About Castagna Restaurant
At Castagna Restaurant we offer two options: a Chef's Tasting Menu and a 6-course Dinner Menu. This is not to be confused with Café Castagna located next door which features an a la carte bistro menu
Castagna serves as a clean, calm, modern canvas on which to showcase an artful presentation of food; a series of tastes that elevate the senses and reinterpret local cuisine. Executive Chef Justin Woodward imagines an edible landscape where diners become part of a cycle of abundance: not only tasting, but feeling, smelling, hearing, seeing, and, ultimately, understanding the food. Come enjoy this James Beard Finalist Chef and his team while they take you on an amazing journey.
Upon request, we offer vegetarian versions of either of the menus.

Castagna Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Excellent food and service. Very creative dishes and desserts. Dishes are beautifully designed and decorated, and the ingredients are very fresh. They have very fresh fishes (e.g. Unicorn fish) air delivered to PDX from the Tokyo fish market for their Fish Box sashimi dish. Dessert is top notch. If this restaurant were in San Francisco or New York City, it would have easily received 2 Michelin stars. Too bad Michelin does not come to Portland.
The biggest waste of money I've ever experienced. Some people might like quarter sized entres. And some dime sized entres. They just give it some fancy name and even fancier ingredients to make you feel special. It was an experience. But not one I ever want again. I suggest they close shop and leave town.
I'm not averse to dropping $500+ on a truly amazing dinner for two, but was not happy about the $300+ bill for this. Service was excellent; food was inventive, but unremarkable and on the skimpy side. Had to hit a food truck on the way home...
One the finest dining experiences in Portland, Castagna is know for its Chef's tasting menu experience...a fixed item, multiple, multiple course, evening long gastronomic adventure.
Much has been written about this restaurant, so I will just say that everything you may read is correct.
This is not an inexpensive outing, but one gets one pays for, and whether for a special birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion, or whether you are just looking for a really notable dining event, this is one of the top places in town to try.
One of the best meals I have ever had in my entire life. The courses were beautiful to look at, tasted amazing, and paired perfectly with the wine pairing selections. I would rank this actually 2nd only to the Roca brothers' (in Spain), which makes this my favorite restaurant in all of North America.
This is not a dinner so much as an experience. I have lived in Europe and traveled extensively and this meal ranks among the world's best. The chef is to be commended on blending interesting flavor combinations and textures while not overwhelming the more delicate flavors. The highlight, however, was the sommelier. He was by far the most knowledgeable and approachable sommelier I have ever dealt with. He took a fabulous dinner to a whole new level. If you love food and ever visit Portland, Castagna is a must. Shame on anyone who misses it!
My wife and I celebrated a Birthday/Anniversary date, and could not have been more pleased by our evening at Castagna. The food was impeccable, the paired wines were not only excellent but extremely well-chosen, and the service was a combination of personal and friendly with knowledge and professionalism combined.Highly recommended!
Easily one of the top restaurants in America (and holding the deserved title as Portland's top food experience on OpenTable). We opted for the Seasonal Tasting menu and were quite simply blown away. Small bites of awesome cuisine kept coming plate after plate covering most of the major food groups. The menu will change by the time you get here but I'm confident that Castagna will continue to be an epicure's delight.
PS--we were in town for a wine convention and were very happy to see such an interesting wine list. Not the largest by far, but somm Brent Braun has put together an awesome selection of interesting wines. We were tempted to do the Wine Pairing option but there were just too many bottles that we wanted. Prices were moderate for the quality offered. We will definitely return to Castagna!
Come hungry and thirsty. Do the full-out chef's menu with wine pairings. These folks know what they're doing! Food: depth of flavor, simplicity (smartly edited,) sometimes playful, beautiful showcasing of ingredients. Wine: smart choices, a lot of local support, excellently paired. Ambiance is classy and modern but not stuffy. All around, a stunning meal. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
We came here for our anniversary dinner. We got the $165 tasting menu with $85 wine pairing . There were 5-6 'snacks' before the main dinner tasting menu. All the dishes were inventive and delicious but the fois gras, grilled eggplant, halibut and all three desserts were the highlights for us. The wine pairings were excellent. I like how sherry, vermouth with soda, and craft cider were mixed into the pairings to break things up. Our server for the night just happened to be the wine director of restaurant, Brent. He was very knowledgeable. However, we felt the overall service was a bit impersonal. I had recently taken a few wine classes and was interested in chatting a bit more about the wine pairings, but Brent would introduce each wines and rush off. We got the feeling that he didn't want to engage with his guests. We were not asked at the start of our service how we were doing, whether we are celebrating a special event even though I had noted that when I made the reservation. So while menu and the wine pairings were technically well executed, we cannot say this was an overall exceptional experience that commanded $600 price at the end (with automatic 20% tip). Also, the restaurant bathrooms need an update and the peeling paint on the ceiling should be repaired.
Castagna will not disappoint. The tasting menu is one of the most creative in Portland. Even the pre-meal "snacks" were amazing bites exploding with flavor. Each feature on the tasting menu highlights the main ingredients and dresses them up with fresh herbs and unique accents. A great place for leisurely tasting exploration.
If you have a special occasion to celebrate and a few hundred bucks to spare (per person) then Castagna will be a real treat. The creativity of the dishes, the plating, and the taste of each precious dish will all amaze you. It's the only place in Portland the matches the exquisite cuisine of the Basque country.
My partner and I brought my Son here to celebrate his college graduation. We chose the full tasting menu with wine pairings. My tasting menu was pescatarian. It's taken me quite a while to finally write a review and it's because I'm simply at a loss for words when I try to describe how amazing our experience was. From start to finish we were treated to some of the most decadent food creations I've ever tasted. I've been to many restaurants over the years where the food is beautifully plated but taste wise doesn't live up to its beauty. Not at Castagna! Every bite tastes as good or better than it looks. The wine pairings are generous proportions and genius. Very well thought out but also very original too. I can't stop gushing over this restaurant without mentioning that the service is top-notch. Steven was fantastic, as well as all the other servers. How he remembers all the details about the food and the wine pairings I'll never know because Ive heard the Chef changes things up on a very regular basis if not nightly depending on what's fresh. I hope I've said enough to sway you into trying this restaurant out. Portland has so many places to choose from and the price point at Castagna is at the top but it's well with it for an unforgettable, unique dining experience.
Superb, creative tasting menu of meow than 20 dishes. Unforgettable experience that will stay with you forever. Celebrating our 50th Anniversary and this was a fitting experience. We took pictures of most of the servings, it will be our delight to view them as we recall the event. It is expensive, but worth every dollar. There are too many outstanding dishes. Highly recommend to make reservations early. The service is excellent, the larger chef's Tasting Menu takes over three and a half hours to enjoy with the servers explaining each dish in detail. There is a smaller Tasting Menu as well with fewer dishes...but that is a more limited exposure
Would recommend this restaurant for the finest of dining experiences. The ambience of simple elegance with a white tablecloth set the tone for the culinary treasures to follow. The "snacks" of the first course were actually 3-4 plates of delicious imaginative amuse bouche type creations. Each subsequent course was composed of numerous elements, all combining to great effect.
