Casola Dining Room - Schenectady County Community College Ratings and Reviews
The food was very tasty but just Luke warm. Disappointed in that. Coffee was also not hot at all. Soup was delicious and just warm enough, but the rest of the meal was not at all hot enough to serve. Have to wonder how long it was sitting there before our table was served. Server was very good.
The luncheon menu was outstanding.... a very delicious three course meal for an inexpensive price. We enjoy going with friends and just wish we could go more often. Sometimes it might be nice to have 8 people at a table, rather than just 6 .
The service was excellent and the food was prepared to our liking ... what more could we ask?
Some of our friends object to the two week previous reservation requirement, but I found doing the reservation on the computer quite easy.
This is a great way to support the culinary arts students of SCCC while enjoying a pleasurable evening dining out with friends. The food and the preparation are excellent, the price is extremely reasonable, and it's fun to interact with the waiters and waitresses.... and learn about their goals in the food service industry. This is an inexpensive night out during the week. You won't be sorry you made reservations here!
Open Table web site does not work for this restaurant very good. :( Tried to contact someone, anyone at open table and only contact available is email which looks like automatic response. Very poor service. Can't wait till next year when SCCC will no longer be using this website for reservations.
The food, as always was fabulous! I have a bike-hike group (SOS Outdoorsie group ... largely older singles) that we attempt to get together at the Casola after a bike-hike meeting, and it is always well attended, and the group loves it! The only down-side is trying to get reservations for 12 people. I'd like to choose a date and call someone several months in advance. This time, try as we might, we were only able to get seating for eight. We left a few people very disappointed, and I hate to do that!
As always, a visit to the Casola Ding Room is a treat! Great job!
Everything about the experience was mostly lovely. Our waiter however seemed seriously inexperienced. He did not introduce himself, seemed awkward, needed to learn more waiter/table etiquette, ie.taking plates away without asking if we were finished or saying anything, not very friendly, not chatty. That put a negative spin on our first experience. Food was very good but the bread was too salty. We had to ask to have our bottle of wine opened. The gentleman handling the wine that evening was charming. We would try it again definitely.
Our server (Michelle) was very cordial and knowledgeable with questions we had asked.
The floor manager (Devon) was extremely personable coming by each table to meet and greet us and to ask us if we were enjoying our meal.
All in all it was a very enjoyable luncheon at the Casola Dining Room on 3/10/17 - 12:30 pm seating. Thank You.
Dining at Casola Dining Room at Schenectady County Community College is always a pleasure if you're lucky enough to get a reservation. It is all run as part of the culinary program at SCCC so don't expect perfection, but the students are very good at what they do, are eager to please and enthusiastic. My friends, family and I have been dining here for years. The biggest hassle is getting a reservation, which needs to be made 2 weeks in advance to the day you desire. Lunch served two days a week, Tues and Thurs, at two limited seatings, Noon and 12:30 PM. Dinner is served Mon and Wed at 7:00 and 7:30 PM. The dining room is higher end (linen tablecloths and napkins), with a quiet relaxing ambiance and student art work adorning the walls. The menu varies each week depending on the curriculum, fall semester is regional American and spring semester is International. Three courses of delicious, well presented food, multiple options for each course, including vegetarian in a great dining room, all for $16.00 all inclusive, ($22.00 for dinner).
We went for the Brazil Menu and it was excellent. This is not our first visit and we find the lunch dining a great value as the portions are the same as dinner but $6 less. I had the potato chicken croquettes and my wife the brazilian salad and both were very good. I ordered the chile and cumin marinated hanger steak which was out of this world like a 5 star quality restaurant. Perfectly cooked. Our waiter Abby did an excellent service at our table, she was very friendly and efficient.
The Casola dining room was great. The food was excellent and the service we got was good. Keeping in mind that the food is prepared by students and the servers are also students, this was a cool experience. And 3 courses for $22? What a deal. $3 corkage fee, even better.
For quality of food, excellent service, ambiance, and price, one cannot beat having a lunch at the Casola Dining Room. Each week, the selection changes to a new theme. The students prepare and serve the food as part of their curriculum. I highly recommend attending the Casola especially if you have a special occasion. You will not be disappointed. As an added benefit, you get to ask the students about their program and what they hope to do when they complete the course work.
The Casola Dining room at Schenectady Community College is a not to miss for lunch or dinner during the school term. The culinary students must work the dining room as part of their course work. The service is excellent and well supervised. Behind the scenes, other students are preparing the dinner (same meal served at lunch and dinner). Each week offers a different theme. This dining room is not to be missed. $16 for lunch and $5 more for dinner all inclusive.
The dessert of the deconstructed banana pudding was very good. I also enjoyed the ceviche of scallops. My friend enjoyed the pork dish. The only complaint I have is that it was cold in the restaurant. Service was very good and the questions we asked were answered.
This was my third visit to the Casola Dining Room for lunch, and each time I've found the food excellent, service is very good, the waitstaff are pleasant and efficient. I have recommended to many friends and family that they, too, should go and enjoy a relaxing, delicious lunch!
Unfortunately, when we arrived at the restaurant, which is attached to Schenectady Co. Comm. College, it had been evacuated because of a bomb threat. The entire lunch and dinner were cancelled for the day! Very disappointing! It was also the last Tues. for the semester so I will have to wait til the Fall session.
