Cascal Ratings and Reviews
Came here because I heard great things about this place and thought it would be fun to take my sister here who was visiting from LA. Very disappointed! Food was bad. The paella was horrible, the sizzling shrimp was so bad I couldn’t eat it. The Peruvian ceviche was the only thing that was good.
We always have a great time when we come here, and this time was no exception! We started at the bar with a couple of orange margaritas (the best ones!) while we waited for our table to be ready. Even for a wednesday night, we were impressed by how busy it got during the 6:00 hour.
Once seated we were promptly served by a seemingly hurried server, however the actual food and beverage service was pleasant and timely. We were a little taken back by the high prices of the small plates, but we ended up having plenty of food with 4 plates between us, with leftovers for lunch! Chalk it up to downtown dining at a popular restaurant.
Food was bland, not nearly as tasty as my other times at this restaurant. Server brought out side dishes 10 minutes before the Paella arrived. Side dishes were cold when it arrived. The Cascal and veggie paella's were bland and could not discern the spices. Also PAella was only warm, not hot.
Overall a disappointment as I have had very good experiences at this restaurant before.
Bad - very loud, always hectic during normal eating periods, and the prices are way to high for what you get.
Good - excellent options that you cannot get too many places even in the bay area. Service is usually at a decent pace.
Mixed bag - have never had anyone hate this place but some have certainly not wanted to come back as $16 tapas add up really fast!
Red Sangria is very good. Desserts, meh.
Delicious dinner! Lots of fun tapas to choose from, and excellent, friendly service. We were there on a Friday night -- there was a great band playing with lots of people dancing. Our table was right next to the action, so it was very loud. The staff kindly accommodated our request to move mid-meal to a quieter table, so we could hear each other talk while still enjoying the music. We'll be back!
The food was very good (tried the Seafood Paella) and the Peruvian Ceviche, Calamari and Octopus . . . all were very good to excellent. Service was also very good to excellent. The prices were a little too high and the amount of food needs a little improvement (more!).
Before we ordered, we asked our server if there where certain menu items that could be prepared and served speedily, because our nine year old grand-daughter could not go to bed late (camp the next day). The food arrived in good time, and was very tasty. We let our server know that we appreciated the good service.
I have been to Cascal's several times and will continue to dine here. Two of us ordered four tapas plates and it was plenty of food for dinner. We ordered the fried calamari, the fried olives stuffed with cheese, the beef empanadas, and the roasted Brussel sprouts. All were delicious.
We especially loved the Brussel sprouts. The restaurant was full and energetic which I like. Even though it was a bit noisy, our table next to the window gave us some privacy and we were able to carry on a conversation without yelling. Will definitely come back again!
Pro's : nice place, online reservation very easy, seated right away, nice presentation, sangria drinks tasted so good.
Con's: server didn't come right away. I'm assuming because my friend didn't come on time but I was starving when I came and it would have been better if the server came right away at least to start with appetizer.
Food was ok. Ceviche was disappointing compare to other places I've been to. Sampler was ok as well. It is not something memorable.
This restaurant is definitely worth the drive. It is a 30 minute drive for me. When I walk in Cascals I feel good ! It has such a warm and vibrate feeling....There are many food choices but all of the ones I have chosen are wonderful ! I have eaten there at least eight times over the last few years. The first time I dined there it was for a work Christmas dinner. Give it a try you won't be disappointed !!
I think the restaurant food is very overpriced for the portions. Example I ordered the lamb chops from the main menu for 23$, the portion was 4 small chops of lamb served almost on a plate-sized like a side plate, with a few potatoes, dreadful, in all honesty, they should portion their food better, it's a joke to pay that much for such a small portion. We had a party of four, we all ordered from the menu, the total bill came to about 174$, with one drink (sangria) rest table water, we did have two desserts. But the pricing doesn't feel right. I would rather spend that type of money in a place that would offer a better ambiance, service, and attention. The staff here seemed rush and can barely keep up, had to flag down a waiter a few time's to get a refill on sodas. Overall I don't think I would return again, maybe only for a drink and appetizer at the bar but no sit-down dinner. Overpriced and overrated.
We came here to celebrate my wife's birthday and since we will be going to Spain one day, we wanted to try out the best in Spanish food. The tapas menu is very good. We ordered the Brussel sprouts that were definitely the best tasting Brussel sprouts we've ever had against any other restaurant. It had a sweet/savory taste to them. We also ordered the Beef empanandas and they were very good...tasty, great crust, very warm temperature. Lastly, we ordered the Paella Cascal and that was great, too. We highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner. The food and service are perfect!
There was little attention paid to us, and all the food servers could do was run past us and just "dump" the plate at our table. Very, very disappointing considering it was an Anniversary dinner. Would not recommend unless you are in for a very fast, rushed meal. We got the check and the desert menu thrown at us at the same time - just really aweful.
