Casbah Ratings and Reviews
We shared the calamari and rock shrimp appetizer - it was very flavorful and the perfect texture. My wife had the Lobster Gnocchi, and I had the Cavatappi with house-made fennel sausage. Both were excellent; portion sizes were good. Great, friendly service. The complimentary valet parking was awesome - it can be difficult to find parking in Shadyside. Overall a great way to celebrate our anniversary.
Sunday brunch at Casbah is one of the great civilized joys of Pittsburgh. The menu is varied and inventive, execution is wonderful, service is friendly and attentive. I have taken my 20-something daughter, who raved, and, this weekend, went alone and was perfectly comfortable. A good book, a terrific meal, and the best coffee -- what more do you want on a Sunday afternoon? Casbah is also a favorite for cozy romantic dinners.
Everything from start to finish was excellent!
My friend and I came to Casbah on a Sunday afternoon. Although we arrived earlier than our scheduled reservation we were seated immediately. Our server was friendly and answered all my friends inquiries regarding the vegetarian options. My sangria was perfect, my friend got the mimosa and she really liked it. A warm basket of fun size biscuits and scones and honey butter were light and just enough if you missed breakfast. The appetizers were crispy calimari with a zesty aioli and roasted beet salad, both were very tasty. My entree, was a satisfying serving of broiled salmon with tsaziki sauce on a bed of braised greens, well seasoned and medium rare. My friend ordered the orichetti pasta with brussel sprouts in an olive and garlic sauce. We were too full to order anything else, but will definitely be back to try desserts!
In my opinion, Casbah has consistently exceeded expectations in fine dining. Fresh Seasonal ingredients seasoned with Mediterranean flavors and expertly prepared!
I was looking forward to a lovely meal at this highly-rated restaurant. When I arrived, the lighting was so dark at the table that my friend had to take out her cell phone to use as a light source to read the menu.
I ordered the pork chop and risotto for $31. This is a steep price to pay for a pork entree that came served with only bread and butter (no salad or soup). A more reasonable price for this entree should have been around $18. The pork chop was tough and flavorless. The flavored risotto was very salty and the rice was too hard and needed cooked a shade longer.
I've eaten in some of the finest restaurants in the world and found this serving not to live up to the hype. Perhaps it was an off night. But I won't be back at those prices for what I received.
Not overwhelmed. I had salad with sliced chicken breast for lunch. Not as good as can make myself, but I am a very good cook and I hope a high end restaurant would do better than me for the price. 4 very small slices of Chicken just ok, not very tender and included a tough end piece I left on the plate. It was on a handful of greens with a few other items sprinkled in. My guest had an omelette that he liked a lot. It looked kind of lonely on the plate, I would have garnished it or included a nice side. Creme brûlée and coffee were excellent. It was a business lunch so food not so important. Service was fast and efficient not especially friendly. Don’t think I would go back for personal meal.
We decided to use my husband's Big Burrito Group birthday coupon to try Casbah's famous brunch. Even without the coupon, $28 per person was a great price for a massive amount of food and a tasty brunch cocktail. I was full just from the complimentary pastries and appetizer, but I stuffed myself with some delicious lamb and eggs. My husband enjoyed his meal, but he said he wished he would have made better choices. His shrimp appetizer was a little heavy on the sweet for his tastes, and his burger was spot-on in flavor but overall too mushy in texture. I would definitely go back, with or without a coupon for an excuse!
Excellent meal as usual. Enjoyed the Nouveau Beaujolais tasting dinner on Nov 16. Even though the restaurant was quite busy for our early dinner time, the service was prompt and attentive. It was a great opportunity to sample a few dishes that my wife and I would not normally order as an entrée, and each course was outstanding.
I often dine out for work, and I went to Casbah numerous times in the past few years. At some it was a go-to place thanks to consistent quality. Lately I find Casbah inconsistent (it was not my choice for the night) when it comes to the taste and preparation. Halibut was bland and didn't go well with garnishing (fruit based). Appetizers were more interesting. On the positive side I like the ambiance of outside area, where you can dine on large tables fairly distant from each other. Service is also good. Finally overall value is low given the high price tags. A simple $10 bottle of white wine was charged $45 (unfortunately that is a common problem, can you explain the need to charge 4X ?) and entrees mostly in the $30-$40 range. So a dinner is about $100 before gratuity and taxes If you also want an appetizer and dessert.
The food and service was great. There were six of us and we all had different plates with a lot of tasting so there was much variety of excellently prepared food. My swordfish was perfectly done which is always a test of a good restaurant since it is easy to dry it out.
The waitress was charming and helpful. One caveat to the evening - One reason we went to Casbah was that it was my birthday and I wanted to use the birthday coupon which I, of course, managed to forgot. It would have made the evening even more special if the restaurant could look up the fact that I had received the card and honored it. That was particularly true since my daughter had called from Minnesota, unbeknown to me, and surprised us with dessert as a birthday treat which brings me to the chocolate raspberry bread pudding which has to be one of the world's best desserts. What a fabulous dessert and enough for two.
Food was very good although my husband's lamb shank was not as tasty or tender as in past visits
My pork chops was excellent though.
Bartender thought a manhatten was an old fashion and wanted to add sugar and an orange.
My favorite though of all the Big Burrito restauratns.
Service is always terrific.
My favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. I bring anyone here I want to impress, but also come alone for lunch or with my family for dinner. Great wines, best cheese plate, each course leaves you weak in the knees. I find the service to always be outstanding with knowledgeable, friendly, professional staff. Pricey but worth every dime. Great value for lunch with the Gusto menu. Did I mention I love this place?
wonderful restaurant great food and drinks, lovely ambiance. Love to sit on the patio enclosed so it's open even in winter. Everything on the menu is wonderful, I just wish they would change the menu occasionally, I'd like to go more often but the choices are always the same.
I greatly enjoyed my time at Casbah. My boyfriend and I went there for a celebratory dinner and had a lovely night. The food and wine were spectacular and our waitress was outstanding. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for great cuisine and a special night out.
