catalina kitchen at Terranea Resort
The brunch was very overpriced for what was offered and the quality was just ok. Service was excellent
Great hotel. Restaurant is good but not outstanding. The patio is lovely, the food is fine and the service was excellent
Over 60 a person for a lunch burgers and shared a dessert no alcohol....beautiful setting for sure...but give me a break.
Terrenea is such a fun and special place to have an outing! It is that specialness that’s always draws us. However, both Nelson’s and Catalina Kitchen leave us feeling disappointed with the value of food for the cost of the evening. Catalina Kitchen is wonderful for breakfast, but dinner is still disappointing. I’m sorry to say that as I want it to thrive. It’s such a special spot.
The food was excellent, service great.
On Christmas Eve of this year my family and I attended the catalina kitchen buffet. Not only were we impressed with the exquisite dishes and wonderful buffet style presentation, but the service and outdoors temperature control were absolutely outstanding. According to a valued guest at my table that evening, that was the best lobster she had ever consumed and the options for both steamed and cold snow crab legs were a pleasant surprise to my guests and I. The overall experience was a delight to the senses and truly made for a magical experience that I will not soon forget.
Went here for Sunday brunch. It’s a lovely setting andgreat views. However, the food was average. For almost $100 a person our group expected an exceptional experience. There was no options for cooked fish, not everybody loves sushi. And the meat choices were overcooked and tough. In general, our group enjoyed the ambience but no one was impressed with the food.
I have been going to Catalina kitchen brunch for few years now and quality of food has been going down every time. the servers are good but people who serve at stations are sometime hard to get. either missing form station or doing multiple jobs and if you ask for more than two things, you feel the "really man" look.
place is still nice and good views but brunch is not worth it in my opinion. I feel the difference in food quality, when I am there just for breakfast.
Everything was great. First visit.
We had a wonderful dinner - the scallops we had were perfectly done, and the chicken juicy. Very attentive service. We come back fairly often here for a nice dinner, as they never disappoint!
Very noisy!! Difficult to have conversation with others at the table. Everything a la crate, including bread with the meal.
While the food was outstanding, the service was terrible. Thank goodness for the bus-server who actually took an interest in seeing that we had some form of service. We also did not feel it was so crowded that our waiter/waitress should have been overwhelmed. Again, would recommend the food anytime. However it is always rather troubling to pay the amount of money expended and have such sub-par service.
Lovely patio with a view, excellent service, and the food was top notch. The beer list is great, with good prices ($7-10). Wine list was pricey, selection not so great. Lots of food options at various price points. My Kobe beef burger was arguably my best burger ever - rich, decadent, memorable. And $36! But it was the perfect treat on a special occasion, so that’s okay.
Delicious food and very attentive waitstaff. Great view.
I had higher expectations for food quality. Calamari was very dry and almost not edible. Green salad was also disappointing. Shrimp and steak were good. Sea bass was okay.
Thanksgiving dinner was really nice. Cold from weather but nice food and service.
Because it was Thanksgiving and a tent had been put on the back. It was very very cold. And the rain was coming through the tarp. But any other time it has been outstanding there. That’s why we went back. I think they did whatever they could to make people comfortable but then they ran out of propane. So no heaters.
Way overpriced for what it offered. We went for Thanksgiving and they tried to seat us outside while it was raining. The tent that put up was a joke, it freezing and wet. Food was good, but not worth $115 plus gratuity person.
A beautiful morning by the sea. The food and service were exceptional!
The waitress seemed to come very seldom, never had happened to me and I have been there many times since it opened. When orders were taken she skipped me every time and I was the one paying the bill. Seems odd.
Service and ambiance are excellent. Food is good. However, when you pay $75 for a seafood buffet, you would think Lobster would be included and you wouldn't have to pay extra for it.
Amazing experience at Catalina Kitchen for brunch this past Sunday. Food choices were exceptional and service by Richard was outstanding. Although the brunch is pricey at $70 and bottomless Mimosas/Bellini an additional $30, it was worth every penny!
Love, love, love Catalina Kitchen at Terranea. I am always happy to enjoy brunch here with family and friends. The food selection, the customer service, the views, and the overall experience never disappoints. I look forward to our next visit.
Thank you Terranea.
This was our second time at Catalina kitchen for lunch. Great food and good value. Very accommodating service.
Food was fantastic!!! Filet was so tender.
Food was excellent and the atmosphere was great. My chicken was cooked to perfection and the multon chocolate chip cookie was just as good. Menu selection was good and not to overwhelming.
we were not informed that the Friday night meal was a buffet. By the time we arrived it was too late to get a reservation any where close by
Nice ambiance and service would make it a good dining option
My wife and I went for our anniversary. We were seated promptly. The receptionist and server wished us a Happy Anniversary, which we appreciated. Started with soup and salad. We had the short rib and sea bass as our entree. The food was very good but the sea bass may have been a little salty. We have ordered it there before and not as salty. At the end Terranea surprised us with a complimentary dessert of lava cake for our special occasion. It was delicious. Having good food and great service, my wife and I enjoyed our special dinner. We certainly will be back.
Juan provided great service and made excellent choices for the food.
I was very disappointed in the food. Short ribs tasted like pot roast and want even hot. Sea bass was very dry. Even the Caesar salad had a watery dressing:(
Excellent service from when you drop your car off with the valet to the service at the Catalina. Staff were friendly and attentive when we sat down and never missed a beat.
Thank you for the gift certificate and we will be back very soon for another visit, bottle of wine and that really good blue cheese.
We went for their buffet brunch. View is stunning, good service. The brunch was 70.00 a person, alcohol drinks around 15.00 each. Although there was a great selection of food everything was very bland!! The only thing that was acceptable were their sushi rolls. This brunch is definitely not worth the price.
We knew what we were getting into when we reserved for a weekday lunch in a high-end beachfront resort in a high-end community, and we were not disappointed! There are lots services offered at every turn, and a corresponding lot of service providers with their hands out -- you don't come to these places if you don't expect that.
Anyway, our lunch experience was a solid four stars even though we had a two-star server -- chatty and intrusive.
The real "star" of the show was the "small seafood platter" at $54. Try it!
Our family just moved to the area and was looking forward to a nice brunch at the beautiful Terranea property. We felt that nothing was really bad, but not really that good either. Service was mediocre with waters needing refill, silverware was taken off our plates and placed back on the table rather than bringing fresh...you get the idea. Prime rib was overcooked and not the quality one expects for the $70 pp charge, the sushi was also low quality and not fresh tasting at all...everything tasted as though it had been sitting in the fridge for many hours-even the cannolo shell from the super tiny dessert selection was absolutely chewy and stale tasting. Had this not been the case, our family would be brunching here once a month or so-and be inclined to come for dinner as well since the property is beautiful and so close to home.
We Had dinner this past Saturday night, a table of 5 at 8PM. We were seated at a nice outdoor table and then waited, and waited , and waited. The restaurant was in the weeds. It was quick to see why. There was a very large group seated nearby (Over 50 guests) that completely overwhelmed the restaurant. It took over 45 minutes to get a drink and then another 15 minutes to place our order. We then waited again. At this point our server who was very nice and apologetic offered us bread and some type of soup as he could control that. We waited again for 15 minutes and the soup and bread arrived (complimentary I must add). My wife does not eat bread or chowder so she was sitting for over an hour and a half before any food came out. The food was ok but at this point we just wanted out. The server again offered apologies and brought a complimentary dessert. It was not his fault, this was a management mistake to sit a table of over 50 on a very busy Saturday night. They probably had no where else to go as the resort was busy with multiple weddings and functions. This was a classic case of a resort biting off more than they could chew. Management went for the big $$ and forgot about the resort guests.
The food was outstanding! We sat outside so it was a great atmosphere for our romantic dinner. The chef gave us free dessert for our anniversary! Try the Atlantic salmon!
Great food lovely setting. Service was wonderful. The value was good.
