Cast & Cru
We also have a small plates menu for more those with smaller appetites.
Our bar serves meticulously selected wines from the top distributors and producers from around the world, as well as fine scotches, whiskey, and craft beer.
Located in the historic Old Log Theatre on 11 1/2 acres, we host theatre patrons, destination diners, and our neighbors in the Lake Minnetonka area.
The food is always excellent! Great service and views too.
My husband and I had dinner before seeing a show at Old Log Theater - this is the obvious perfect choice, and it is awesome when the obvious choice is also excellent. I had the sea bass special - I almost licked the plate clean, and my husband was equally pleased with his walleye dish.
Hidden jewel of a restaraunt in Excelsior - highly recommend it!
I would not eat here again. The service was not good and the food was not good.
Lunch before the play. A great afternoon. Thanks
gotta go on valentines day, the deals are amazing and they always have a giant steak
When we first arrived for our reservations at Cast & Cru, the host told us they needed the table at 6:15. Needless to say, we did not feel welcomed. The starters were great the duck poppers were great and the bread was soft and delicious. From there our experience went even further downhill, we ordered the venison stroganoff and burger.
The Venison Stroganoff was soft, the manager said it was because it was spaetzle and was supposed to be softer, I have a hard time believing it is supposed to taste like overcooked pasta.
The burger came on a white hamburger bun. not a problem if I'm eating a burger from 5 guys or McDonald's for 5 dollars but not for a burger I paid 15 dollars for! I believe at that price point in Minnesota a burger should come with a brioche or kaiser bun. Second, the burger bun wasn't even warm, the fries it came with were only semi warm.
The service we received was good and the management did offer to replace our food. However, due to our host telling us we were only welcome until 6:15 we thought it best to leave. It is beyond me why this place has as many good reviews based on our experience with the food and our immediate cold welcome at the door.
We enjoyed spending Valentine's Day at Cast & Cru. Our food was delicious! My husband ordered off the main menu and I chose the special 3 course meal.
We have also enjoyed many of the Wednesday date nights! ❤️
Had a reservation, was seated at a sub-par table in a poorly lit corner away from the majority of diners, waited more than 10 minutes to be greeted by a server before deciding to leave and go somewhere else. At least 3 servers saw us, but none greeted us or let us know a server would be with us soon. Cast & Cru failed and will have a hard time getting our business in the future.
Our first time here. Wonderful food, great service and so convenient before seeing a show at Old Log Theatre. We were very pleased.
Small portions on food. Food was very good. Wine Pairings were good.
Loud people at bar. Not great for date night.
The menu was interesting and a good value. We loved the views at our window table. Pleasantly surprised
Cast & Cru has food that is worth the $$, great ambiance and knowledgeable competent servers, you will not be disappointed. Check out the great date night dinners for a truly special night out!
We chose to dine here before a show. We could not get a time close to the 7:30 show time, only 4:45 or 7:30. We assumed this was because they were busy. We called ahead to see if we could get a time closer to the shore time instead of spending 3 hours waiting. They refused. We showed up on time to an empty restaurant at 4:45. We were still the only guests an hour later. The first guests were seated right next to us in the bar. No one else was in the place. The restaurant filled up before the show but was never completely full. We had the wild rice soup and it wasn’t fully thawed. It was so large I considered not having dinner. But after an hour I had the ravioli and it was good. I ordered the Earth desert and it was average, lots of cheap ingredients, gelatin and pudding. I have to say the show was fabulous and there was a pop up bar called Love Shack that was also really fun. Go for the fun, Skip the food
Always a great evening. Food and service has always been top notch.
The fact you can eat on site before the theater is great. I was really disappointed in the carrot cake--wow---really bad (super dry like it had been in fridge for 2 weeks and the frosting was like a hard rock of lard with no flavor). The meatloaf was tasty but small portion-thinly sliced. Beet salad was a few tiny beets for $11. Was hoping they were nicer sized. I didn't say anything about the cake because we were with another person and I didn't want to make a scene. Man, they really need to check the freshness of desserts. I would do again when with elderly guest with us out of convenience, but if it is just us, I would eat elsewhere, then go to the show.
We hadn’t been to Old Log in many years and decided to have dinner at Cast and Cru before the show. It was so amazing! Really terrific food, cozy atmosphere, not too loud 😏, and the staff was great. Oh, and the chairs were very comfortable. 💪 As a foodie, I wholeheartedly endorse the restaurant and can say that we will return for dinner, even if we don’t see a show! 🙌 FYI, we had boneless beef short rib prix fixe with panna cotta. 🤤
I would go to this restaurant even if I wasn't going to a show in at the Old Log Theater. The kitchen gets it... great combinations and a very fun happy hour menu. Probably one of the best restaurants that I've been to in the Lake Minnetonka area. Highly recommended.
Delicious food! Excellent service ! which is the same experience we have had in previious
We enjoy your restaurant so much - food is always good - some things we have had are excellent!
Three out of four of us had a perfectly fine meal (steak, salmon and the meat loaf (which was on the spicy side)). One ordered the braised short rib hot dish - which is NOT recommended. We allowed 1 hr & 45 minutes before the show - which was more than ample time.
Staff was a little hurried. Brought order to wrong table. Got entree order wrong. Ravioli was not hot. Short rib hot dish was very good. Carrot cake was terrible. It was dry and the frosting texture was like fondant and it was supposed to be cream cheese. Love the old log theatre and have eaten brunch at Cast and Cru which was very good.
Food was not plentiful nor enough and we were all still hungry. A number of us had to order more food. For instance, the steak salad took up 1/2 the plate and could not be considered a entree. Even the salmon dinner portion was too small to be satisfying.
We really enjoyed the food! Service was very good, too!
Brunch was fabulous! Small portions but outstanding flavor. Service was great!
The food was very good and service excellent. I did point out to the waiter that the french fries were very greasy (thinking the kitchen should know as they were probably not cooked in hot enough oil) He replied, They are greasy because they are cooked in hot oil, I have had a lot of french fries in my days and these were very greasy. I was not able to eat them. Just thought you should know so oil could be kept at a proper temp. The burger was cooked just right and my husband thought the steak salad was very good. Carrot cake was a little dry. All in all, I would come again.
Lack of vegetarian options. Food came out quick. Service was great.
We went to the restaurant to celebrate a birthday and attend the play afterwards. Two of us ordered the walleye, and weren't very happy with it. The side dishes of overcooked chard and squash and apple just seemed a little blah, particularly considering the price of the meal. One of us told the waitress that their coffee was not very hot, so she added more coffee on top of it, which really didn't solve the problem. After awhile, the waitress finally offered to bring a whole new cup. All in all, I went away a little hungry and feeling like we paid a lot for a mediocre meal. My first time eating at Cast and Cru and probably my last time.
The food was delicious! The dishes the chef devised were outstanding.
I had the chicken sous vide and partner had the venison stroganoff. Superb. We also had the duck poppers, excellent. I love to be treated to special foods like these by a professional chef!
I would highly recommend cast and Cru restaurant for a special dining experience. The show we saw, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder was outstanding. A laugh a minute. Highly recommend?
We were attending the play in the attached theater so had dinner there. Food is delicious, although a bit expensive . Always good variety offered but not some place we would go for a casual dinner.
The food was excellent - properly prepared and served hot.. Our waiter was superb and very pleasant.
It is ridiculous to be charged $4.00 extra for asparagus and receive three spears!!
Wonderful!! The wild rice soup was incredible...
We appreciate your comments and are pleased that you enjoyed our delicious wild rice soup. Thank you for your visit and we look forward to having you return.
four of us went to dinner there together. None of us cared for the poutine much, nor did we think the Caesar salad was anything above average. That said, three out of the four of us loved our entrees. We would go again.
Food was only mediocur . Fun environment but meals did not meet our expectations.
Great place for as New Years Eve dinner, and the Bing impersonator was pretty good!
I have eaten at Cast and Cru in the past, and although the food is a little pricey, it has always been delicious. We went for New Years Eve and was very disappointed when we got there because they had three special items on the menu, and we all wanted the Sea Bass. Unfortunately they told us they were completely out of Sea Bass. That didn't leave us much choice, so we all got the prime rib, which was very good. They provided me with a salad instead of the appetizer, because I had to have gluten free. Because they were out of the sea bass, I asked /told them they should provide us with some sort of compensation. They never offered it on their own. They agreed to give each of us the shrimp/bacon skewer, I also got a complimentary glass of wine. I was disappointed with the dessert. I expected a decent portion of chocolate mousse, only to find that we got a small merangue with a dab of the mousse and something else. They never adjusted the price, even though we couldn't get the sea bass. Our waitress was very nice, and I felt badly for her, because it wasn't her fault that they ran out of food. The performer had a beautiful voice, and we enjoyed his Bing Crosby performance.
New Years dinner with Bing was a great idea, but poorly executed. Portions were very tiny, no bread or salad or any extras to go with it, and never got our free glass of champagne until we asked at the end. The singer was either very late, or it wasn’t timed well because it didn’t start until we were well done with dinner and just sitting there waiting. Would have been nice to have dinner WITH music. Lots of waiting around with fairly poor service for how many wait staff there was. We like the restaurant but this was a ‘miss’. And pricey!
It was kind of chaotic! The small plates are really small. Food was great-would order regular size next time. No lattes which was disappointing.
All in all it was an ok experience!
The food was good and decently priced. I did find the room cold (our table was next to the window).
