Catalina Barbeque Co. & Sports Bar
We had a very pleasant evening with delicious BBQ. We each ordered the double meat plate and had plenty left to take back home with us. We were there for happy hour and the house margarita special was a good deal. Our waitress was very friendly, and we got excellent service. She checked with the chef to make sure everything I ordered was gluten free. She even pointed out that one of the three BBQ sauces that came with the meal had gluten in it and to avoid that one. The atmosphere was also pleasing. It was a long drive to get there, but we would definitely go back and probably order the same thing.
The food was OK (BBQ beef was tough but the rest of the meat was tender and tasty) but the service was not good. Our waitress was very friendly but a terrible waitress. It did not appear that she had any training as a server. There was a long time between when we ordered and when we got our food. Dirty plates were left on the table when the desert came. The whole experience was no where near Starr Pass’ usual standards.
I like the area and the view of the golf course, my family and I had and very happy fathers day. Thank you all
Great food and service!
The kids mac n cheese was in fact penne pasta with a little cheese sauce and some shredded cheese - the pasta wasn't cooked properly and was still crunchy! We sent it back and it came back slightly less crunchy but it has clearly been microwaved based on the state of the grated cheese. Our BBQ food was mediocre - beef brisket was dry, ribs were ok, chicken was good. Disappointing overall.
Location (if you sit outside) in the evening is awesome. That where it goes downhill. Ordered wings, mac n cheese, 2 meat plate (brisket and pulled pork). Dried out brisket, no flavor. (2) children plus myself.......$160.00. There is a reason it was empty on a thursday night.
Excellent service and food. The staff was very accommodating as we had originally requested a table inside but when we arrived we changed our mind and wanted to dine on the patio. They quickly cleaned a table for us and made it happen. Our waitress was extremely pleasant and attentive. Would highly recommend.
The decor is basic and the atmosphere was more of a lunch experience then a fun dinner out. The food was decent but overall there was no wow factor. The staff was friendly, however the overall experience was boring. This place is probably best for lunch.
We love Catalina Barbeque.
Great food and friendly service.
I highly recommend it.
I would not recommend to another visitor based on this visit alone. However this was our 4th visit and the others were great. They were busy but not as busy as you would expect for a Valentine's dinner so service should not have lacked.
The restaurant is located at the JW Marriott Starr Pass. Aside from the view of the golf course, it's a very cold atmosphere. They didn't put any effort into decorating. For dinner, I ordered the half smoked chicken with baked potato and added a side of coleslaw. I had specifically asked if it was prepared with BBQ sauce and was told that it was. However, when it arrived it was completely plain. The server set down the BBQ sauce for us to add ourselves. The dark meat was tender but the breast was extremely dry. It was also just room temperature. My dad's brisket was the same. We sent back our baked potatoes because they were cold. Also, the coleslaw tasted like it was originally bagged. It was gross. My son ordered bacon Mac and cheese and loved it. That was the only good dish we tried. I ordered apple cobbler to go. It was so bland and lacking in flavor. After 3 bites I ended up throwing it out. Overall, not impressed!!!
We brought out of town guests here to watch the Super Bowl game and we stayed for several hours to watch the pregame and the game till its conclusion. Our waitress was attentive to our needs and never rushed us. She was very accommodating when we requested to move our table away from a loud speaker. Nice way to watch the game.
Food was very good. Servers were very attentive.
Awesome place and excellent service! Will return for the yummy food soon!
Our wait staff, Ayla, was excellent. Food was tasty and plentiful.
Good barbecue and good service. Will go back and try it again.
Nestled on the far west side, Catalina Bar-b-que is an ideal location when you want a sit down meal without having to drive across down. Excellent meats and classic sides. Our meal was prepared exactly as requested and was enjoyed by everyone in our party.
Got to be the best brisket I’ve ever had - smoked 12-16 hours and melts in your mouth! And our server, Elvia, made us feel welcome, made great suggestions, and helped us enjoy ourselves. Thank you!
There weren't that many people there when I went. I would say the menu is basic, geared to hotel guests tastes. They have chicken fried steak on the menu..at a bbq place?. Bottom line someone got creative with the name, but its a standard hotel restaurant, just located at their golf course clubhouse.
Great but pricey barbecue!
Waitress was pleasant. Drinks and food arrived quickly.
Food excellent as always. We always partake of their bbq. The server was stiff, I was wanting a cocktail and since it was Happy Hour he insisted I had to have something on special. I did change to a beer, but I thought I was ordering what I wanted???? Rather pushy fellow.......
I went here with my family and all of the food was delicious, including the complimentary bread. Part of the reason this restaurant is such a good value is because of the huge portion sizes. Between 6 people we only ordered 3 entrees, one side dish, one appetizer, and a half salad and we were stuffed! Great comfort food in a beautiful setting.
Good food overall but slow service. Patio could have used some fly control but was more quiet than the dining room which is VERY noisy
We've eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. This time we took friends with us after a theater matinee. The service was excellent and the BBQ selections are unique and tasty. We also enjoyed the sides offered (Bourbon Corn, Coleslaw, Mac and Cheese, et. al.). The portions are generous. If it's not too hot we prefer eating outside overlooking the scenic golf course and downtown Tucson in the distance.
The food and service were decent. Not as good as the restaurants in the JW Marriott, but for a quick bite, this place isn’t bad.
Just not very good. Service was very spotty. Food below average.
Server was almost robotic....food was really poor quality..beans were like soup ..burnt ends were not true burnt ends...very disappointing
I ordered a combination plate of brisket, which was very dry, and burnt ends, which were overcooked and thick with a ridiculously sweet bbq sauce I would never have chosen. When the (tiny) baked potato is the best part of your meal, it’s time to close the book on a restaurant.
We had an awesome night at Catalina BBQ. The views were beautiful, the food was delicious, and they had lots of options to choose from. I had a green chile mac n' cheese topped with burnt ends that was amazing. Highly recommend.
Wow great BBQ! Try the burnt ends and you will not be disappointed!
A quiet Tuesday evening following the thunderstorms - sat on the beautiful patio despite the remaining puddles and admired the colors as evening fell. Service was fantastic. Sampled most of the BBQ options, sharing with my colleague. Really it was all quite tasty but the burnt-ends stole the show from everything else! Weren't overly crusty, still tender but with amazing flavor! Brisket was quite good, pulled pork pretty good. The smoked chicken was our least favorite - kind of dry. Loved the 3 BBQ sauces they bring for you, with different flavors and heats. The bourbon corn side was yummy but didn't really have any bourbon flavor profile. Beans were QUITE good. And the mescal smoky margarita rocked! I'll be back!
Very average BBQ. Smoke was barely present. Sauces were unremarkable.
Morgan was a great server.
The food was good, as usual. I had the carne asada quesadilla which was too greasy this time, but tasty. My husband had his usual pulled pork sandwich which was very good, and his buddy had a burger. The fries and cornbread and muffins were hot and delicious.
I'm really upset at the waitress we had. There was only 4 adults and one child in my party and the waitress had the nerve to add gratuity when it was not a party of 6. That is against the law to do. I had contacted the restraunt on Monday and they did nothing about it. Such a bad experience and the worst service ever. Never will I go here again
Lunch at Catalina was great and, as usual, too much food. John took great care of us and during the latter end of the meal on the patio we were visited by the local roadrunner.
My wife and I had a great meal on the patio as the sun was setting on a Tuesday. We had the Javalina Fries for an appetizer that was so large it could have easily been the whole meal! Followed by entres of burnt ends and brisket sandwich. Both were exceptional. And our wait staff was very helpful and attentive. Contrary to some other reviews I've read our experience was of a resort trying very hard to please us in every way.
The food and service were quite good. The ribs weren't 'falling off the bone', but the dry rub they used had a nice amount of spice and a good flavor. Great appetizers, and a wider variety of menu items than expected.
