About Casa Romero
After 40 years, my customers still tell me what a delightful discovery it is to step out of a Boston alley and into the heart of Mexico. That is exactly what I had envisioned when I decorated the coffered door and walls of my restaurant with the bright Talavera tiles from Puebla, Mexico. Casa Romero is located in the midst of glamorous Back Bay at 30 Gloucester and offers the best traditional Mexican food in Boston.

Casa Romero Ratings and Reviews
We went for New Year’s Eve the second year in a row. We had a slightly better experience the first time, as we had a much more upbeat waiter last year. This year we sat in a quiet back room and I don’t think our waiter smiled once. Ever. That was disappointing. But the food and atmosphere are always good.
We visit this restaurant often. We had a fun, enjoyable meal with friends. Casa Romero has very good drinks - margaritas of various kinds.
One glitch - the restaurant claims that they no longer use OpenTable and have switched to a different reservation service - however, they did find us a table even though it was Friday evening.
We have been dining at Casa Romero for almost 50 years! It continues to be a favorite. The margueritas, chips and salsa are a perfect way to start. This week we followed that with the chicken with cilantro and the pork with orange and chipotle. Both are always superb, but so is every other item on the menu. Eating on the patio in back adds to the magic. Enjoy.
I'm new to Boston and I needed somewhere to go for my first date with a young lady I met . We wanted Mexican and decided on this place. I was slightly nervous for my date and she ended up being an hour late because of traffic in which time I talked to the bartender and the host (both really friendly people who kinda calmed my nerves a little ) . The bartender made me some Mexican coffee which was awesome . When my date finally arrived an hour late our table was still reserved and we went right in. We ordered some margaritas which were very good and we got some guacamole and some kind of beef quesadilla. For dinner I got a shrimp dish that the host recommended and oh my god I'm glad she did because it was so good . Service was good, place was nice and clean and it's not too pricey at all. 2 apps , 4 drinks and 2 dinners ran me 120.oo including the 25.oo tip I left . Definitely worth it and I can't wait to go back soon .
I really enjoyed the food and drinks at Casa Romero. I honestly would have given this restaurant a higher rating had it not been for the way the evening ended. I was a table of 5 that had just paid the bill (in all, our bill was about $300) and our waiter quickly cleared everything out of the way, including water glasses. Before we even had a chance to finish up our conversation, the manager came over and asked us if we could vacate the table so they could seat additional guests. We felt it was quite rude to rush us out so quickly especially considering there were multiple empty tables surrounding us and it hadn't been more than a few minutes since we signed our check. Had that not happened, I would have really enjoyed this location but because of that, I'm not 100% sure I would go back right away. It just didn't sit right with us.
Not worth the cost. This is the second time I went to this place and I will not be going back. My wife got the quesadilla for 14 bucks at it looked like a kids meal. No sides to come with it and a pretty tiny quesadilla. Somehow we spend 85$ and left disappointed. That was with out ordering any drinks as well. Pricing and not worth it. Food was fine but about as good as a a run of the mill Mexican spot.
I was looking for a nice restaurant to have my birthday dinner in. I found the menu options wonderful for just about any Mexican recipe I had in mind. The preparation and presentation are wonderful. The portions are good. If you might [not likely] think the portion small, I think that the richness and expert seasoning of the recipes would probably discourage you from wanting more. I can easily say that I want a Mexican meal in the future I would definitely return to this restaurant.
We were put in a back room -- private and quiet; so quiet we were forgotten and had to track down servers, ask for water....
I'm hoping it was an off-night, but the service and meals were not what we were expecting. My husband and I used to come here often and we were taking friends for their first time -- needless to say, we were disappointed that our meals and the service didn't match the charming Mexican decor.
I might give Casa Romero another chance as it was once a favorite.
