Expected a higher quality food given that it's a teaching college trying to impress upon its students the importance of raw materials. Food seemed to be prepared well in advance and either brought to room temperature or thawed for serving.
We had a wonderful server who asked the chef about mushrooms in the dishes we ordered since companion was allergic. He made sure there were none in the dishes she ordered. He was not hovering, but made sure we had what we needed and was very curteous and professional. He will do well in this. We found out there were several students that didn’t show up that night, but we would have never known this unless we were told.
The Beef Burgundy was a bit fatty and the crepes were gone, but dinner was very good.
Very hard to get reservations on Open Table. I liked calling in much better. There must be a trick to it I’m not aware of.
The Casola Dining Room is a hidden gem of Schenectady. Outstanding food, service, price - wonderful for lunch friends. Haven't tried the dinners or buffets yet.
Students showed they were well trained. Ambiance in dining room was excellent. Staff seemed to be working very well individually and as a team. Tasty food nicely presented and served; just the right attention from wait staff. Well done!
Our waitstaff person Diana was excellent. Very professional and accommodating. The entree and appetizer I had was excellent. My guest felt the entree portion was on the small side but it was delicious. We both enjoyed the fabulous Chocolate cake for dessert.
Overall it was a lovely evening and can't wait to go again. I would highly recommend to family and friends.
Always satisfied with the meals at SCCC. Interesting being in a classroom/dining room atmosphere. Glad I'm able to participate.
It's wonderful to be a part of the Culinary Program that is offered at SCCC. The students that serve us are learning all aspects of the restaurant business. Great meals.
Lunch was wonderful. First time for my three friends- they all want to return again soon. Great service. Wonderful resource for the community.
I have been dining at Casola Dining for several years. It is always a great dining experience and very much enjoy the "ethnic themed" meals. The food is always well prepared, well presented and a very classy atmosphere with linen tablecloths and napkins as an added bonus. Thank you to all of the food preparation folks, serves, supervisors and everyone who is instrumental in making this culinary dining experience absolutely perfect. Sincerely, Jean Burke

++ great value. students are enthusiastic. they did very well for the start of the semester. we definitely will be back.
--room is always cold. wish they would tweek the menus a bit. we do understand the need for consistency.
the server was only a student but very good. I however do not recall his name. I believe it was Tyler.
We keep coming back. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. The meals are excellent with perfect portions. The friends we've brought are always impressed.
Very nice! Portions a bit small. Good value. Confused as to why there was no steak on the menu. The cuisine was mid west! When I think of KC I think of beef, not salmon or rigatoni. With that being said the experience was terrific and tasty.
The food was very tasty but just Luke warm. Disappointed in that. Coffee was also not hot at all. Soup was delicious and just warm enough, but the rest of the meal was not at all hot enough to serve. Have to wonder how long it was sitting there before our table was served. Server was very good.
Food was really good and different from what I normally eat.
The students do a great job cooking, serving, hosting.
Exceptional service and food. The students are well trained and well prepared.
Our waiter Tyler was terrific and the food was wonderful. Our compliments to all the chefs and the instructors who teach them.
The luncheon menu was outstanding.... a very delicious three course meal for an inexpensive price. We enjoy going with friends and just wish we could go more often. Sometimes it might be nice to have 8 people at a table, rather than just 6 .
The service was excellent and the food was prepared to our liking ... what more could we ask?
Some of our friends object to the two week previous reservation requirement, but I found doing the reservation on the computer quite easy.
I've been to the Casola Dining room twice this year. Each time I've been impressed with menu variety, the preparation, and the service. Great food and great value. I'll be back soon.
Excellent experience. Fish was slightly overcooked.
Unfortunately, the food was cold, as well as the coffee after dinner.
We had a delicious lunch and were not rushed at all. Servers were attentive without being annoying. The students did a great job. I’m not fond of corn muffins but these were delicious.
Will be going to dinner there soon.
Great value. Interesting to participate in the different themes they present
This is a great way to support the culinary arts students of SCCC while enjoying a pleasurable evening dining out with friends. The food and the preparation are excellent, the price is extremely reasonable, and it's fun to interact with the waiters and waitresses.... and learn about their goals in the food service industry. This is an inexpensive night out during the week. You won't be sorry you made reservations here!
This is the only time we have been disappointed when eating at Casola over many years. These students did not appear trained: referred to us as “you guys” as we heard at other tables, could not pronounce food or describe it, could not open wine bottle, served and removed from left and right without thought, and we must have had our water glass filled 50 times. Our experience and understanding has been that students are trained to do things the correct way for the industry, reaching a high standard. At this dinner, this was not true. We have been very pleased every other time we’ve dined here.
SCCC culinary school has fantastic meals and it's a lot of fun dealing with the students. We've been regulars for almost ten years now. Best deal in town.
As always, a tasty lunch in a very pleasing setting - and for a great price. In recognition of a friend's recent retirement, my husband and I treated her and husband to lunch.
Excellent opportunity to try regional food options professionally prepared and serviced by students!
Open Table web site does not work for this restaurant very good. :( Tried to contact someone, anyone at open table and only contact available is email which looks like automatic response. Very poor service. Can't wait till next year when SCCC will no longer be using this website for reservations.
As we have found in the past, the temperature of the food needs to be worked on. In this
Instance, the appetizers, both soup and pasta were barely warm.
The food, as always was fabulous! I have a bike-hike group (SOS Outdoorsie group ... largely older singles) that we attempt to get together at the Casola after a bike-hike meeting, and it is always well attended, and the group loves it! The only down-side is trying to get reservations for 12 people. I'd like to choose a date and call someone several months in advance. This time, try as we might, we were only able to get seating for eight. We left a few people very disappointed, and I hate to do that!
As always, a visit to the Casola Ding Room is a treat! Great job!
Everything about the experience was mostly lovely. Our waiter however seemed seriously inexperienced. He did not introduce himself, seemed awkward, needed to learn more waiter/table etiquette, ie.taking plates away without asking if we were finished or saying anything, not very friendly, not chatty. That put a negative spin on our first experience. Food was very good but the bread was too salty. We had to ask to have our bottle of wine opened. The gentleman handling the wine that evening was charming. We would try it again definitely.
Excellent lunch and professional service provided by our most pleasant student server, Johnathan. Hopefully we will have success with booking another (lunch) reservation at his table before the Spring session ends.
Our server (Michelle) was very cordial and knowledgeable with questions we had asked.
The floor manager (Devon) was extremely personable coming by each table to meet and greet us and to ask us if we were enjoying our meal.
All in all it was a very enjoyable luncheon at the Casola Dining Room on 3/10/17 - 12:30 pm seating. Thank You.
Can't have extremely high expectations, as these are students, but the food is enjoyable and ambiance good. Our server seemed a little unknowledgeable about the entrees but that wasn't a huge deal. Looking forward to returning.
Food in the French style was very good; our server, Gabriel, was very good and quite attentive, despite being a freshman in the culinary arts program.
THis was our third visit and we had a very nice meal. Service was friendly, room was clean and comfortable and the food was very good. Dessert was very nice this time and our server, Glo, was really friendly and hard working.
Dining at Casola Dining Room at Schenectady County Community College is always a pleasure if you're lucky enough to get a reservation. It is all run as part of the culinary program at SCCC so don't expect perfection, but the students are very good at what they do, are eager to please and enthusiastic. My friends, family and I have been dining here for years. The biggest hassle is getting a reservation, which needs to be made 2 weeks in advance to the day you desire. Lunch served two days a week, Tues and Thurs, at two limited seatings, Noon and 12:30 PM. Dinner is served Mon and Wed at 7:00 and 7:30 PM. The dining room is higher end (linen tablecloths and napkins), with a quiet relaxing ambiance and student art work adorning the walls. The menu varies each week depending on the curriculum, fall semester is regional American and spring semester is International. Three courses of delicious, well presented food, multiple options for each course, including vegetarian in a great dining room, all for $16.00 all inclusive, ($22.00 for dinner).
We went for the Brazil Menu and it was excellent. This is not our first visit and we find the lunch dining a great value as the portions are the same as dinner but $6 less. I had the potato chicken croquettes and my wife the brazilian salad and both were very good. I ordered the chile and cumin marinated hanger steak which was out of this world like a 5 star quality restaurant. Perfectly cooked. Our waiter Abby did an excellent service at our table, she was very friendly and efficient.
Brazil was fantastic food was absolutely amazing! I try to make it here once a week to try all the food its so good! great deal!
