Castelli's Ratings and Reviews
We were seated near the front of the restaurant. Great people watching. The garlic bread was a yummy surprise. Our server used one of those often overused expressions which annoyed me. "That's my favorite blah blah...", then said the exact same thing to my husband for a different food choice.
We had a most wonderful meal. My husband had crab legs. We both agree they were the best we had ever enjoyed. My rack of lamb was wonderful. Appetizer of fettuccine Alfredo was the best. Service was, and is always, wonderful. Our server, David, was excellent. Would recommend Castelli’s to everyone. When dining here, you must be prepared to enjoy every bite.
The restaurant was not super busy. We’ve been there many times before but for some reason, they thought it was a good idea to seat our small party next to a huge table of loud and boisterous men. We gave up trying to have any conversation midway through our meal. Very disappointing.
Haven't been for years and fantastic as I remember. Love sitting in the front. Our server David was awesome. So attentive and helped us decide what we wanted to eat. Shrimp Bruschetta, amazing; salmon special so fresh and simple, but so flavorful and just linguine bolognese was so tasty. Will be going back next trip.
The service was great. Our waiter was very personable. The food was amazing. My husbands steak was by far the best steak we’ve tasted in a long time. Great flavor, temperature and so moist. There’s a ton of flavor in their dishes. It’s fun trying to figure out what spices you can taste. We had a great 20 year anniversary there.
Very disappointed. This was our first and last visit. We had heard good things and were looking forward to dinning at this restaurant. I had their spaghetti and meat balls. Both the spaghetti and meat balls were mushy and tasteless. My wife had the beef ravioli which was also mushy and tasteless. We only eat half of our dinners. You would think that an Italian restaurant would know how to make pasta. We were so disappointed we have no intentions of ever going back.
This is the worst Italian restaurant at which I have ever eaten. To refer to it as “Italian” is a disgrace to Italy, home to some of the world’s best cuisine. I have travelled in Italy extensively and what they produce at Castelli’s is at best a poor facsimile of Italian food. The bread is horrible, our pasta was overcooked and over-salted, and the artichoke hearts were plastered with cheese and tomato sauce which took away from the natural taste of the artichoke. While our waiter was young, pleasant and particularly attentive to my water glass she didn’t know what was in the Bologna’s sauce other than “meat”. She did check on it for us and we figured out it was beef. For the prices Castelli’s charges for its food, I expect (demand) perfection and this food was far from that. The odd thing was that this resto is awarded 4 and 5 stars on all the review sites. I can only conclude that the majority of patrons who scored them anything over 2 stars have never enjoyed great Italian food, as prepared only in Italy.
It was New Years Eve and the place was packed, still had good service and was seated as soon as we arrived. People watching was outstanding, you could see that many folks had been coming to this place for a number of years. Food was good with reasonable value.
Our Dinner was excellent, Filet Minon was cooked to perfection, and Crab legs were seasoned and cooked just right! We opted for the pasta as our side dishes, and the wine was savory. Our Server, David was very attentive, and provided us with a wonderful dining experience.
We had a great time here. The bartenders were very attentive and made great drinks. The Shrimp Dijon appetizer was very good and we both enjoyed our entrees. The only thing I would recommend is to have the girls at the hostess station have a little more energy and smile when you walk in, but the owner is really warm and welcoming though.
We will definitely be back again!
Castelli's is VINTAGE! The menu is really good and everything is prepared perfectly...Not to much sauce nor garlic!!
Excellent Service as they are extremely attentive...
And, while we had made 8:15 reservations with Open Table, Castelli's took us and seated us EARLY!! When does that every happen???
Highly recommended...especially the LOBSTER RAVIOLI
We dine at Castelli's everytime we are in the Palm Desert area. It is our favorite restaurant anywhere - and we've eaten at fine restaurants in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Rome, Tuscany, Paris, and many other areas known for good food. Everything is exceptional: food, wine, ambiance, service, etc. And make sure to ask for some garlic bread; it's the best anywhere!
Castelli’s ambiance was definitely Italian! The owner was seating all the customers as he was singing along with the Frank Sinatra songs. The gentleman playing the piano was very good. The food was excellent and authentic. Being Italian this place felt like home and we will definitely be dining here on our next trip to Palm Desert!
Eaten in the bar many times and it was always fun but this time decided to sit in the dining room. The food was okay, pasta a little bland, veal a little dry but what was most disturbing was the feeling of being rushed. There is a difference from being an attentive waiter and one who just wants to turn the table over. Both of us were disappointed.
Castelli’s is an “old skool” throwback of Italian family style cuisine, from the physical layout of the place, the traditionally attired staff, and the way in which the owner-manager greets you at the door. The garlic bread, escargot, spinach salad and veal were great. If you visit during the holidays you better get a resv, because the place was packed, and a festive brand of noisy. I think they keep a table for Sinatra, Dean, and Sammy in the back....
