Overall, the food and service were great. The martini was a little too watery, and the pasta putanesca too salty (recognizing that the sauce ingredients are intrinsically salty, but there could have been more tomato in proportion to the other components). It was chilly at first (6:00 pm) but it gradually warmed up.
I haven't been to Cassidy's in a long time and am so glad I reacquainted myself! The menu was filled with flavorful options and we ended up sharing several dishes. Cassidy's is a fantastic choice for a quick dinner before an event or would be fun for happy hour, too!
We went for Portland Dining Month. The food was fantastic! Service was good, however, after ordering a glass of wine to decide if we wanted a bottle (which we did) she poured the new bottle of wine into our existing glass of wine from a previously opened bottle. It took away from the nuances of the first glass, as the bottle just opened still did not have time to breathe. That was the only negative thing about the place. The overall experience was fantastic. We will definitely be going back.
Excellent food. The chicken was succulent and tasty with a side of flavorful mashed potatoes and green beans. The short ribs were also tasty but could have been warmer. All in all a positive experience. We will return.
I had a WONDERFUL goat cheese ravioli with shaved vegetables and thoroughly enjoyed it. Quiet and great-tasting secret find!
This was the first visit for my foursome to Cassidy's and we all loved it. The menu offered lots of interesting choices and the portions were generous. I especially enjoyed my Brussels sprouts appetizer and the chicken breast with mashed potatoes and green beans. The tiramisu and creme bridle desserts we ordered were also delicious. The location is a little off the beaten path, but is worth finding.
Some of the best food I’ve had in a long time! The fried Brussels sprouts were amazing. We all cleared our plates! Great service too
Service was great, food was good no complaints. There is a off putting smell to the restaurant. Both of us caught that when we came in. I think just updating tables and chairs is only thing but overall food and service was good.
We really enjoyed our meal at Cassidy's. The only ambience negative was a foul odor. We were seated by the front window, so it may have been coming from outside. We were there for Portland Dining Month and found we had ample choices for each course. The food was delicious!
We were seated promptly and served promptly as well. The food was delicious and substantial. We enjoyed wine with our meal and it was lovely. Our server was attentive but not obtrusive. Due to the earlier dining time there were not that many others dining so it was relatively quiet which was refreshing and relaxing.
Enjoyed the meal as part of Portland Dining Month. The first two courses were very good, but the dessert was soggy (tiramisu that had been frozen & thawed & left to sit in water) service was attentive, but cook was slow. Might have been because we dined very early. I will give them a try again.
The fried brussels sprouts were oo-la-la! Very relaxed and comfortable. Waiter was great. Creme brulee was also wonderful. Corned beef was a bit tough.
We arrived early so we could enjoy cocktails and dinner before theater. Service and food were excellent. My only complaint was their menu shown on Open Table was very outdated (according to the waitress). I had seen a dish listed that made me select this restaurant only to find they no longer prepare it. That said -- we made another selection and both dishes were excellent. I would not hesitate to recommend Cassidy's to anyone.
The service was good. But the food I got for dining month didn't seem worth $33 plus tip. I got the ravioli, Brussel sprouts and tiramisu. The Brussel sprouts were really oily, there were only 4 pieces of ravioli, and the noodle was under cooked. But he tiramisu was good.
Very friendly staff, thank you!
One of the more creative menus in Portland. Continental cuisine with emphasis on nightly specials. We had the cassoulet and the short rib parpadelle on a recent winter nite. Great service in a quiet atmosphere. Great for before or after movies in the Hood.
Went to show at Crystal Ballroom. Went to Cassidy's for pre-show meal. Our server was excellent. He made great recomendations for meal choice. My wife had ravioli and I had cod with Brussel sprout-lemon flavored appitizer. Wonderful flavors and unique flavor palette. Excellent drinks, campy atmosphere. I will definitely go back.
So noisy that out table could hardly converse. Service was slow. The glass of red wind that I ordered was undrinkable and I sent it back. Food was ok but not fabulous enough to make me want to repeat the experience.
We’ve been a fan for a while now but something was different this last visit. Hair found in salad; no croutons in Caesar salad but was told there were “ shredded” croutons included?? What? Crouton dust? It was odd.cajun oysters were yummy. Tasty ribs.
We had an awesome dinner with a large group pre theatre. Everyone was happy, including the GF and Vegetarian friends. Thanks for great food and exceptional service.
I was a bit concerned when we walked in as there were so few people. Our reservations were for 7 PM. It's a limited menu but the food was good and so was the wine . The place is funky and staff was great. Our group enjoyed the quiet evening. U imagine they are really busy during games.
Fabulous food!
Many chefs over the years and always great tasting meals
Responsive staff
Love the location- great for people watching and near Portland Artist Rep Theater
This restaurant was not busy at all. We went on a Saturday night during the summer, yet we were the only ones in there for part of our meal. The lack of customers made me nervous about the quality of the food; but the meal was incredible! I ordered a baseball steak. It was delicious, and it came garnished with roasted red potatoes and grilled green beans. The presentation was much nicer than I expected given the lack of flare in the restaurant (the restaurant had a low-quality feel and look, with old tables and boring decor).
Bottom line, the food was really good!!
Had dinner before a play with friends. Service was excellent, happy hour menu was very good and at a reasonable price. Will return again.
I'd describe this place as upscale casual. We went on a Saturday night and there was only a few other people there so it was quiet. Happy hour menu was great, really good food for the price. Their beer was good also. My only complaint, and it's kind of a big one, is that as the night went on we had quite a few fruit flies buzzing around our table. By the time it became a real nuisance we were just about done so rather than find a different table we just mentioned it to our server before we left.
Engaging menu with creative combinations of foods and flavors. I had the beef/mushroom ravioli topped with arugula; it had subtle yet bright flavors and the crunch and mild bitterness of the arugula deliciously contributed to the sweet complexity of flavors.
Partner had the braised beef shank on mushroom risotto. Rich and immensely satisfying for even big appetites. Tender beef fell from the bone and melded with the creamy ravioli. So yum. Dessert was flourless hazelnut torte and homemade vanilla ice cream. Dreamy!
We had an excellent experience for a friend's birthday party. The staff was especially accommodating to our need for extra space. The food was excellent and the pricing decent. We had a brand new server, who handled our group like a pro. Kudos to her. Thank you, Cassidy's for a perfect evening
Don't let the non descript outside fool you. Cassidy's serves up some fantastic grub. Our server Jenn was great at knowing the menu and providing timely service. The cocktails are ample with some unique combinations and are very affordable. Their wine list is very local .
I had the beef short ribs which were cooked perfectly with a wonderful shroom polenta. My wife got the Halibut special. We both won the clean plate club.
We will be back for sure and they are starting a new menu and new happy hour menu change this upcoming week. With all of the entertainment venues close by, this is a great choice. Also, they have two happy hours....the late one being 10p-2a.....so that is good to know when you have out of town guests arriving late at PDX.
The food and service were excellent. The mussels were very fresh and the kale salad used local ingredients.
Good food, casual atmosphere. Service was some of the best I have had in years. Thanks 0092. Sorry thought I had your name written down, but did not.
Great price/quality with delicious food and friendly service.
This is an older restaurant so its not fancy, but the food was wonderful! We did the Portland Monthly menu and had fish and French onion soup with the cherry bread pudding for dessert. I saw people getting the mussels and pomme frites and that looked fantastic! Have to try that next. This is a nice place for good casual dining.
Cassidy's is a Portland gem. It's a fantastic location for dinner before heading to events at the Crystal Ballroom. The restaurant isn't trendy, but it is one of the rare ones that have stood the test of time and the food has always been great. The Rockfish and the kale/butternut squash salad were on the Portland Dining Month menu were wonderful. The interior is a throwback to the yesteryear of Portland. The service has always been reliable too.
We went for Portland Dining Month and our food was wonderful. We'll go again.
We went for Portland dining month. The kale salad was amazing and the short rib was "melt in your mouth!"
We stopped by before heading to our show. The waiter was very attentive and the food was a great value. My wife and I both mentioned that we would go back. We started with a kale and butternut squash salad with a preserved lemon vinaigrette, candied walnuts and feta which was very tasty. I had braised beef short rib with polenta, braised greens and pickled horseradish . The short ribs were fork tender and delicious. My wife had the rockfish with a bacon and brussels sprouts hash, lemon, thyme and butter sauce. For desert she had tart cherry bread pudding with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel sauce. I hade Crème brulée which I thoroughly enjoyed. We were both so full afterwards but, it was worth it.
We made a reservation, but when we were seated at the table, it smelled like a dead animal/fish. The smell was quite offensive to a few our of party, that we ended up leaving before ordering.
Less than memorable meal in a quiet, unpopulated old restaurant. Had higher expectations for a place that has survived the Portland scene for so many years but overall ok food, limited ambiance and overall little value
The service was excellent. The waitress was fast and efficient. Bob Cassidy himself came out to greet us and chat for a it. It felt like a very comfortable yet classy dine. The food was also delicious. I ordered the steak and it was perfectly cooked. My date ordered the rockfish and she was very impressed. I would definitely come here again. The prices are steep, but the quality food and quality experience are worth it.
Hadn't been in a while and can't remember why. We really enjoyed our meal and our the great wait staff. Will go back and recommend you reintroduce yourself to this Portland gem if you haven't been in a while.
