Food was hit or miss. All meat was over cooked, for a large party. All veg dishes were spot on.
Second time I go there, food is tasty, service is nice , the ambiance is relaxed and not too loud.
I will come back !
I was excited to try Cata, but was let down by a few things. The lamb meatballs and lamb ribs were dry and boring. The pork belly and octopus were good, but then the alcohol options were subpar...I get that they have a robust gin and tonic menu, but only one type of tequila...seriously? The only real dining room was full so they have these rows of high top tables and stools that they use as tables as a separate dining area, but the tops slide so you have maybe two inches between you and the people next to you. I'm fine with it (#nyc), but I thought my boyfriend was going to flip a stool if he had to listen to the girl next to him ramble on about her bad day to her boyfriend.
The staff was very friendly and since some things were good on the menu, I'm not against giving it another try, but I'm not in a rush to do so, unfortunately.
A little too loud to have a conversations but an amazing rustic Spanish villa decor. Good food and wine
Fabulous. The food, wine, staff and service are all excellent. The space is pleasant with great lighting and festive but not overwhelming.
Good atmosphere, food was delicious. Will definitely be returning.
Really wonderful evening and our waitress was amazing.
Such a great place for a romantic and fun evening.
Cata is a wonderful addition to another favorite tapas place, Alta. The restaurant is the perfect mix of cozy, cute and formal enough for a date or special occasion. The servers are attentive and friendly and the food rocks. Try the bacon-wrapped dates!
Everything was great. Food awesome , service awesome, decor very nice. I'm just not the biggest fan of the little 2 person tables lined up so close to the other tables. You're pretty much sitting with the people on both sides of you. Especially if you want privacy, this place definitely isn't the place for that. However, despite this, I'd still go back Bc of the food and service...
Cata is always wonderful, but on this occasion the chef really went above and beyond to help a friend with extremely severe allergies. We were so grateful to be able to enjoy a rare meal out as a result of this care and consideration. Thank you!
Good food. But very small tables. You are literally schoulder to shoulder with the next person.
The food and the service was great, my family enjoyed the restaurant a lot, very tasty , very fresh and very unique.
Wow! Great cocktails, and the gnocchi, anchovy toast, & pancetta flatbread were outstanding. Lovely atmosphere, great service. Beware, it’s crazy expensive and because it’s all small plates it really sneaks up on you.
Great tapas and great service.
Usually packed and very noisy, but we went on Super Bowl night so it was nearly empty and quiet - which made it even more enjoyable.
Most food items were average and portions were smaller than expected. We ordered the Gambas al ajillo, truffle ham and cheese, oysters, oxtail empanadas, lamb meatballs. Nothing special, especially for the price - somewhat disappointing, but overall just OK.
Enjoyable and nice tapas! great Gin & Tonic! friendly service.
Paella was surprisingly good @ $26 for 2-a good value. Pan con tomate was the best with fresh crushed tomatoes served separately. Octopus appetizer was also good. Interesting gin & tonic menu.
Even with a reservation we waited over a half hour. They didn’t seem to know how to handle Saturday nights very long waits
Loved it. Yummy food. Great ambience and location. They were really busy that night yet the service was on point which speaks volumes on professionalism. We went with guests in town but would easily go just as a couple too. Will most definitely be back.
Manager Mike is very rude. Asked us out - a group of 10 guests - after 2 hours because he had another reservation (poor planning if you have a large group dining). And then with much attitude refused multiple cards. It’s not about the fact that the restaurant may not process multiple cards - I understand the technical constraints - but about the rough attitude with which he handled the situation. He should not be working in hospitality or client service.
We went for NYE and the food and service were incredible! Loved the jamón!
It was my second time at Cata - first time was great. This time, food and atmosphere were great - server was unfortunately not. She totally ignored our request (at the time of ordering) to space out the dishes a bit. We were on a date and dinner was our only plan for the evening, so we weren't trying to get in and out in a half hour. Within literally 5 minutes of ordering, 4 out of our 6 dishes were on the table and the other two were close behind. We either had to wolf down the food right away or eat it cold. When we asked her to slow it down, she seemed annoyed and confused. Sort of an odd experience for a place that specializes in small plates. It makes me think twice before recommending the spot to someone new.
Pricey for what it was. Service very lax and not super friendly. No tabasco sauce or cocktail sauce when requested for raw oysters. Weird. A restaurant without any hot sauce
Great food taste , excelent presentation, good ambience
Good Small plates, a bit pricey
Tapas style, most dishes were great, some were a bit off the mark. Paella was amazing! Cool decor inside
Great G&Ts ... great tapas ... great service. Thanks so much, Cata!
Great place with a good ambiance and delicious tapas. We really enjoyed our dinner here! Tables are not too close to eachother.
The food was lovely, the ambiance was fun/cozy, but the service wasn’t so great. It took a long time for our drinks to come along with our meals and checks. We also ordered oysters and Cata didn’t have cocktail sauce, horse radish, or hot sauce and for our table this was quite a disappointment.
Very slow service
Some dishes arrived after we even forgot that we ordered them .. about an hour afterwards
Very decent Spanish fusion tapas place. We had chicken croquetas, garlic herds prawn, chicken liver, stuffed squid, pancetta flatbread, pork belly and Brussels sprouts. Then finished off with duck paella, and a broccoli rabe on the side.
Everything was delicious beside broccoli rabe (too much vinegar for my taste) and pork belly (really chewy not tender).
I really like the Brussels sprouts with creme fraiche and the duck paella with foie gras, will definitely come back again!
My wife and I went to Cata for our anniversary. It's not exactly a private seating arrangement, but the service and the food make you forget about the rest of the restaurant anyway, it is fantastic! We loved every minute we were there and we plan on returning in the near future. I would definitely recommend this place to friends. Their small Paella with 3 other tapas will do as a dinner, and the tinto de verano is a must.
Everything we ordered was great! The octopus was amazing as was the fried goat cheese. We were adventurous and tried the hot Italian peppers. We were unlucky and got a really spicy one. Luckily we got this after our other plates. If you order this be careful because if you get a hot one it could ruin your appetite. My friends and I are huge spicy fans and if we had gotten this any sooner in the meal we would have not been able to have more. We did get a non spicy pepper on our plate too and it was great but it is a gamble with this dish.
Loved the decor and vibe inside the restaurant. The cocktails were very nice too!
The restaurant itself (i.e. the decor, design) is lovely. However, our table was notably disappointed with the apathetic servers and the very meagerly portioned - but not exactly cheap - tapas dishes that were brought out to us. They couldn't even locate our reservation when we arrived. I doubt I would go here again.
Visited my son and his girlfriend in New York. We decided to eat here. Great choice! The gin cocktails were delicious! We had many tapas. The stand outs were the clams, the orecchiette with rabbit sausage, the carrots, Brussel sprouts, and the ice cream sundae dessert. But, everything was great. Except the chairs are very uncomfortable! However, I would go back again in a New York minute!
lively atmosphere and excellent food, but plates are quite small and fairly expensive considering the small amount of food. you will leave hungry and your wallet, lighter. The large paella for $65 was excellent, but not much food considering the price. no pitchers of anything and no sangria, so with drinks at $15/person, it adds up.
Went here for a birthday dinner and had a blast! Portions are small, so this would be good for a date or smaller get together.
My boyfriend and I found Cata for a "birthday date" while on vacation for the weekend in NYC, and we loved it! A little pricier than we usually go, but absolutely worth it. The gin and tonics we tried (ginger and mint for myself and him, respectively) were delicious, and we loved all the food we tried. Definitely order the rabbit sausage orecchiette and the mushrooms a la plancha.
