Casper Fry Ratings and Reviews
Wife and I needed a night out together. We love Casper Fry, so grabbed a well aged Zin and headed there ( corkage just $10). Menu has been redone since last visit, but "low country shrimp and grits " the signature dish is still there and wife had it and loved it. A new item, "meatloaf with demiglaze" was my choice. This is one amazingly delicious meatloaf and served with brocolini and potatoe mash. This will be something I order again. As always great friendly and attentive service.
They were having some issues with my open table reservation, but it was cleared up quickly and we were seated. The service and food were terrific. My wife and I are still talking about the food and recommended it to other. Looking forward to going back again.....like next weekend. lol.
The whole place is on point! My wife and my have been there multiple times with the grown kids, the one living at home, and family friends and quite frankly it is one of my favorites! I grew up in the south and this is great southern food with helping of new age bistro. There is so much respect for the ingredients and the way the meals are available to you. House made sausage with red beans and rice was like riding a roller coaster for the first time. I was afraid to try it for the spice level and a comparison to my aunt Lela from Kentucky! My wife's brined pork chop was skillfully cooked, which is hard to do but in and of itself, tender, savory and warm blanket level! Both meals were perfectly prepared and we knew exactly what we were getting!
The service was not exceptional as well. Witty and genuine! That's a very hard combination when dealing with the general public. It was good enough for me on a bad day and that says a lot! Thank you for that. Service that is really good makes an exceptional meal well, better than exceptional!
If you have not been here, GO. Now! If you have been before go again! Now!
Threw my niece's college graduation lunch here. It was a super big disappointment from not getting seated for about ten minutes, even though the restaurant was not full to waiting over an hour for our food. I thought that since the wait for the food was tremendous that surely the food would make up for it. The food was the worst part of the whole experience. Almost every single member in our group complained about the food. Six of us ordered the brisket and grits. The brisket was barely edible, as it was way over cooked and full of gristle. The frittata was bland. The only dish that was worth me thing was the shrimp po boy. I didn't want to make a big deal out of this whole experience because we were celebrating my niece's graduation, and I didn't want this experience to overshadow her celebration. I would not recommend this restaurant at all.
Took my wife to Caspers for a date and try something different. The Perry district is a gem and Caspers fits right in. We sat outside and the Pub next door had live acoustic music which made our dinner even more enjoyable. The Pork Belly appetizer was delicious, and the entrees were good (not great). The real highlight is the neighborhood vibe and friendly service
We ordered the pork belly and fritters as our appetizers and both were delicious. The pork belly came with two sauces, one a garlic aioli type and the 2nd a BBQ. Both were fantastic. It also had a side salad with a wonderfully tart dressing. The fritters were very flavorful and moist with just a slight bit of heart.
Our dinner entrees were hit and miss. The sweet and sour shrimp were very tasty and the sauce had some heat but not over the top and complimented the sweetness very well. We also had the scallops, which were ok but nothing special. We're accustomed to regularly eating fresh seafood so they were a bit disappointing while being pretty pricey at $28, which was substantially more than the other entrees offered. The last entree ordered was the fried chicken. It started out well, with the outer coating being fried to perfection but the meat inside was markedly undercooked. I sent it back and they were very apologetic and brought me 2nd plate with an Wakame from the cook that our should be better. First glance told me it had been way overcooked, with parts of the breading almost black. I cut into it and the same issue existed with the meat being very undercooked. I brought it to their attention and told them I did not want to try a 3rd time as it clearly want working. The waitress was again very apologetic and came back a short time later and explained that they were having an issue with the special oven they used, tailoring in Betty uneven coming and actually had a new one on order
First time to Casper Fry and it was amazing. It was a girl's day and it was the perfect setting. A lot of natural light and open space. Our server was friendly and funny. The food and drinks were amazing; I had an Old Fashioned to drink and the shrimp with grits to eat. The table shared the ham plate as an appetizer. The portions are smaller, so if you love to eat, like I do, order a bigger meal. I will definitely go back!
Food was hit and miss. Friend chicken biscuit was good, but the potatoes were undercooked. Cinnamon swirl French toast was great. Maple bacon was good. Scrambled eggs and grits were salty and bland with way too much paprika. We ordered two Mimosas and one coffee, and the waiter forgot one mimosa and the coffee. 1 for 3. The second mimosa looked nothing like the first, and the glass was sticky. Waiter also forgot two orders of toast until we were almost ready for the check. I think he was hungover - he was joking with another server about walking around in a daze.
I love southern food, so was very excited to try Casper Fry, but left pretty disappointed. After tip we spent almost $100 for two adults and three kids.
We sat on the patio, which was nice, but the dumpster is very close and you can smell it when the wind breeze heads your direction.
This is a fun restaurant with a creative menu. The trout hash had a great combination of flavors and the ingredients tasted farm fresh. They have a delicious Bloody Mary that has the perfect kick. The server was helpful, friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back
Casper Fry, as usual, greeted us as soon as we entered, took us to our reserved table and brought out their normal glasses and bottle of water for the table. The waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. As we were worried about gluten for one of us, he knew exactly which menu items did and did not contain gluten. He was also very accommodating when asking what the top picks on the menu had been lately and his favorites. Overall it was another great dinner at this establishment. I highly recommend them, and always look forward to going there no matter what meal it is for.
I enjoyed every bit of time we spent at Casper Fry. Our server was phenomenal, he helped us with a selection of whiskey tasting as well as spoke honestly and highly about all the dishes on the menu. I will definitely be back to try more of the amazing selection on the menu.
Have heard great things about Casper Fry so we made a reservation for V-day. Despite the fact that the restaurant was full there was no line. They have a good handle on their reservations. The hostess and our server were kind of bland and detached but it really didn't impact much because once the food came out we were loving life! Had the ham board to start (scrumptious) and the shrimp & grits for me and flank steak for the hubs. Absolutely delicious! Cleaned our plates and left very satisfied! The atmosphere is cool but not so cool that a 40ish couple felt out of place. We will be back!
This was our third visit to Casper Fry. The first two visits caused us to return for good and unique food, with several out-of-town guests. However, this third experience has left us wondering if we will be back. The server was good and attentive, but the overall service was extraordinarily slow. We waited at least an hour for our meals (in fact, after about 45 minutes, the server informed one of our guests that their choice was not available). When we did received our food, the portions were very small - definitely downsized from our previous experiences. The food was good, but everyone at our table left there hungry, and questioning the price we paid. Overall, we felt rather cheated.
Seated immediately, and they opened my wine and brought glasses (corkage $15). Menu has been updated, but of course "Low country Shrimp and Grits" remains and is the thing one should order on their first visit. Now, I truely love, love, love the aroma of Duck. When I open up a package at home to prepare it I just inhale deeply. This generous leg and thigh cooked Confit is tender, and it has promenant duck aroma. If you love duck in this way, then you must forget my first ordering instruction, and GET THE DUCK. Service here is friendly, professional, and prompt. whats not to like.
Expect great food with a good amount of Southern spice. The jambalaya was too firey for one of our guests--made him sweat--but he liked it nonetheless. The grits with shrimp will not disappoint--lots of shrimp and vegetables on a bed of cheddar grits. Don't miss the sweet & spicey shrimp as an appetizer or a main entrée. Casper Fryes knows how to cook fish so the salmon is also a treat. Fun environment with very good food.
Could barely stand waiting, arrived hungry and seated promptly. Just took a little longer than comfortable between appetizer and entrée. For those of us over 50, a comfortable chair would bring me back a lot more. The food was so amazing I can overlook my discomfort and definitely come back, a lot!!
Casper Fry was well recommended, but overall we were disappointed. We arrived at the time of our reservation and we were promptly seated a long table shared by three different groups. A bit noisy, but not to bad, but there was not a lot of privacy in our conversation. Once we sat, it was a while before anyone asked us for a drink or took our order. When we ordered our drinks it took nearly 20 min for the drinks to arrive, this also happened again on our second round of drinks and we had to inquire as to time of our drinks after 25 min. We only ordered our drinks when we requested to order. Our waitress never asked us if we wanted another round, and was not very attentive. The food was excellent, but the delivery of the food was very slow. This was surprising as it was a Friday night and it was only 80% full. Casper Fry has strong potential, but the slow and unattentive service needs to be resolved or it will be the death nail to their future.
For the price, I would have thought my shellfish would be cooked thoroughly and my shrimp not over done. Also, jambalaya is a broth based plate. Dry Spanish rice with poorly cooked seafood is NOT jambalaya!
The authenticity of their cocktails is awesome.
Service was good too.
Open atmosphere was cool, but I could tell both couples next to us weren't into it.
We went for dinner but left after 30 minutes. Our server took our drink order and never returned. When I talked with the manager on our way out I received excuses, but no apology. All I needed was empathy and regret but I received a negative attitude instead. After hearing a story from a friend that was even worse I certainly won't return.
