service and view!
The food was fresh and flavorful! Service was excellent. A great experience!
Richie was awesome! The service and food were fantastic; everything we would expect of Terranea.
Noting this review is about their Sunday brunch buffet. So if you are planning to go for a different meal this may not apply.
Sunday brunch from 11:30am to 3:00pm. The cost for adults (as of August 2018) is $70 per person plus tax, gratuity not included. So assume just over $165 for a party of two, without mimosas.
The facility is beautiful and has a great view of the ocean and coast. However from the restaurant, you are looking over the pool which, on this day, was completely full with families.
The service here is hit and miss. We had 11:30 reservations, arrived at 11:35 and were asked to wait to be seated. Once inside, we found about half the inside tables empty so we were surprised by the wait. The patio tables were mostly full.
Our waiter was good and the support staff was quick to pick up empty plates and bring items requested. However when walking to get my next plate and I came across an employee, they acknowledged me but decided to walk in front of me rather than giving way to a customer. It happened three times with three different employees so I thought that was interesting.
The food was good but certainly not what I was expecting for the price. You can get more and better choices at some of the local casinos for half the cost (although those don't have ocean views and have much larger dining areas). One area I did like was the carving area which had prime rib, tri-tip, lamb, brisket and ham. Nice to see more than prime rib and ham or turkey. Although, the prime rib they had this day was smaller than the tri-tip and was too fatty to get a piece.
They have an omelette bar but the eggs Benedict was pre-made and not warm enough for my liking. I'd suggest they put some warm hollandaise sauce out there so you can warm up your selection.
I was there for my birthday and they brought a dessert at the end. Now, this is a buffet so we were stuffed. It was a nice touch having a candle in a cupcake but maybe a small gift instead of food would be nice. Enjoy!
Jacob was an attentive and thoughtful server who made sure that all of our needs, big and small, were cared for. Beginning with decanting our wine, providing plates of King Crab, and a beautiful plate of fresh berries and crime brûlée for dessert. A memorable night!
The setting of catalina kitchen can't be beat - beautiful view of the water in a tranquil setting. The waitstaff were attentive and courteous, and the food was great. I will definitely be back!
WE HAD KATHERINE AND RICHIE AS OUT WAIT STAFF......THEY MAKE THE PLACE.
We love the Friday evening seafood buffet, and recently brought two of our really good friends from out of town to enjoy it. From the expert and very engaged bartenders to the robust buffet we very much enjoyed it once again.
We love this restaurant for special occasions and everyday dining. Recommend it highly.
I was so excited to splurge on dinner with friends, only to have the worst service I’ve ever had at any restaurant. Despite making reservations and my friend being very upfront about her Celiac’s disease (dangerous gluten intolerance), it seemed like the wait staff and hostesses couldn’t seem to handle us. First we had to wander to our table behind our obviously confused hostess. Somehow I was seated under a heat lamp right next to a wide column, which was pretty disappointing because I was so excited to enjoy a nice breeze and ocean view. Then, even after informing our server of her dietary needs and specifically requesting no breadcrumbs on her food, it was delivered with them. Our family style meal was squeezed into our table, which was at this point in complete darkness since there seemed to be no other lamp near us except the heater, and we waited about five minutes for plates to actually enjoy the food until my husband got up and got plates from the salad bar. I am not a high-maintenance person, and I’ve never sent back food or asked to see a manager, but I was so close this time. At a resort where service and attention to detail seemed to match the high prices, this place turned out to be not at all worth the money. Go to the Asian place across the way - great food, great service, and they asked about any dietary needs the second we walked in the door.
We went to celebrate my birthday, hearing a lot about how great the food and ambiance. Ambiance is beautiful but it was noisy with families with their children.
There were 3 of us celebrating my birthday, but we weren’t too impressed with food.
Overall dinner was okay but not great! I’d recommend for the resort! It’s beautiful, and you feel like you’re in a far away resort!
The absolute worst service
The food was excellent and it was promptly served. We were seated outside under very well shaded are, with lush gardening and spectacular views. We very much enjoyed everything about the place. The server was very nice and attentive, but I was disappointed that he brought us the bill without even asking if we wanted dessert. Other than that minor hiccup, a very enjoyable experience, and highly recommended.
Worst experience ever at this restaurant. First off the hostess allows another party to walk straight in when they called our party which I made reservations for. Then the server brings the food out and carries the food out wrong (keep in mind I have many years in the food industry) and he spills the dressing for the calamari that shoots straight into my mother’s face. I asked for the manager and she offers us 25% off which we never even received. We were there for a birthday and the night already started off horribly and we just did not want any other issues so we just paid and left.
Amazing food options for Sunday brunch! So worth the money.
We enjoyed the seafood buffet on Friday.
Our service staff was so nice and attentive!!
Thank you very much.
We were completely underwhelmed with the new menu and remodel. The service was extremely slow and hard to find our waiter through out the evening. It was loud and filled with children. Just not the atmosphere it was prior to the remodel. I was hoping for the romantic quiet restaurant it once was with a menu that had an amazing filet & lobster. That was gone as well.
Food was ok at best (we got the medium seafood platter, and the salmon). Kids meals were fine. Was crazy to pay $300 for below-average food for a family of 5 (1 glass of wine for each adult, no desserts). Only saving grace was that our server was fantastic.
I keep giving this resort a 2nd chance and every time I am disappointed. Showing up with expectations that what they represent they provide in service will be experienced.. time and time again we are just horribly let down. The hostess at the desk was yawning.. wiping her eyes.. there were lines and absolutely no order. No management in sight and simply embarrased to take visiting clients here one more time. Too many options and this place has reduced it's value for the money.
Always a high standard!! Had great service on a busy night.
Brunch was disappointing. Food ordered of the menu looked better.
Food is slightly above average. Its a hotel so of course its overpriced.
Catalina kitchen has gone away from Sunday dinner buffet (thank goodness, it was really overpriced and random food) and now has Sunday night Family style dinner. Each week is a different theme. We enjoyed a night of Smokin BBQ. Buffet for our salad, soup, corn bread. The main course, brought to us and served family style, 3 BBQed meats, all amazing, along w mac n cheese, coleslaw, heirloom tomato salad, pitcher of lemonade, then buffet dessert. Everything was just delish. Unique tastes that complimented each other. Very fairly priced. Great update to their offerings. So glad they’ve done away with Sunday night buffet. Can’t wait to go back!
Really slow service. It took 15 minutes before anyone stopped by to take a drink order.
After appetizers, the waitress put our dirty silverware on the table for us to use during the main course. GROSS! With these prices, how difficult is it to provide clean silverware for the next course? They used to do that in the past. This issue in itself set me off on the wrong foot.
We notified them that we were celebrating a 56th wedding anniversary and a 4th wedding anniversary...and received no recognition of the special occasion at any time. That's disappointing. Why ask if you're not even going to at least say "Happy Anniversary?" I'm not looking for freebies, just recognition that we were there for a special occasion.
We also gave our parking ticket for validation at the same time when I presented my credit card for payment. I got the bill back for signature in short order, but had to ask 4 times for my validated parking ticket so I could leave. How difficult is it to process both at the same time? My tip on the credit card bill reflected my unhappiness with our service.
On the other hand, the bus boy was OUTSTANDING in providing service. I called him over just before we were leaving and gave him the majority of a separate CASH tip and told him that I wanted to specifically recognize him for his service. He's a keeper!
This place has been our tradition to celebrate anniversaries for many years, but I'm rethinking that for next year. We live nearby and frequent this place, but it seems to have gone downhill in these past months. Maybe they can't handle the summer crowd.
Nous avons déjeuné tranquillement à l’exterieur. La cuisine est simple et goûteuse.
Our server basically forgot about us as he served everyone around us. Two parties that came in with us left before we ordered. We flagged someone down to get him and then after that didn’t work we just asked the next person we saw to please take our order. We sat down at 8:30 and left after 10:30.
I was very sick after I ate the food. My dinner came out greasy (pools of oil in the bowl) and the sauce was cold-to-room temperature. It’s a bolognase, so it should have been steaming hot.
I was very sick all night long and into most of the next day. I couldn’t leave my house because I was so sick.
my husband and I celebrated our 9 year anniversary and were very impressed with the food and service! We are local from the area and had a negative experience at one of the other resort restaurants. Now we are so impressed we will be back!!!
The ambience was always nice and I loved our usual server Shin, so attentive.
Food was not as good. In fact, it’s getting boring. Something new was the fried coconut shrimp! Like the ones from Costco frozen section. Galbi was tough as usual. The white fish and salmon were good but nothing to rave about. No cooked vegetables. Snow crab was okay. Sushi rolls were plain. Spicy tuna roll, California roll, and vegetarian roll. Desserts and sorbets were okay.
Excellent food with a huge variety. The cuisine is current and a great choice for foodies. I highly recommend the Catalina Kitchen Buffets, whether it's for Sunday brunch or the Friday evening seafood buffet. Yum! 😋😋😋
The service was excellent, however the walk from the valet parking was a bit for for the elderly. I would go back but would ask for a shuttle to the front door.
Sunday “family dinner” was a disappointment. We ended up ordering from the very limited menu offered. No Caesar salad, no black mussels. Braised beef still outstanding. Price for corkage increased to $40, even more than Trump.
We sat at the table over 2 hours. Server would disappear for long periods of time and the food was thrown on the table by expeditors. It was a birthday dinner and nothing was given at end of dinner- no cake or desert with candle. Noise was made by kitchen-plates crashing and servers walking in quick paced fashion. Never again!
Our server, Stacy was excellent. Very positive and friendly personality. An asset for the restaurant. Always a beautiful setting and views.
