The bar/restaurant area we sat in was cozy and the service was great but out of all the places we ate at in Estes Park, this was the worse. My BBQ Short Rib Grilled Cheese was burned black and my fries were overcooked. I'm surprised it was even allowed to leave the kitchen.
If you want to go, go to see the hotel and take the tour. I would not ever recommend eating at this restaurant.
Too expensive!!! My Italian place back home 100 times better! Food was mediocre at best...waited far too long...not busy.
Our food, service, and overall experience was excellent! We can’t wait to return when we are in the area again!
Needed reservations. The person seating us said we were going to be seated in the dining room but ended up in the bar. That was were our reservation was at, but don't know why we were told (and wanted) the dining room. Only reservation was at 9pm which in a way was lucky as they stopped serving drinks at 9:30 so a lot of the NOISE left then. Piped in music was too loud. My son had the steak and frites. It looked rather bland in presentation. Ordered an appetizer which never came. We were not billed for it so at least that worked out that way. I had the beef wellington and I enjoyed it. Overall experience at the Stanley was disappointing so hard to be excited about an overpriced meal when being there was not enjoyable.
Thoroughly enjoyed our return experience. Awesome food and service. Highly recommend!
It’s OK. Reservations for the restaurant may actually be in the bar area instead. More awkward eating in high bar chairs.
Manager is brisk and rude. Couldn’t be bothered with a dinner or hotel guest.
Not much variety. Maybe because of COVID19 scaled down menu. Had steak which was good but the steak medallions were dry and not good. Pasta was not very good either. Overpriced. Was seated in bar area maybe that is why we had to tell the waitress we were eating dinner after waiting almost a half hour. She ignore our kids not even asking if they would like anything.
If you like truffle- you’ve come to the right place! Amazing.
When we checked in we wanted to get a cocktail at the bar as we were about 25 min. Early. We were told that we couldn't stand at the bar after ordering drinks but that we would need to walk around in the bar with them. The bar was already filled with patrons at tables and it was already not social distancing so we felt uncomfortable doing that and we not offered any information about taking our drinks to the front or rear patio areas of the hotel and since we didn't know that there was an option we didn't purchase any. Later during our meal in the dining room we noticed several groups of 2 standing and drinking at the bar so obviously there is misinformation given to the staff. Our dining experience was not any better, service was slow, we waited for 5 minutes before any greeting or service, our server was friendly bit had no sense of urgency. We shared a wedge salad and lamb shank entree. Our salad was small and had very little bacon or tomatoes, the lamb shank was tough and not braised long enough, we had to cut the meat away from the bone and it should be fork tender. It had very little broth and was a big disappointment.
Not what I expected. It seemed more upscale that it actually was. People rushing in to take a pic, have a drink at the bar, or ask questions about ghost, dressed in shorts, or casual clothing, it definitely killed the romantic atmosphere I was hoping for. The prices were definitely on the high end. We enjoyed but probably will not be returning.
Vacationing with my husband and 2 boys during fall break and wedding anniversary. Cascades was a fantastic meal and experience! Our service was fantastic and we even got to try a couple different wines to compliment our charcuterie board we ordered along with descriptions of each of the cheeses and what they taste best with. Our meals were wonderful! My youngest had a grilled cheese from the kid’s menu, my husband ordered short rib grilled cheese, I had chicken milanese, and my other son had steak and frites. My son’s steak was not necessarily the best we have had, but we are very picky when it comes to steak. Everything else was perfect! The restaurant was very clean and I felt the proper COVID-19 safety protocols were being followed. Thanks for the great meal and service!
Amazing day! Great wines, food was fantastic a d the service was good.
Really fantastic food with great ambiance and service. Loved the historic bar and dining area. The bone marrow appetizer was incredible, and the beef Wellington was visually stunning and equally delicious! Wish we’d had room for dessert!
Our dinner at Cascades was the high point of our stay at the Stanley. Food was excellent; service a little spotty, but we understand that they were short-handed due to some employees calling in sick. The price was high, as one would expect at a luxury hotel, but not exorbitant.
Was a nice atmosphere, menu felt a little limited and when we told them it was out anniversary I expected a little something special but ordered a dessert and waited about 15 minutes, I believe they ran out of the cake we ordered so instead we got a free made up dessert of two smaller brownies and some marshmallow fluff which was good but I think it was more of a make good for not having the cake we wanted vs a comp for our special day. Food came out warm but not hot.
Very disappointing... I ordered a steak that was very expensive which I ordered medium rare, and it came medium well. My husband ordered the Beef Wellington which was just ok... for about twice the price of any other place we've had it. In addition, he ordered a glass of wine to enjoy with his meal which came when he was essentially already done eating. This was to celebrate my husbands birthday and his retirement, bottom line the restaurant was just no up to the hype, and clearly I should have picked another place for the celebration.
The upscale venue failed miserably to deliver food and service to match. Perhaps we will give them another chance post Covid but there are many other restaurants that consistently deliver good food and service for less than half the price.
For an upscale hotel like The Stanley we found the food to be very uninspired and bland.
Priced very upscale. The quality does not reflect your reputation.
This was supposed to a highlight of our Estes Park trip, but when we arrived, we were told the kitchen had been closed all day and would not reopen for three more hours. We were unable to eat there and missed an important part of our trip after waiting to have a late lunch. We were turned away without an apology. It would have been nice to recieve a phone call at least.
When you charge $12 for seven small onion rings, they should be cooked to perfection, not overcooked and burnt, as was our case. I love a wedge salad, but this was very disappointing with the sparse toppings. When we requested extra dressing, we were given Caesar dressing.
We came expecting to order the fabulous boiled shrimp. These were not on the menu to our disappointment.
Service was not great at all. Drinks were great!
Service was terrible, I think they forgot our order. Didn't even offer to compensate us or try to right their wrong.
Try a new whiskey. Appetizers are enough to share and all sounded good.
Very enjoyable evening.
Dinner took several hours, it was noisy, and the food was not great. Menu descriptions don’t accurately describe what you will be getting.
The dining room, while being historic, looked more tired than nostalgic. The plate presentation was very poor. We ordered the Cesar salad, and it was served on a plate that was twice the size of the salad. The chicken plate was just as bad. We came expecting fine dining, and were very disappointed.
Food and service was wonderful!
I was looking forward to dinner here. But honestly it was the most horrible experience I’ve ever had. We got there at 430 for our 5 reservation. Was told to wait till we were closer to our time. Ok. I get that. So we looked at the menu on this website, on the hotel website and outside of the restaurant- none were the same. Then we were seated we received another menu was provided. We asked about the specials and the waitress wasn’t sure. The only thing she was sure about was they were not offering their beef Wellington until 530 and that most of what they had on the menu was sold out. When she did come back after about 45 later she stated that our appetizer had been taken by someone and they didn’t have any more. So we left.
The restaurant website and this website all said it was smart casual for dress. But we saw most people were wearing flip flops and shorts. Not sure where the smart casual was but it wasn’t there.
Totally disappointed and we ended up going back into town for a very nice dinner. Would not recommend this restaurant to my enemies.
Was worried going in after reading reviews. We lucked out had a seat by one of the fires, and had a pretty attentive waitress. We had the buffalo ribeye was fresh and delicious as was the broccolini. I would recommend ordering when you sit down and bring upfront with seating/eating requests well in advance.
The flat bread appetizer was very good but needed more goat cheese. Two of us had the specials, bass - so so, and the bison bolognese - pretty good, and one of us had the trout which they said was good. We've eaten at the Stanley before and know it's pricey and we don't mind. However, when the food is so mediocre, it's very disappointing. The cocktails were great!
Sitting outside at the table with the gas fire pit was the best part!
Staff were all friendly!
My husband and I went to Cascades to experience the Stanley Hotel, but the restaurant itself was not a great experience. For the price level, the atmosphere did not match at all. We were seated in the bar area at a high top in the middle of all the buzz of people coming in and out to go to the bar. It felt like we were sitting at the bar and not at a dine-in experience. The service was terrible--we waited 20 minutes for a waitress to first come to our table to take our drink order. We did not receive our food for another 1.5 hours. The waitress gave us a free dessert since it took so long (that we ended up taking to go so we wouldn't have to sit there much longer) but for a meal that is over $150 we felt like the experience did not warrant the price.
We stayed at the Stanley Hotel and enjoyed its beautiful location. We had drinks at Whiskey Bar which is great. Our dinner at Cascades was pretty bad. 3 of the 4 of us couldn't get what we wanted because they had run out of the food even though it wasn't that late. The menu was limited so 2 of us ended up with a pasta dish which was inedible. The other 2 had burgers which were fine. We ate inside, and our waiter's mask only came up halfway so it was uncomfortable as he stood right on top of us. So a disappointing experience for dinner. It may be related to these difficult times but we won't go back there to eat.
High prices for average food. Seated in bar - asked for outside. Cocktails way too expensive!
I have never written a poor review, however I do feel compelled to share my experience. It was my wife’s 35Th birthday so we decided to go somewhere special and “high end” to celebrate. The whisky bar and patio are a delight. Any scotch/whisky You can think of. Beautiful with a great ambiance. We sat down to a nice high top table with very comfortable seating. I was appreciative of the comfortable chairs, as it was 20 minutes before we were greeted and asked for beverages. No big deal, this happens, I understand. We ordered drinks and explored the menu with excitement. The food arrived and we had some confusion. Our orders seemed to be, well wrong. I politely asked our waitress if there was a mixup, and she replied “no, you were ordering off the old outdated menu, I thought you knew”. I just want to know, how I’m supposed to know, that the menu provided to me by your staff is incorrect. Our server blamed the hostess and handed me my bill. I had no problem with the bill, just sadness that the meal I thought was going to be amazing, turned out to be a comical disaster. I expected my bill to be double what it was because we wanted to hang out and have drinks, but we were never asked if we would like a second round. Which sucks because we were very excited to get a flight of pappy. At this point my wife was so disappointed that I just wanted to pay the bill and run out of there. I’m sure my single experience is not indicative of what the owner considers normal, and I don’t hold it against them, but this was unacceptable service, and an extremely poor experience. All in all, the food was indeed ok, not what we ordered but it was good. The service was the worst I’ve ever had.
Tried calling 4 times and left messages to get updated menu and no answer no return call.
Menus on line inconsistent with emails received. Menu was so limited, appetizers were the only option.
Service was slow and order was wrong. No local or exotic options and no fish or seafood.
Beautiful setting and poorly run.
Food and drinks are Very expensive, but we did expect that. Atmosphere is great. The place is absolutely beautiful. Food was ok. Really expected better. Although the server was very nice, she didn’t check back with us, then brought our bill. We would have ordered another drink, but felt rushed. I would visit again. Every place deserves another chance.
Had a few appetizers and a beer. The redrum ipa was hoppy and delicious. The salmon croquettes we’re amazing, as were the elk sliders. The fig flatbread was a little sweet and the bone marrow was good. Overall it was a great experience and I would go back when in the area.
Shockingly poor service and seriously overpriced food with minuscule portions. Caesar salad with 1-2 pieces of iceberg lettuce, one-half hard boiled egg, and one single ring from an onion for $12. Reservation was not honored. No host or hostess. 50 minutes to get food. No COVID cleaning or spacing. Tables close together. Guests wandering around for tables.
Unfortunately the food was severely over cooked to the point that we could barely eat it. The server did take the most overcooked meal off the bill. Just expected a bit better for the high price we were paying. Ambiance does make up for it a bit. Might soak in the ambiance first and then eat somewhere else next time.
$20 for two elk sliders seems a little much and $16 for a drink. Beautiful place with beautiful prices.
