We had such a nice dinner on Saturday night my neighbors recommended this restaurant- many gluten free options and nice wine. Everything was delicious can’t heleive I drove by a zillion times and never went there - We will absolutely go back and I might plan my sons graduation party there next year
The service was quite attentive. The meal was delicious. I started with a special appetizer of sautéed Brussels sprouts with bacon. They were simply wonderful. They weren't bitter as some Brussels sprouts can be, and the crumbled bacon added just enough contrast. My husband ordered the mozzarella caprese with peppers, which he enjoyed. The herb-seasoned breadsticks were delicious, but the Italian bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil was only fair. I did like the pieces cheese that were served with the bread. My main dish was the chicken scarpariello—chicken with sausage, mushrooms, and thyme. It, too, was delicious, but the sausage was burnt and tough. My husband ordered off the menu: veal Milanese—thin veal cutlet with tomato sauce. It's his favorite, and he said it was wonderful. Another thing I liked was the main dishes were served with vegetables instead of the ubiquitous pasta. We don't drink, so I can't comment on the wine, and we didn't stay from dessert as I had a homemade birthday cake waiting at home for my husband. One this abhor about restaurants these days is the noise level that causes guests to shout, only adding to the noise. CASTELLO was quiet. Granted we ate early, but the noise level didn't increase as other guests arrived. Thank you CASTELLO for a lovely meal. We will dine again soon!
Excellent (table-side) Caesar Salad and wonderful Red Snapper for two. Been there before and will go again.
Castello is an awesome restaurant! Authentic Italian, right in my own front yard! We took our sister-in-law there for her birthday and she liked it very much. "Non-rushed" atmosphere, time to talk, but the service is prompt. The employees/ waiters are all very personable. Great atmosphere. The food is excellent and varied. The salmon I had was cooked to my desire - rare - yet fell off of the fish in its classic "cooked to perfection" chef's skills.
No rose for my Fiancé as advertised. No Moët champagne, none in stock. My fiancé, then ordered a Moscato and they didn’t have that either??
2 couples orders were taken before ours and we were there before them?
Then the valet gives you a ticket, so they can identify your car when you are finished with dinner. You would think, the ticket he gave me didn’t match my keys, I had to locate my keys for my car on their key board.
Will never dine here again, very disappointed especially on a night to celebrate “Valentines Day”... stay away, they seemed as though they were not prepared for the Valentines Day crowd.
Good Luck to those who may still patronize this place, I know we will not and I will not be recommending it to anyone else!
Valentine's Day dinner - crowded, but service was slow but good. Food was very good.
A bit dated...needs some comtemporary touches. Food is fine, drinks at bar fine, service very adequate.
Fantastic family run restaurant. Second time having dinner here. Great service and atmosphere and in house desserts. Will definitely return.
Food is always delicious no matter what we order. Ceasar salad prepared table side .....wait staff are very accommodating and will fix something not even on menu. Warm personable servers and wait staff....engaging and humorous.
Try it...you won't be disappointed!
This will have been my second time coming to this restaurant. My wife being Italian she loved the environment. The interior decor, the food, and the wine were on point. This place is both suitable for a mature crowd as well as a family crowd. The wait staff were very friendly and constantly visiting our table taking care of our needs and always kindly asking if we needed anything else. When I made the reservation I mentioned that this was for my wife's birthday and due to this we were given what I consider one of the "best spots" for seating. The specials were of a variety and the prices that went along with it were very reasonable as well as the menu items. All in all, if you like Italian food and want to go somewhere considered nice this is the place. Definitely a gem of Danbury.
Another visit, excellent service, food was very good. White wine selection isn't the strongest, but there are a good selection of reds. The place was pretty empty on a Wednesday night, service was very attentive. Would definitely visit again.
Had calamari appetizer &osco booco for dinner — EXCELLENT The table next to us was loud a party of 6 but it was 7:00 New Year’s Eve it should be expected when to much achohol is consumed
Castello was one of those rare choices where I asked the advice of OpenTable. Meeting friends attempting to locate a mutually distant choice but, wanting to find a rare jewel. Mission accomplished, I'd suggest to anyone the delicious dining experience was greater than my expectation as well as my guest. An outstanding menu only improved by a variety of nightly specials, insightful servers who were accommodating, knowledgeable and attentive. Please add a visit to your 2018 New Year resolutions, a true after the holidays gift to yourself, Ciao!
This is by far one of the best restaurants in the area and I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates excellent food, superior service and reasonable prices.
We had a great Christmas dinner here - it made it easier when we were struggling with being far from family! Amazing family run place with kind and warm staff! Delicious food!
Very good food and service. Went for Christmas dinner and will return again.
Excellent food. And open for Christmas!!! Friendly staff and easy to find location
Glad I read the reviews, otherwise I wouldn't have found this restaurant. Good food, good service and good value.
Really authentic and fabulous service. We will be back.
We had a great time there due to the excellent service by staff who clearly liked their work! Food was great and prepared to our instructions. We will be back!
First time here, went based on an article on local restaurant ratings. Service was top-notch. Food very good. We will definitely return.
My son brought me here for Thanksgiving and it was wonderful. The food, waitstaff and the owner himself could not have been better. I will definitely bring my husband here next time.
The perfect place for a get together with friends. Great atmosphere, service and food!
Great food and great service
very nice Italian food. great service and the tables were really spacer far from each other
The food is consistently excellent! They make a table side Caesar salad that is Amazing! All pasta and fish entrees rival any 5 star NYC restaurant. That is what we have tried. Also the desserts are homemade and authentic Italian. This is a small family business. Two brothers wait and bus the tables any time we've been there. They are so congenial, funny and polite. The service is impeccable!
The ambiance is old Italian. It could use a little updating.
Not busy. Needs Remodeling. Food very good service good but doesn't feel special. No action funny feeling to be in an almost empty large restaurant with only a few diners
Took a client group for a dinner meeting and had made a number of special requests regarding menu and room set up. Everything was handled perfectly! The staff were highly attentive without being intrusive, and the food and wine were outstanding. I will definitely be back, and I highly recommend the restaurant for personal or business dining!
We were dining late, so there was only 1other table. The food was good, and the service was great.
Their food is always fabulous. I keep ordering the branzino ( perfectly cooked and filleted at the table with expertise. The ricotta cheesecake reminds me of my mother in laws. The homemade pasta is perfect!
If you're looking for a great taste of Europe, look no further. As soon as you walk in, it feels as if you're in Italy. The ambience of the place makes you feel as if you're right at home with that wonderful, welcoming, & comforting feeling. The service and food was remarkable. I had the spaghetti alla Castello and it had the right amount of spiciness to my dish which made it very enjoyable for me. The service was excellent & efficient, we were able to enjoy our dinner comfortably & we didn't feel like we were being rushed at all. Definitely will be coming back again.
When we are back in town we love having dinner here. The staff is like family, service is wonderful and the food is absolutely amazing. Fresh and always delicious. A must visit.
The service was excellent as was the food. Tableside preparation of Caesar Salad and also tableside service of Red Snapper were phenomenal! Highly recommend to anyone who truly enjoys an outstanding meal with service to match. One of the best restaurants in the area for certain.
Amazing as always!!! Great service, authentic cuisine.
Love the food at Castello and the service is always great.
Castello is a nice place to bring a date. The service here is professional and attentive. Nobody will rush you through your meal, and if you need anything all it takes is a glance at the waiter. This is unusual in an American restaurant and seems a throwback to the old world service model. When you want the check, you need to ask.
This was my second time at Castello and the food was again fantastic. It's always a pleasure to have a caesar salad made tableside in a wooden bowl. Our server did a great job and had a good sense of humor. I had the Chicken Scarpariello and it was delicious. The homemade sausage with a hint of fennel really made the dish shine. My date had Chicken Marsala and that was tender and tasty. I almost got the Branzino again. Last time I was here I got that and it was awesome. The tableside preparation was nice with that dish. A nice wine selection brought us a bottle of Montalcino.
WE skipped appetizers to save room for homemade dessert. The creme brulee had a nice crust and the chocolate lava cake with ice cream hit the spot too.
An outstanding restaurant with a quaint ambiance. Food was spectacular and wine list was well appointed. Will definitely dine here again and would recommend it highly.
The service was awful!! I made a reservation for 2, and when we arrived, no one was at the desk to give us a table. We waited 10 minutes while 3 different waiters walked passed us and didn't help at all. I finally had to take it upon myself to ask the busboy to find us someone that could seat us. Once we finally got a table, we were given bread but no menus!!! We had to personally ask for those too, and on top of that we had to wait another 15 minutes for someone to come over and take our order. After waiting for food, they didn't clear our plates when we were finished but yet tried to rush us through eating.
Instead of serving up fake smiles and pretending new customers don't exist, they should've been concerned with giving us quality service!! The decor and ambiance was nice, but the service was BAD enough to ruin our experience. Never going back!
Family operated, food was fantastic, service exceptional, table-side food preparation a pleasure to watch. One of the best experiences we've had in quite awhile.
We have lived in the area for nearly 20 years and had not discovered this little gem. When looking for a spot for after graduation celebrations this popped up as having room for 12. We showed up with 13 and we're seated with no problem. The waitstaff really made dinner fun and engaging. Everyone's meals were excellent too many to list and the deserts fantastic. I will go back!
