The restaurant occupies a 1926 historic home nestled among the trees on the edge of downtown Sarasota. Patrons may choose indoor or outdoor dining (weather permitting), including our lovely rooftop seating area, tucked in under the branches of the old live oak trees that surround the building. Theres better Italian in Sarasota with better service. Ambiance was the only savior.
There were 4 people in our party. My guests enjoyed their food. I did not. My salmon was totally tasteless. I was told by the waiter that it was sock-eye salmon, but it looked farm raised because of the deep red color. It was the blandest salmon I've ever had, and I eat salmon 2 - 3 times a week.`The service was good and the waiter was pleasant. The bread basket was brought to the table AFTER the meals were served. My friend asked for extra sauce on his chicken parm and we were charge $2 extra ??? The dessert list was verbal.
My wife asked for a small scoop of vanilla ice cream and was given 2 scoops in a small dish for $9.95. I ordered the Almond Cake, which wasn't a cake at all. It was mostly a cream filling topped with almonds. Good, but not what I wanted or expected. Overall, it was OK, but nothing I would rush back for.
Absolutely delightful! In town for a wedding and find it!! Beautiful room and great service!
Lugar comida atención
Tallarines a la vongole como en el mejor resto de Trastevere
Nestor was a perfect server. Tricolore salad was delicious, meal was OK, very salty. Almond cake was fantastic! We sat in the back of the garden area next to a large table of guests. Hard to converse once they arrived. Request an outdoor table along the front.
Pasta bolognese was incredible. Appetizers were large portions - more than enough to share. Nestor , our waiter did a fantastic job!
This place is charming, food is pretty good and it wasn’t too loud. I think the building could use a refresh. A lot of the wines on the list were sold out. Staff was helpful but lacked some knowledge on the food and beverage program. Overall, it was just ok for us.
We enjoyed our meal so much! The food was absolutely delicious and authentically Italian. We enjoyed a terrific Barolo and the wait staff was superb! A must when you are in Sarasota.
This dining experience was our first since March 2020. We were really looking forward to going to a restaurant and wanted to visit this one as we had always noted how lovely it looks from the street. We were not disappointed in that regard-it’s very pretty. That is where the positive comments end. The evening began to go downhill when water was brought to the table. It was undrinkable, smelling of sulphur. It was reminiscent of the strong odor of the reclaimed water used on the lawn. We ordered dinner and asked for bread. After about 20 minutes, we asked again for the bread. We were told that the kitchen bakes it to order and there were orders ahead of ours. What finally arrived was shocking. Waiting for fresh baked bread, one would expect something at least sort of warm. We got four tiny slivers of cold, saltless bread, not even actual slices or even a small hunk of bread. No butter, no olive oil, just a tiny dish of something red that didn’t seem to go with bread. We waited another 1/2 hour for the entree. My dish contained so little food that we actually went to another restaurant afterward to get something else to eat. My companion’s dish was tasteless salmon accompanied by a tiny dish of an unpleasant sauce. When the server was asked about the dish, he chose to argue about it. His attitude was the last straw. We will not return and will share our experience.
Rather shabby interior, food so-so. But worse of all was the blaring saxophonist. We could barely have a conversation at our table. We won’t be going back.
We had a wonderful outdoor dining experience, beautiful ambience, friendly staff, and incredibly delicious food which is big coming from my boyfriend and I as we come from Italian families, and LOVE all things pasta.
We were going to a show at the Van Wezel and were looking for a place to eat. We saw Casantica and decided to try it. The food and service was excellent! We all cleaned our plates. The outside seating was lovely and the interior is super cute as well. Will definitely return.
Food was outstanding. Just wish there were more options of wine by the glass. Very disappointing.
Waiters did not recognize our two birthdays, it took over an hour to receive food, we never received coffee, and no one ever came to apologize or recognize the issue. Very disappointed and I feel bad for my mom, since I took her there to celebrate her birthday.
Great food. Leisurely pace. Attentive servers. Pleasant atmosphere with outside dining under cover. Love their sangria.
The meal was excellent. The homemade pastas and sauces were delicious. We loved the intimacy of the old fashioned decor. Love to go back and sit at the bar. Our server, Gabe, was just great.
I was charged for extra bread at 2.90 around.. when we spent 100 in food.
Dear Mr. Brian, We charged for bread after 20 bread services of it sent at your table. We serve the appropriated quantity of bread p/person according with the food ordered at each table. And we repeatedly served at your table such quantity that we reach at least a pound of bread. You asked repeatedly a bread refill each time we left a bread basket on your table. Sorry we are not a Bakery..... We are a Restaurant.
AS always, an outstanding dining experience. We return every coupleof weeks .
I will repeat
Great location, great food, great service, will go again
Second time in a week! The Carpaccio is one of the best I've ever had! Very friendly and attentive customer service - will definitely be back!
We were spread out from the other customers and felt very comfortable without masks inside, but the outside seating was also very spread out. We went with two picky kids who practically licked their plates clean, and made us come back the next night for dinner again. Over all the service was great and the atmosphere was beautiful and homey, and the food made us feel like we were back in Italy. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a taste of home, or a family who just wants some genuine pasta.
Sat outdoors. Ambience was great. Great service and food.
The service was helpful, attentive and accommodating of our requests. When the starters came out it was great, really delicious. When the mains came out it was even better, everything piping hot, and cooked perfectly. The presentation was lovely as well. Truly one of the best meals I’ve ever had (and from someone like me, acclaims of this nature are ones that are rarely given out)
Musician very loud. Unable to converse easily. Long wait for food, other tables received theirs before us. Food lukewarm.
First time there and very pleased with the overall experience. The service was extremely attentive and the food excellent! My husband had the carpaccio and the salad served with it was one of the best arugula salads I've ever had! Also, very nice size portions!
Amazing service and the food is incredible! Ended up eating here twice during our trip to Sarasota, and it was amazing both nights!
The difference between a great restaurant and a mediocre is how they handle any issues. The food was good, the service was a little lacking. Had to ask for a fork 3 times, twice after the food arrived.
The main problem was we had the sauteed calamari. I pulled a piece of packaging plastic out of one of my bites that was inside a piece of the calamari. When I brought it to their attention, it was answered by sorry and walked off. And it wasn't removed from the bill. At over $300 for the dinner, this was really unacceptable. And reflects the lack of level of service.
Dear Mr. Daulong, That you define "a piece of plastic" was just a little piece of the squid cartilage that unfortunately escaped from our sight during the preparation of the plate. We apologize for the inconvenience that we consider quite insignificant to deserving a so rude judgment. Over all it seemed you enjoy the plate because you asked for an extra bread service to eat the sauce in it, plate retired completely empty. Anyway....... we respect your opinion without agree with it. Best regards
Wonderful dinner- service was outstanding, and food could not have been better. Across the street from where the Westin and the Ritz Carlton are located- lovely location in a little house- very romantic to sit outside if the weather is nice-
Delicious northern Italian flavors and cool ambiance
We requested outside seating. They had our table barely outside around a corner next to a group. When we asked to be seated at 2 empty tables, they said it was not on their schedule. We tried to have someone explain but nothing made sense. Not the first time we had horrible service.
Dear Mrs. or Mr. Anonymous...... We have a system to assign tables (OPENTABLE) which allow us to rotate the tables according with the disponibility of the night and to allow us to use them for more than a sitting. If you can't understand that...... sorry is not our fault! Thanks for your nice review.
Made reservations and the table was waiting for us. We had a great table on the patio, as requested. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. The patio had a nice homey feel and was isolated from the noise of the neighborhood. The staff couldn’t have been any more attentive and polite. This will definitely be a stop each time i visit Sarasota.
The food was good but I enjoyed the outdoor dining experience more. The service was just fair, and it wasn’t that busy. I would give this restaurant another try, mostly because I was very comfortable with the outdoor dining space.
I celebrated my birthday at this lovely, romantic restaurant. The wine pours were generous. The fresh baked bread with sun-dried tomato dipping oil was very good. The caesar salad was good but not cold enough and overdressed. The carpaccio over arugula was acceptable. Lobster ravioli with a rich red sauce was quite good and the veal marsala was the best my husband has ever had. No complimentary birthday dessert here, but the tiramisu was good. There is live music on Saturdays. We felt the menu was rather limited and unimaginative, but the items we chose were well-prepared.
The food and service is always good. We had a wonderful private table. The ambiance is very romantic. Worth the trip. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Every element of the meal was great. The calamari was a highlight— melts in your mouth! I had the chicken park, and it didn’t disappoint. Fresh, tasty, well seasoned. I highly recommend this place!
Food was not great. Cesar salad was all cheese. Just not great food. Live music was way too loud had to ask them ti lower volume since I couldn’t hear my companion speak.
The food and service were outstanding! OMG, the lemon cake for desert was fantastic!! I just thought it was odd to serve my red wine cold? We will be going back to eat at this wonderful Italian restaurant.
Service is excellent. The food was only fair. Spinach salad loaded with too much pancetta and salad dressing. Grilled calamari appetizer was swimming in a dish of oil and garlic water. Salmon ordered rare came very well done. Outdoor setting is lovely. Live music (saxophone player) was amplified and too loud. Somewhat pricey. We had 1 appetizer, 1 salad, 1 entree and two glasses of house wine came to $84.00
