Great service, nice setting. Go for the tapas and wine. Flan and chocolate mousse cake for desert.
We required all vegetarian meal. The tapas were great for veggie options. Corn poblano and mushroom empanadas were two favorites... The vegetarian paella was good, but not extraordinary. Ambiance, live music, great service, and tasty fare made this a great night out with friends.
My husband and I have been here several times. We always enjoy the variety of dishes available. I always think of it as a culinary adventure. We especially enjoyed the tapas sampler which was plenty for the 2 of us to share as a meal.
We have never been disappointed. This time we came for Saturday lunch to celebrate a friends birthday.
It was quieter than it is at night which we appreciated.
The band was great. Wish the dance floor was a little larger and wish the view was not obstructed from our table by the partition but otherwise the food and service was great! Excellent date night location.
I enjoyed the tapas and was happy they put our family in a quieter section of the restaurant. The service was excellent. My wife is a bit of a purist when it comes to tapas, and she felt that they were not authentically Spanish. Still yummy to me (sizzling shrimp, mussels pimenton, corn poblano saute, heart of palm salad & wild mushroom empanadas)!
I frequent Cascal with friends for drinks, dinner and special occasions. It's a great meeting place with great food choices that are easily shared with great vegetarian and vegan choices too. I dont have to worry about what the food preferences are of my group because they have that covered. The bar is vibrant with friendly bartenders and great Sangria.
Great blend of meso-American, Caribbean, Iberian culinary influences. Tapas to "Large Plates," but not overwhelming in sizes for either. Easy to share dishes.
Always excellent service and exceptionally prepared food. It's our go to special occasion restaurant. Great to bring first timers. We're never disappointed.
We were seated immediately and server Mark was awesome. We will be back
Wonderful service and delicious, interesting food. I was unhappy to see a dog sitting in a dog stroller at the table next to me. Later, the dog's owner removed the dog from the stroller. This dog was clearly not a service dog. It was not wearing a service vest. If the dog was certified as "emotional needs," Cascal should have allowed this dog and other animals on the patio only, as do many other restaurants.
An overall fun environment. Friendly waiters. Excellent food and service.
Both the main dish and the dessert were cold. Got sick after I had lunch
Great food, very tasty and great service with a beautiful ambiance. Restaurant very accommodating to special dietary needs
I have been to Cascal various times over the years. The concept is great. However the implementation leaves a bit to be desired because of the noise level and acoustics. It is usually so loud that one has to shout to be heard.
We had the paella, it was very good, the waitress was very friendly and offered lots of options for gluten free dining
Love this place it’s one of our favorite places to go when we’re in the area.
The food was tasty but this is a big, crowded, noisy restaurant that lacks a nice ambience. The menus are covered in plastic, and the service, while prompt and friendly, made me feel like I was eating in a big chain restaurant.
I was at Cascal awhile back and a group of us shared a bunch of small plates. The menu has changed since then, couldn't find as many interesting choices. Mushroom empanadas were good, ordered the charcuterie board but it's really just a meat board- no cheese or bread/crackers to go with it.
The server was trying to clean up on the table too early, which was not comfortable. Please make sure the customer was satisfied in the situation during the meals.
Highly recommend tapas. It was fun to share 4 different ones and a dessert (2 people). All tapas were creative and delicious: corn poblano saute, wild mushroom empanadas, eggplant tian and beef short rib adobo. Nice ambience: palm tree, arches. Wait staff excellent.
Three is us really enjoyed our lunch at Cascal. There is inside or outside dining. The wait staff was very attentive and pleasant. I had the cauliflower and kale soup, which was delicious but the portion could have been a bit bigger. My friends both had the shrimp tacos and liked their selection. The restaurant is in a great location at the corner of Castro and California - thus the name - with free parking close by.
Cascal continues to be top notch in Silicon Valley for authentic Spanish food. Services is excellent, and prices are reasonable. Very popular go-to restaurant.
Too loud on Saturday evening to have a conversation.
I've left many reviews for Cascal as I have been here on numerous occasions and I'm never disappointed. Cascal has delicious and interesting food. The drinks are plentiful and their are many options both alcoholic and not.
I hardly ever get to dessert (eyes bigger than stomach!) but when I do, it's worth it.
Lots of BIG groups, but they managed to bring out the food in a timely manner. My guest is GF and her shrimp came breaded despite a long previous conversation with the server. It was remedied quickly.
We had a bad Valentine's Day experience at Cascal. We had a late reservation (8:45) and when we arrived, the hostess told us they were running behind and they would text us when ready. My wife and I went to the bar and 30 minutes passed without a text. We went back to the hostess stand and apparently they forgot about us because we were seated right away.
Our waiter was inattentive and not personable. He offered no conversation or recommendation, but a short "What would you like?". When we were done eating, our empty plates sat on the table for 15 minutes before they were cleared. Needless to say we didn't stick around for dessert.
The food was bland and poorly presented. I will not be going back to Cascal.
Lamb shank entrée was amazing!
If you run a restaurant, you'll want to visit Cascal to see how to run a really good restaurant. We've eaten here many times and always, repeat always, have an excellent time, great food and expert service. We've come here for lunch (mostly business lunches), for dinner and just to enjoy a drink at the bar or on the patio. The menu is extensive and gives you many choices for your meal from tapas to delicious entrees. We love the paella - they know how to make it perfectly. For those of you who are vegetarians, they have a paella for you - and if you love seafood paella, they have the more traditional Spanish paella. Don't miss their sangria - it's house made and really good. One of our favorite restaurants!
Overall service is remarkable. One thing they took a plate that me and my wife love. The plate is Chile Relleno, I hope that they can bring it back. We express our concern to the manager and they're working on it. It's been 4 months and We were expecti g that dish this Friday. Don't have it.
My wife and I (in our 70s) dined at Cascal on a Friday night, pre-theater. The restaurant was packed, but with a reservation we did not have to wait. Even though it was packed, the service was not slow. We shared 4 tapas, and sangria. My wife particularly liked the mushroom empanadas, and I liked the beef short rib adobo, and we both liked the crab tostaditos best. The eggplant Tian was okay, with a good sauce. The place was loud with conversation, and we were happy to have a table in a corner. It was still hopping when we walked by near 10:00 after the show.
Fun and good food. Small servings and high cost.
The food continues to be good. We dined on a Friday night and the noise level was extreme. We could barely hear each other across the table. We were seated right next to a service area and the servers kept banging plates on the plastic divider. I would return here but would only eat on the patio. It is much quieter at lunch.
Hey, I don’t make Tapas at home, so when I’m at Cascal, it’s tapas. My wife and I share the tapas platter. Yummy.
The ambiance of this location was very lively, and I enjoyed it. The staff members were friendly and came around just enough to be helpful and polite but not overwhelming. The reason for my lower rating for this restaurant was the price to portion ratio. I spent $45 on a beer and two sizzling shrimp dishes. These shrimp plates were nothing more than 5 shrimp sitting in seasoning/sauce. While they were certainly tasteful, I can't justify that price for what I received. Not too thrilled to come back
Patio is nice when the weather is right. Great food and service.
I have been to this restaurant a few times over the years. I thought the tapas sampler was very
good, but the price has risen by 19 dollars, and risen, as well, on the rest of the menu on certain dishes.
However, they do have reasonably priced food. I, unhappily, chose the wrong dish. I ordered a dish with small pork bellies. Never having eaten them before, I was totally put off by the fat in
them. They were almost entirely made of fat with very little pork. I guess I should have asked
more questions. I left most of the dish except for the sliced apple and papaya salad. Not a good
day for me, but I will return and try something else next time. It's a very attractive restaurant
and the outside is very nice place to eat, especially on a comfortable day. My two friends ordered some kind of mushroom dish but walked away hungry.
Love it for the cocktails and ceviche. We had a wonderful lunch and at that time of day it was not too loud. I have been coming for years and will continue to do so.
Good food but was way TOO LOUD. There was a band playing and drowned out all conversation
Sitted right away. Patience waitress. Fresh salad. Yummy Paella. Paired with our wine.Delish dessert. Not rushed. Great weather for outside lunch. Relaxed lunch.
