Food was good but they were packed and It was so insanely loud that I couldn't hold a conversation with my date.
The food was absolutely amazing!!! I would definitely go back!
Woebetide you if you book this restaurant and just have a land line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Back home saw 2 attempted calls and one message to confirm Res.
Which I had done prior to travel as we wished to eat before 5.30 pm.
Hence the sarcastic 'We knew you were coming'
And given THE LOUSIEST TABLE IN THE HOUSE !
Empanadas were pretty good
Gambas had been cooked some time before and warmed- very mealy-rather nasty.
Not the poppy Carolina shrimp I can buy at my local supermarket!!!!!!!!!!!!
Branzino good but why was it sitting in a pool of spinach water.
Our server Alicia was pleasant and helpful.
After our wonderful supper at Prune the night before
This place was an utter disappointment.
We were only gone for two nights..........................................
Excellent Spanish food - well prepared, creative small plates and paella platters. Good wine list with multiple price points. Very atmospheric décor. Extensive gin & tonic menu especially fun for a group.
This place never disappoints. Great flavor, a nice variety of small to medium dishes, great for sharing, and laid back but attentive staff.
They started us off by not having half the ingredients of the drinks on the special drink menu. Embarrassing for me bc I suggested the place for girls night out.The waitress had a weird attitude. Maybe she was having a bad day. The food was way over priced for tiny portions. I understand it’s tapas, but the price didn’t make sense for the tapa portion sizing. We had to order 5 dishes to feel almost full. We spent $80 each and left unsatisfied.
The food was tasty and the atmosphere was great, but the service was terrible. Our waitress looked bored, shoved our food around the table, brought food out before our drinks, and I had to ask her and another waitress three times for a water refill before she begrudgingly came over and poured us each half a glass.
Expensive for the quality of food. Also some of the dishes are trying to be new and hip but just fall short. Aka whipped aoli is unnecessary and gross
Neighborhood gem in the Bowery... easy casual and good food great staff and
great wine choices.
We had a reservation for 6:15 and arrived promptly. Half the room has stools and half has chairs. We don't want to eat sitting on stools so asked for chairs and were told we would have to leave by 8pm. And at the time we got there the place was empty. We ordered 6 tapas and they served us so quickly that we were done by 7:15! We felt very rushed. We wont go back.
I had such a fantastic time at cata! Food, service, wine, everything was great. I’ll definitely be coming back.
Love the space, the menu is pretty vast and some dishes were great, others pretty bland. All in all kind expensive for what you get.
I don’t want to sound harsh, but this experience was quite disappointing. The service was poor - we sat for a while before our drink or food order was taken. Once we did order food, it came out extremely rushed and in a weird order (hot food before cold, mains before small plates). One of our order items was totally forgotten. Plates were cleared hurriedly and without anyone asking if we were done eating what was on them. When we finished the meal we waited for at least 30 minutes before we were able to order after dinner drinks. After finally settling up, we went to leave and had a random male waiter call after us saying we still hadn’t paid our bill, which was untrue and humiliating.
Would skip the snacks portion next time. Couple of the items were bland but the sauces were nice. Bartender was sweet but sort of distant. Flatiron steak dish was very good and the brussel sprouts are fantastic. Prefer their sister location Alta (they also have the brussel sprouts), but I would return for sure.
The place to go when gin is on your mind. Great drinks!!! Tasty tapas
Our server was so attentive and kind. The food and cocktails were outstanding. I was there for my birthday and felt so taken care. The tapas were out of this world amazing. Perfect place for a get together with friends or a date night! Will be back
We ordered 5 things.
grilled Oysters - delicious
Bacon wrapped olives & dates - delicious
Brussels Sprouts - delicious
Suckling pig - was not expecting a meatloaf based on the description. the taste was nice but the texture was really gross.
Gnocchi - had to send this back. the 'ricotta' had the taste and consistency of sour cream. the gnocchi was mushy, and the whole dish was really poor.
The first three were great, but the last two really ruined the meal for us. Disappointed that two of the larger dishes were such a disappointment.
Cata offers an intriguing, appealing choice of dishes--definitely not same old same old homogenized food one finds at many Manhattan restaurants. My friend and I sampled four dishes, and all were outstanding. The deviled egg with friend oyster was especially delectable! Our server was gracious without being intrusive. We also enjoyed the rustic decor and atmosphere. I might have wished for a lower noise level, but restaurant culture these days equates noise with a lively scene. Researching quiet eateries is on my to-do list--but until I complete that project, I'll return to Cata, noise and all.
Cannot wait to go back
What made this meal great was the service, which was outstanding.
Yummy food - happy hour is a great deal here. Gin & tonics are amazing.
Got there at 7:15 pm and the place was practically empty. By 8 pm you couldn't hear the person across from you thanks to the group of 22 year olds celebrating a birthday. The decor is charming and chic, but the acoustics in the dining room should be addressed somehow. The service was friendly but rushed, our waitress kept tripping over my friend's chair as she was running from table to table.
My friend and I split several small plates: lamb meatballs - tasty but small; fried goat cheese - SO good; bacon wrapped dates and olives - DELISH but would have rather the choice of only dates or only olives as there weren't enough of either when split; patatas bravas - simple and delicious with a super good whipped aioli; brussels sprouts - good flavor but too soupy and soggy, should have been crispy; mussels - do. not. order. they were fishy, flavorless and the broth tastes like canned tomato soup, we didnt even finish the plate; the chocolate espresso dessert was the highlight for sure! Moderately priced for tapas. With two glasses of wine each, the bill came to $128 with tax and tip.
Overall, would go back but order differently.
The food in Cata is absolutely delicious. The service was excellent maybe that time it wasn't crowded so we get most of the attention. The wash closet I find it too dark and I felt claustrophobic the moment I went in the cubicle, that's the only down side for me. It would have been nicer if there was an on the house birthday surprise for the celebrant...over all experience was excellent.
Delicious, and really nice staff. Great setting, we'll definitely go back!
It was the best tapas I have had in a while! It’s a little pricy so if you’re poor like I am, make it a special occasion
Ok nothing special mgr waited on us he was very nice
Would recommend for a drink and snack
I’ve yet to have anything there I didn’t like.
Good food and great service. For a busy night our food and drinks arrived quickly
Amazing restaurant with great food and a lovely staff!
The atmosphere here was great with very cool interior design. We sat at one of the many bar height tables and enjoyed the buzz of that part of the restaurant. Several large door panels allowed us to enjoy the beautiful night and the lighting and music we’re just right. The food was great, particularly the crispy Brussels sprouts. Yum!! And the service was very attentive and super friendly. A great date restaurant on all counts!
The food is fabulous; the metal chairs were very uncomfortable.
Food was was excellent especially the gnocchi and the octopus dishes. Our server was knowledgeable, and helpful since this was our first time and we were not familiar with menu. The meal was served at a good pace. We took our time ordering and the food was served promptly but not rushed. It is great place but tucked away around the corner of Bowery and Spring streets. We had a great table in the bar area with an open window. We would definitely go back.
My date and I had a lovely time. We had the fried goat cheese, oxtail empanadas, mussels, Brussels sprouts, gnocchi and the truffle ham and cheese. All the food was amazing except the gnocchi (tasted like they didn’t wash the dirt off the vegetables). Oxtail empanadas and mussels were delicious though - we will be coming back!!
Have booked here with large groups twice and both times it's been a wonderful experience. They have a wonderful range of small plates on the menu, some familiar favorites and some more unusual but still delicious and worth trying. Food is high quality and service is very good even for a large group. Prices are reasonable considering the quality. Much better than the average "tapas" restaurant.
Pan con tomate (good) - Burrata (Good) - Lamb Meatballs (Good) - Gambas al ajillo (Good) - Octopus (Good) - Scallops (Very Good) - Truffled Ham & Cheese (Good) - Duck Paella (Very Good) - Charcuterie (Good) - Lamb Ribs (Ok) - Berkshire Pork Belly (Very Good)
Great location on Bowery - Good for groups - Sister restaurant to Alta in Greenwich Village - Long Hightop seated tables in 1 room and Long sit down tables in the other - Also has a long bar for seating - Family Style tapas eating - Food was better than expected - The standouts were the Duck Paella and the Pork Belly - Portion size is as expected for tapas - while the Duck Paella is very large - Service was good - Food comes out quickly so be sure to ask your server to space the food out - Martini was ok, not great
Great food and service
Cata's tapas appys were our draw. The Iberico ham bread really was not authentic--I would have liked a Madrid style offering instead of the American style bread similar to a toasted cheese sandwich.
The black crab gnocchi , mini quail eggs benedict, fried goat cheese and chicken croquettes were fine. The grilled asparagus were large but tender and perfectly charred.
We did not sample any drinks or dessert.
The Neighborhood from the Grand Street approach is scetchy. Approach with friends from the north or by cab/Uber.
Absolutely loved it. The black gnocchi is a must. A huge gin and tonic menu. Cant reccomend this place enough.
Great tapas, creatively spiced and presented, plus creative gin and tonics. I'll definitely go back.
Best place! Great atmosphere. Feels like you are in Spain.
