The Forbes Four Star restaurant presents a prix fixe menu showcasing the talents of Chef Lou Rossi and his culinary team. These range from local seafood surrounding Aquidneck Island, seasonal produce, and artisanal cheeses crafted throughout the region. We hope to serve you a meal that will speak both to the nostalgia and tradition of New England cooking, while inviting you to experience something new along the way. The wine list features over 800 selections, and has been awarded the “Best of Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator for ten years running. The Dining Room at Castle Hill Inn Ratings and Reviews
We had a wonderful NYE anniversary dinner. Service was very good, as was the ambiance. The restaurant offered a special 5 course NYE tasting menu for all patrons. Veggie, branzino and beef dishes were excellent. For another dish I went the sausage route while my husband went for the lobster and shrimp, the lobster and shrimp was by far the winner, wasn't too into the sausage and lentils dish. For dessert the ice cream plate was good but the poach pear dish and cookie was just ok. Chocolates and a parting gift of jam at the end were a nice touch. Overall, a great meal and an excellent spot to celebrate a special occasion.
Atmosphere is upscale (there's a dress code), service was attentive, actually too fussy for my taste. Menu was prix fixe only, which was an unpleasant surprise. Food was French style and generally good, though the Israeli couscous that came with my swordfish entree was a bit undercooked. My main complaint is the price. Though we chose the least expensive option (three-course) and did not splurge on drinks, once you add tax, tip etc. it still came out to more than $100 per person, which is much more than what I feel the experience was worth. It would also have been nice to have more flexibility -- not all of us wanted dessert, for example, but with the prix fixe menu you don't have a choice.
Our party of 5 enjoyed a Christmas Day/eve dinner which was outstanding. Service was spot on this time around - our last visit as a couple a month or two earlier found our waiter not asking how the meals were until we were nearly done. I had questions but gave up since it took so long to check in. It was a disappointment that kept us from coming back. Decided to give it another shot since some of our family hadn't yet been to Castle Hill. Hoping any future visits will have the same fine service as this visit.
The Dining Room at Castle Hill Castle was an absolutely wonderful experience. The wait staff was not pretentious. They were attentive but not overbearing, water glasses filled when needed, all our food choices outstanding and we would order everything again. Presentation was creative. We did a prix fixed meal. The wait between the appetizer and next course was a little long. However, the wait between other courses was just right. A plus were the complimentary "cleanse the palate" and post desert of two types of home made cookies. Just before getting up from the table were were given two small boxes with more homemade deserts. This was the best overall meal we had during our week long visit in Newport. That is saying a lot because we had many very delicious meals during the week.
The food at Castle Hill Inn is simply good; well prepared, inventive and appealing both to the palate and eye.
But it is the waitstaff that excels. They are individually and collectively the best.
Their wine list is exceptional, although I found a disparity between wine by the glass and wine by the bottle. The latter seemed more reasonably priced than the individual where we had a glass of gamay for $13 from a bottle which retails (not wholesales) for $14.50. Yikes!!!
Beautiful environment, delightful ambience and a menu that invites exploration. Our group of five adults found the menu choices excellent and the great wine pairings right on the mark. The service was attentive and professional. This dinner was a celebration of an anniversary. The staff acknowledged the event and provided champagne for a toast. This small gesture was warmly received.
My special night out with my fiancee at Castle Hill was simply amazing. The service was on point, knowledgeable, and precise. The food was on the highest level of expert cuisine. Sitting in the room with a view of the ocean was just so romantic. This is easily the best place in Newport, RI.
We have dined at Castle Hill many times. The service, food and wine selections are always excellent. Definitely a place for special occasion dinners. Lunch outside in their restaurant, "The Lawn" is also a must do. They have by far the best water view in Newport.
Went for a belated wedding dinner and had made an error with the reservations. They were able to seat us anyway and were very gracious an accomodating. We had the four course selection with wine pairing. The meal and wine were excellent as was the service. Highly recommended for a special occasion.
Once again, we found ourselves at the Dining Room at Castle Hill during Newport Restaurant Week. Coming here is always a treat. The atmosphere, the view, the service, the wine are all top notch. As for the food, we are never disappointed. Castle Hill always makes the best beet salads so, of course, we were not disappointed by this one. We especially liked the smoked beets. For the main course, we both ordered the salmon with sweet potato puree. The salmon was just a touch overcooked, but delicious nonetheless. Dessert was the Olive Oil cake, which seems to be all the rage lately. This one was very light with a lovely crunchy crust. The one thing that detracted from our visit this time was the unusually high decibel level in the dining room. This was very unfortunate, as this has become a problem almost everywhere we go, but we don't usually experience that at Castle Hill. That evening, there were two very loud tables very close to us. Why must people in this lovely dining room laugh much too loudly and shout across the table at one another? There was one table, which unfortunately was right in my eyesight that offered somewhat distasteful public displays of affection! However, this will not deter us from coming back to this gem of a restaurant. We are very lucky to live to close by and be able to enjoy it all year long.
We've been to Castle Hill a few times...love the lawn in the summertime and visit for brunch often too. Dinner tonight wasn't the impeccable service we've come to expect...it wasn't bad...but we have known it to be much better. Every now and again...even great places have an off night? We couldn't figure out if our server was slow or if the kitchen was extra fast...courses seemed rushed, drinks were slow...dinner was good, but the polenta was creamy and they served it with a wide fork? It made eating it interesting...my husband's chicken was incredible...but the sirloin was very salted. Dessert was wonderful. What made it less than romantic was the drunken loud couple that were seated in the dining room, who kept loudly saying Feed Us. If this had been my first experience, I wouldn't be impressed...being fairly local and visiting a few times a year, I chalk it up to being an off night...I hope.
We loved celebrating our anniversary at Castle Hill. We first went there for brunch 2 1/2 years ago and got engaged that same day right by the light house. To spend our 1 year anniversary having dinner their was icing on the cake. Dan was knowledgeable and accommodating. The manager send us a complimentary glass of champagne and the 3 course menu with wine pairings was delicious.
Lovely dining room overlooking the water with beautiful sunsets (so we are told-it was raining when we went!). Prix fixe menu has several creative selections with seafood, meat and vegetarian options. Portions are a generous considering this is a multi-course meal; we went with three courses and I couldn't finish my dessert. Highly recommend the wine pairing option, which definitely elevated the already delicious food. Everything was flavorful and perfectly cooked and the service was top-notch. It was the perfect choice for our anniversary dinner, and we will definitely return next time we are in Newport. Worth the cost!
Choosing our favorite course among the six offered on the tasting menu befuddled us. Surely it was the tuna, but what about the pheasant or the lucious beet salad? In other words, everything delighted us, including the weird sounding but ultimately delicious desert...grape soufflé with peanut butter sauce (a riff on a PBJ sandwich).
The dinner was a memorable highlight to a birthday visit to Newport. Lest I forget, my partner and I shared a complimentary mini birthday cake (the size of a cupcake). Something bright blue with speckles cannot be that good -- but it was.
The service matched the food...simultaneously professional and caring. In short, don't miss the place.
