After 40 years, my customers still tell me what a delightful discovery it is to step out of a Boston alley and into the heart of Mexico. That is exactly what I had envisioned when I decorated the coffered door and walls of my restaurant with the bright Talavera tiles from Puebla, Mexico. Casa Romero is located in the midst of glamorous Back Bay at 30 Gloucester and offers the best traditional Mexican food in Boston.

The food was amazing!
Overall, a very good meal. Service was a bit slow at times. The ghost mango margarita lacked any real heat for what I expected. Food was okay. The guacamole was pretty tasty. The carne asada was average. Mole sauce was pretty decent. Cochinita pibil was excellent!
My wife and I dined here for our 3rd anniversary. She requested it as she has been several times over the years. Excellent experience - ghost mango margarita, superb food, quaint and adorable decor.
I love Casa Romero. Within seconds of sitting (ok maybe not seconds) we had chips and drinks to enjoy while we looked at the menu. The carne asada was maybe the I’ve had in the life. Plus, it’s super romantic.
Food was average. Good atmosphere tho. Good drinks.
Food was excellent. There were three in our party and we each had a different kind of Taco. All excellent.
Waiter offered to bring 'salsa, chips and guac' to the table as we were being seated. Usually that kind of offer is on-the-house but it was charged $13.50. Was very tasty and a substantial portion but it should have been clear that it was to be a purchased item.
The menu at the restaurant doesn't match the Open Table menu so that's a little confusing.
For dessert we shared a tres leches cake which I'd highly recommend.
The noise level in the dining room was a bit high for my taste and some of that was the music that could have been turned down a bit.
All in all it was a very nice evening out. Food was absolutely the best. My second time there and will definitely be back.
Service was off during our second visit and a little slow. We love the ambiance and the food was good. Very cozy atmosphere too. We will come back since it’s a neighborhood gem
We were disappointed no flan was available
The food it's good, but they need more people attending the tables. Also, the serve too small amount of the food and they are overpriced.
Excellent food and charming service!
The dinner was excellent and was great value. The only problem was that the appetizers did not come until a table seated behind us which had arrived after us had finished their meal and we’re ready to leave. The hostess could not have been more pleasant and more supportive of us.
Everything was delicious. Guacamole was so good we had to order a second. Service was a little slow.
Overall it was very good; the staff was attentive and did a fantastic job. Food was good. I’d expect to go back even though it was a bit of an older crowd
Delicious food and great margaritas
Great food and the woman at the front was the best! My cute waiter who made sure my margarita was perfect made the experience even better. Casa Romero is a little gem.❤️
Had our first date at Casa Romero 19 years ago. We go back every few years, but had heard that the quality had declined. I'm happy to report that it was excellent. Will return again in the future. Glad they survived the pandemic.
I really liked the location and interior of Casa Romero but the food was not very good. I got chicken flautas and the chicken was extremely dry and not very flavorful. It also didn't come with any salsa, sour cream, or guacamole to dip in which I've never experienced with flautas before. My husband got steak tacos and the steak was very poor quality, overcooked, and also not very flavorful. The sangria tasted more like juice than wine or any other alcohol.
What a fabulous restaurant! When I lived in Boston 30 years ago it was a favorite of mine. So thrilled to see it is still open and just as fabulous as it was then! Love this restaurant. The best Mexican food ever, fantastic ambiance and friendly staff - a perfect experience! Thank you Casa Romero!
First time back since the pandemic started, and I was pleasantly surprised that everything was as good as usual. The music was a little louder than I remember, and I’d recommend that they dial it down a notch.
Favorite Mexican spot! Incredible food & service!
Always great food and drinks with super service.
Always a great evening. Service is so fun. Atmosphere and food always just what you’re in the mood for. Nice patio seating out back now. Highly recommend, it’s not fancy but really great
server and hostess were awesome - drinks were fantastic and location is ideal - perfect summer night spot!
We love the atmosphere and personal attention as well as the wonderful food. thank you so much for being our bridge back to in-person dining!!!!
Meh - this seems like it would have been one of Boston's top Mexican restaurants 20 years ago. Compared to newer restaurants like Loco Taqueria, the food lacks flavor: like literally isn't seasoned. Even the salsa didn't have a kick to it - seems like it's geared towards Newbury clientele who think they like Mexican food but only if it is first adapted to the older New England palate. Staff was very pleasant, the space is nice, the label gluten free items clearly - it just needs... salt? Pepper?
Some of the better mexican food that I have had in the Boston area. The service was good as it was very busy but food was delivered on time. People had previously commented on the noise level in the restaurant and I took a chance because I wanted to try Casa Romero. They were not kidding about the noise level in the restaurant. It was to the point where it was difficult to talk to the people sitting around the table. While the food was very good, I would only go back if I could sit outside because of how loud it was.
Lovely spot down a little side alley off of Newbury Street shopping district. Staff was cheerful and friendly, food was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend the shrimp fajitas. Best dish I've had in a very long time. Margaritas were excellent. The single dessert offering was delicious. Noise level (music) was quite loud in the middle dining area, but we asked to be moved to a side area and there it was fine. Overall this was one of my best dining experiences in years.
Service was alittle slow. The drinks were perfect and delicious. The menu was pretty limited and we really felt like there wasn’t much to choose from. The steak tacos were just okay. The steak at Taco Bell tasted better. The fish we ordered was very fishy though plentiful. It was tough for us the finish the fish because it tasted fishy and not fresh. Chips and salsa were very good. I would go back for drinks and chips and salsa.
The best Mexican in Boston by FAR
Best little Gem of a restaurant down the alley. Never knew it was there..and so glad I do now. Will definitely be back for more!!
Casa Romero has been my favorite restaurant since the 1980's. It offers the best margaritas in the world, coupled with genuine, high quality Mexico City cuisine. The service is always attentive.
Staff was friendly and accommodating. Food good. Worth acte
Love Casa Romero. Staff are attentive and so friendly and the food is so delicious!!!
Super cute, colorful unexpected hideaway. A little loud but fun
The atmosphere is so amazing! Hidden gem in the city!
Nicole the manager is A+++...always engaging, thoughtful and all around great at her job!!
Food was delicious and staff was friendly. Fantastic experience and can’t wait to go back!
The food was great! We especially enjoyed the Verde and Mole Chicken Enchiladas and the shrimp in diablo sauce. The service was terrific and offered a pleasant dining experience.
LOVED Casa Romero. The food was excellent, as was the service thanks to Andrea. The menu was not too lengthy and it pays off with the chef making everything really, really well. Can’t say enough, HIGHLY recommended!!
We have been enjoying Casa Romero for 30 years. It never disappoints. It is always excellent.
