Had dinner there twice in a row! A hidden gem
The service, cocktails, appetizers, dinner and dessert were all outstanding! I can see why Boston Magazine rated them as the #1 Mexican Restaurant in Boston! We enjoyed the entire experience and cannot wait to return.
Charming very creative spin on Mexican dishes - service can be a little inattentive while waiting for menus, first drinks, and chips/salsa when you first get to your table. Hard to flag someone.
Casa Romero was excellent, as always. This is one of our favorite 'go to' neighborhood restaurants.
A bit upscale Mexican food, but still has the Tex Mex combinations and flavors.
A hidden little gem!!! Love this place .. everything you want from an evening out ! Service is excellent , cocktails amazing , Food amazing and delicious .. it’s my go to place when in Boston .. the decor is so cute and the extra bonus of a patio when the weather gets warm is delightful .. the staff are so efficient and very pleasant and fun !! I love this little hideaway down the lane off Newbury .. 😘
Very nice meal in a very nice setting!
food and drinks were delicious! Loved the extensive margarita menu, and authentic mexican food. My daughter-in-law is from Brazil and has very sophisticated tastes around Mexican and many other South American food. She wiped her plate clean! Love the small space, colors on the wall, and quiet - my husband and I and son and daughter-in-law went for Mother's Day, and while the restaurant was busy, we could still enjoy our private conversation. Love the art work and the quiet, small space off the alley after the hustle and bustle of the city. Very charming. Only downside is that it is more pricey compared to other Mexican food; we're happy to pay more for the atmosphere.
Food and staff are great. Thanks for a very tasty Dinner.
What a disappointing experience. The food was uninspired. The restaurant did not honor the Early Bird Special even though we ordered well before 6pm. The food was TREMENDOUSLY overpriced (e.g. $4.50 for a kid's milk, $8.75 for a scoop of guacamole, $23.50 for a taco "dinner" that only included 2 tacos!). This place must survive on tourist traffic alone because I can't imagine anyone who would want to come back for mediocre Mexican food at a four star price. If Romero lived in this casa, he would definitely dine out!
We were really disappointed with the food. The beans seemed to have sat under the a heat lamp, then a bit of cheese unmelted was placed on top of it. The vegetarian enchilada was not very good, and delivered without the sour cream on the side as requested. Both my wife's and my meals were mediocre, and certainly not worth the price point. We also thought it was odd that they employ the european way of collecting the bill by making you fill out the tip with the electronic device that they hand to you and wait for you to fill in. Plus, after mediocre food and just okay service, they only offered a 20% and maybe 18% option for a tip, when for this kind of experience 15% was more than sufficient.
We had such a delightful time at Casa Romero for Mother's Day! Everything was perfect. At first it seemed as though it might be too noisy, but then the large party beside us left and we had much of the dining room to ourselves. (they have several cozy dining areas, making this possible) A wonderful unhurried time to catch up with our adult children over fabulous food and drinks. (And the all-important photos came out great due to the interesting tiled walls and decor.) Loved everything about it!
Best Margharitas! Loved the atmosphere and service was excellent.
I love this place. Great atmosphere and great food. Make a great Margarita too. My only complaint in this last trip was but I tried to change my meal order just after ordering before my waiter left the section and was told it was too late. Dinner was still good but it would have been nice for my request to be accommodated.
We have always loved Casa Romero ever since our first visit which was more than 20 years ago. We had walked in for dinner on a busy Saturday night and did not have a reservation. The place was hopping and it was full. The lovely, older gentleman at the desk went out of his way to put together a table for us. He basically created one for us. We will never forget his kindness and hospitality. We love the food and the staff. Best Mexican restaurant in our opinion! The food is done just perfectly, no heavy sauces and no overdose of food.
This is a really lovely restaurant, beautiful decor and it’s very small and intimate. Our waiter Ernesto was lovely. But the standout was the steak tacos. I could eat those everyday, they were DELICIOUS, and the reason I will be back. Also had yummy guac and margaritas, and the chicken flautas were just okay.
Casa Romero was a complete delight. The food was not only delicious, flavorful, and authentic but our server, Ernesto, was awesome! We felt so completely taken care of and the drinks were damn good too. Can’t recommend this place enough. We went for lunch thinking we needed to order just off the lunch menu but they let us order off the full menu if we wanted. We were the first big group to enjoy lunch on a Friday!
Food is excellent and authentic. I love that portions aren’t gross huge, as Mexican can be heavy. Stand outs were chicken taquitos and chili relleno appetizers.
Service excellent, efficient and available. We were out in an hour and not rushed.
Space is beyond charming - tiny gem in alley between Newbury and Comm ave on Gloucester. I’ve lived in Boston my whole life and always wanted to try this place-finally after over 30 years, I’ve tried it and plan on making up for lost time.
Place is tiny, so you may be on top of neighboring diners, so maybe not best date spot or of you want any privacy.
Only rub, so
Good but very expensive for what it is
Food was overpriced and not that great. It's similar to the quality you'd expect at a chain restuarant. They also wouldn't make any mixed drink that didn't contain tequila.
What a find! The food was excellent and the atmosphere and service were just as good. We will be back!
Didn’t like the food, left half way through the meal.
Amazing hidden gem with awesome food and service - definitely recommend!
Excellent food and service, noise level after seven when the customers rolled in was disturbing
Great place for a relaxed evening--good food, good ambience!
We always enjoy our time there. The food is delicious it’s a great atmosphere but, the service is a little slow. Not bad, just slower than I’d like. Everyone is pleasant and helpful. I would and do recommend eating here to all my friends and family.
Dependable always! Great food, service, fun local eatery.
Great Mexican food, authentic atmosphere. Fun night out with friends. One of our favorites for over 20 years
Food was fine, but not exceptional. The noise level was so loud it was difficult to talk.
Food was great! Definitely worth it if you want Mexican food that's authentic. Unfortunately, the service was not all there. Seems like the waiter didn't want to be present as he spoke in a monotone, annoyed voice the whole time, making the experience awkward. I really didn't want to disturb him. I guess it all depends on who you get in order to see if your experience is worth it.
Delicious authentic Mexican food in the heart of Back Bay, if you're looking for a delicious Mexican meal with the right amount of spice and flavor, Casa Romero truly delivers. It's a bit pricey but worth it for the quality of food you get.
Great ambiance. The food prep has changed but the prices haven’t! Fresh ingredients no longer are used in the signature pork dish, and it’s just not worth the $25 price tag.
Service was excellent, food was very good, portions on the smaller side. Lots of selections on the menu, drink variety was excellent as well.
The food is delicious and the service is crisp at Casa Romero. A lovely place to dine with colleagues or friends.
Food and service were awesome but we had a really hard time finding it at night.
Very very goof food and service
Only a little bit noisy in the main room
Loved our servers. Food was delicious
Went here for my birthday dinner and it was fantastic! The sangria and enchiladas were particularly delicious. Highly recommend!
Seems like portions have gotten smaller and more expensive!I am not one to complain out to eat but how can you have an entire "Vegetarian" section on your menu and have no vegetarian rice when is supposably comes with??? 2 soft tacos and a very small scoop of beans for $18.00??
