Celebrated birthday last Sunday and food and service were excellent.
We ate outside which was less noisy than inside, and heat lamp made the cool spring evening bearable. The paella was great and pork belly tapas was also very good.
Table was ready. We only had 90 minutes to visit before a flight from San Jose and service was fast and everyone enjoyed it.
This is a nice place, fun, live music on Friday's popular but BUSY and even with reservations we had to wait over 20 mins to be seated which wasn't ideal. The food was very good, but I ordered the lamb chops with literally came as lamp chops with a small amount of cooked potato cubes and a sauce. Not very filling so I ordered a beet salad afterward which was delicious. It was very noisy inside and the band plays in a small corner in the front of the restaurant which is an odd entrance and they should re-figure for entrance on the side where you dob't have to walk past tables and waiters to get inside and maybe have more room to stand while waiting to be seated, otherwise it is a fun place with delicious food.
Noise level too high. We ordered a big paella requested plates to eat....only small plates wee given to us. Lack of attention to details.
Cocktails were pretty good, food was good - nice spot for a group!
Great food and excellent service. Left a bag behind, called, and got this back .. very well handled thank you!
Service was terrible. The waiters were just standing around. Took forever to get waters and to put our orders in. Calamari was not seasoned at all. Tuna tartare needs more acid. Cauliflower was overcooked.
Excellent food, nice wine selection, great service, and awesome live music on weekends. The ambience is welcoming and the noise level just right (the super high ceilings help the acoustics). The location is great and the online booking makes it easy to find a table short notice. It's one of our favorite places.
A great place for dinner, but with very high prices.
Ordered a salad, Mushroom Empanadas, Brussels Sprouts and the Short Rib plate. Everything was delicious!
Had a reservation for 7 PM for a party of 3 on Friday night. I arrived promptly at 7 PM and still, my friends and I waited another 30 minutes before we were able to sit down. Kind of defeats the purpose of a "reservation." This is the only reason I gave 3 stars for service. Price was $151 for 3 appetizers, 1 large paella marinera, 2 desserts, 1 coffee, 2 hot teas and 1 sparkling water.
Reading the menu is much better than eating the food. Generally cloying combinations of seasonings (the churrasco, paella, corn poblano, an cauliflower in particular), and all the vegetables were overcooked. The "pan-Latin" menu (Cuban, Argentinian, Mexican, Spanish, ...) seems to have led to "jack of all trades, master of none." Of 8 dishes I tried, the only really delicious item was the wild mushroom empanadas. Noisy.
Great food, and sangria. I would strongly recommend the banana leaf chicken tapas. The host and waiter were very accommodating of my 1yr old, and made lunch a memorable experience for us.
Great service. Wait staff friendly and accomodating. Staff knowledgeable about the menu. Food was yummy.
Business lunch. Food was very good! Sat promptly at reservation time. Great spot!
Maybe the best eggplant I have had. Excellent service.
Great Live music, and ambience.
Great food. Loved the Paella
Overpriced tapas plates that were priced at full size plate sizes. Not true tapas. Plates were dull not very inventive. We got there at 5:40 for a 6:15 reservation - there were empty tables and they still made us wait till closer till 6 before we were seated. Really inefficient, unfriendly service.
It was quite noisy, but I would definitely go there again...service and food were excellent.
Absolutely great menu and excellent service. It was bustling but they kept up with our order and requests -- and even delivered a surprise birthday dessert when they noticed we were celebrating one at the table. A great spot!
My only complaint is that I wish whoever checked us in had done it the right way so that Open Table didn’t think we hadn’t shown and I had to explain that we had.
Cascal is our new go to place for dinner. Wanted best place to take my Valentine and sounded like best bet on the internet. We enjoyed the ambiance, service and food. It is really a nice place to sit and dine on Castro St. Also we felt it was quite affordable.
Service was really bad, it took the waiter more than 13 min to take our order, we order drinks and we asked to 3 different person for our drinks after 10 min food is relatively good and the ambiance too
Wonderful service and excellent food. I recommend trying the banana leaf chicken tapa dish. Really enjoyed the cucumber jalapeno margarita as well.
It’s always a fun place, love the paella the flank steak was excellent also
Food was outstanding, but a bit pricey.
Valentine’s Day dinner was a little crowded and noisy. There seemed to be extra tables added, since they were very close together. But the food was excellent and the service was good, so we enjoyed our dinner.
We went to Cascal for Valentine's Day and it was just perfect. Our waiter, Ivan, gave us great recommendations and always seemed to be there when needed. The butternut squash soup and queso fundido were so delicious and my husband live the puerco cubano. I could see the meat just falling off the bone, very juicy. And I love the atmosphere of thia place. We'll have to come back when they have live salsa music.
Great customer service. The food and ambiance was amazing. Highly recommend Cascal.
We love the place and support you almost from the day one. We brought the rest of the fam8ly, our friends and acquaintances. Love the food, love drinks and love your hard working crew.
Very good tapas and drinks. The service was friendly, fast and accurate. It gets crowded very quickly on the weekend so go early.
The food was delicious and unique flavors and taste combinations.
Cascal paella is terrific. Serving person Victor was attentive, prompt and able to anticipate desires. Have been there several times and never disappointed.
I highly recommend this fine restaurant to foodies.
The food was ok this time. Would have liked more shrimp options. They removed some options from their menu, which was disappointing as i was looking forward to the shrimp ceviche.
Pleasant, not too noisy, great menu selection. And even a nice selection of sherries!
Excellent food, good cocktails. It is so loud that it is hard to have a conversation with your dinner guest. Especially hard for elderly people with hearing issues.
