catalina kitchen at Terranea Resort Ratings and Reviews
Make sure you specify where you want to sit either outdoor or indoors !!!
If you want outdoors and don’t request it...it can mean a 20-30 minute wait!
We were staying at the hotel and called via hotel phone (3 times) and nobody picked up the line so I went on open table to book.
We got to the hostess desk at our reserved time and was told that we should of requested an outdoor table in advance and since I did not do this we would have to wait the 20-30 minutes in a very rude manner!
Instead, we went back to our room and ordered room service and enjoyed our view.
Just we aware of this indoor/ outdoor request!!!!
We all had the Sunday brunch with 2 of us adding on the unlimited Mimosas. Our two women servers were spectacular: wish I could remember their names. The degree of service with replacing silverware, stemware, and recognizing our 2 Birthday celebrations was phenomenal. You don’t even see this attention to detail at brunches costing over $100.00 a person.
And I haven’t even addressed the food yet. I’ve never seen this level of seafood with crab, shrimp, mussels, and sushi.
And not a fan of the sea? Well there’s Prime Rib, steak, chicken, and lots of entrees. No smorgasbord carb fillers here! And omelets made to order, waffles, crepes, etc.
And Ambiance? Well it doesn’t get much better.
I’ll be back soon. For sure!
Go-to restaurant with spectacular service at the beautiful Terranea Resort. Reception was efficient and friendly to either indoor seating in a very well-appointed, kitchen-feel dining room or outdoor seating overlooking the pool and a stunning Pacific Ocean shoreline. Catalina Kitchen has a variety of seating configurations include spaces designed for large groups and heaters and umbrellas for all day comfort of guests. The menu is a good size with a lot of creativity across drinks, appetizers, and entrees and between breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Among all the restaurants of Terranea, this is the go-to for dining from early morning to late evening—always available and always solid. The service at Catalina Kitchen is exceptional, really the shining gem of this restaurant—very proficient, professional, friendly, and attentive. My hats off to the staff! The food is very good in presentation and portions. The Spanish Eggs was a tasty tomato stew with lamb sausage and eggs. The Cast Iron Dutch Baby was a rich pancake souffle with plenty of apples and two strips of crispy bacon. The Monterrey Scramble was a trio of loaded scrambled eggs, a small salad with tangy tomatoes, and thin cut potatoes. The Pork Belly & Fig flatbread was a mix of savory flavors with a little sweet over a perfectly cooked flatbread. The Burger was juicy Kobe beef with a mix of topping flavors on a brioche bun with spiced fries. I rate the value as very good. Dress is casual. Highly recommended.
I’ve been going to Catalina Kitchen for several years now. I went with a friend and I was trying to impress her with the food. Little I knew it was going to be the opposite. Food was not to the standards of the resort. Not only that but the place was overbooked they were trying to accommodate more and more people which made it overcrowded and noisy.
I probably will go there again, I like the place.
Hopefully they will make sure the food quality improves.
Just being honest, I hope I don’t get black-listed for writing this review.
BTW, my friend who introduced me to this restaurant and his family, stoped going there for the same reason.
Service is excellent, they’re very professional and prompt. However, they need to work on their menu.
Didn't honor our 7 p.m. reservation. They tried on two occasions to seat us outside, which was extremely cold. We had to wait while they seated another party of 2 inside, who arrived much later than us.
Once we were finally seated and ordered our food, they came back to say that they ran out of the entree that my husband ordered.
They also accommodate parties of 20+ at one table, by pulling together several tables. People and kids were up and walking around the entire time, changing seats and generally very loud. The ambiance was like a children's pizza parlor. For a party that large they should have put them in a banquet room so that their other dining guests could enjoy their dinner.
Last Friday, we went with two other couples to have lunch at Catalina Kitchen, and the weather was spectacular! We walked around the resort first to take some pictures of the incredible scenery. Our lunch selections were exceptional. My husband ordered the beef dip, and I had the steak salad. Both entrees were cooked to perfection! We look forward to spending another special afternoon at Terranea.
I have been here many times but mostly for lunch. My guest from Japan/Seattle wanted to eat sea food but the choice was basically Black miso cod, Salmon or scallop. They did not like scallop, not excited about miso flavor and they were tired of eating salmon all the time in Seattle. It was kind of disappointed with the choice. But the worst part was the service. The waiter was asking the order to the same person multiple times yet skipping others. He was so confused with our order and had to come back several times, couldn't remember anything. The person who came to take the dishes never asked if it's okay, she just took our plates while we weren't watching even the food was still on the plate. And after that, he never came to ask if we want coffee of anything. When we were trying to get the bill, it took more than 25 minutes even though we were waving our hands nobody was paying attention. My husband had to get up to talk to the waiter. And the food was just so so. Disappointed and embarrassed.
We had Christmas dinner at Catalina Kitchen at Terranea; reservations were for 7:00 pm. The restaurant was busy as expected. The food was very good and the staff was excellent. Our waiter, Kevin, was the best, and tended to our every need. Thank you again, Kevin.😊
We have dined here before, and enjoyed it, and this time was just as good. I had a pork chop that was prepared perfectly, my GF had the Braised short rib. The sides and appetizer were also tasty. Our server was nice, if not a little too rushy, but otherwise it was good.
We regularly dine there and have always had an excellent experience in.
I use CK for business meals, family meals and whenever I feel like dining alone. It suits all needs and I've found fantastic service to be the normal, although we always ask for Nick. He's a star. We even called to praise his capacity.
Thanksgiving was the stark contrast to what we are used to from CK. It was rushed, then slow, a visibly overworked staff who was absent for most of the night. We heard escalated dialog between staff, there was stress and it made for a poor experience.
We had to actually have a manager finally remove our plates. We always get two bottles of wine. This time, we couldn't get a second bottle. Nobody came by. Nobody asked. We went to Admiral Risty and finished up there with desert and another bottle. We actually left early because we didn't want to be there anymore.
As a previous restaurant owner, I know a good place. CK is a good place, no doubt but your management absolutely dropped the ball on Thanksgiving. Less than prepared is being polite. Having to go without water, service and having dirty dishes pile up as we try to enjoy our meal is unacceptable.
We tipped our waiter 100 dollars, regardless because it was the holidays and that's how regulars who wish to stay regulars that are treated properly do. I'm assuming future service will demonstrate complete reciprocity.

I LOVE the TERRANEA and dining at CATALINA KITCHEN fir breakfast did not let me down. I was on a date with my husband and the ambiance was perfect. We ate outside and the beautiful flowers, freash sea air and blue sky made for a beautiful morning. Our waitress was attentive and even asked if I wanted my unfinished coffee to go. I had three good size pancakes that were delicious and covered with fresh berries. My husband had the corn beef hash with two eggs and toast. He loved it! The corn beef hash had little pieces of potatoes in it. The waitress pointed out that the jam was freshly made at the Terranea and my husband said it was delicious.
The beautiful ride up to the Terranea makes me feel like I am going on a special vacation and once I get to the grounds of the Terranea I am in a whole new world of beauty, serenity, and treated like a queen.
Our server Orlando was very attentive and helpful. His service made our experience more enjoyable.
On the other hand, our main female server was interrupted by other guests while she was taking our beverages order, and to our surprise, she walked away without excusing herself... hadn't not being by Orlando's attentive service (we called him to ask him a question and he ended up taking our order) our experience would have been much different.
