After 40 years, my customers still tell me what a delightful discovery it is to step out of a Boston alley and into the heart of Mexico. That is exactly what I had envisioned when I decorated the coffered door and walls of my restaurant with the bright Talavera tiles from Puebla, Mexico. Casa Romero is located in the midst of glamorous Back Bay at 30 Gloucester and offers the best traditional Mexican food in Boston.
with Guacamole, Sour Cream & Pico de Gallo
Café Casa Romero
The perfect after dinner coffee with Café de Olla, Brandy, Kahlúa,whipped cream & a dusting of cinnamon
Grilled Sirloin Steak served on Caramelized Onions and Tomatoes Garnished with a Chicken Enchilada, Guacamole & Plantains
I remembered this restaurant from a previous trip, and it was good. Highlights: chicken enchiladas with mole and the fresh guacamole. Margaritas excellent too.
One would expect fajitas to be sizzling, but not here. They serve all ingredients in one bowl, and cheese is $2.50 extra!
Fun vibe, if you are under 40 and heterosexual. We totally felt unaccepted as a gay couple. This is not a restaurant for Backbay.
Just minutes after being seated (at a table that was literally elbow-distance from two other tables), the guests next to us had cockroaches crawling on the wall and on their table. We left.
Great service great food
Super fun vibe
Always a gem of an experience at Casa Romero! Never disappoints.
The food really wasnt good. The guac was the best thing we ordered. Overall, it is very crowded and noisy could barely talk.
Food is delicious! Tables are pretty close together though.
It is always a treat for me to visit this restaurant when I am in town. The staff is so nice and accommodating, our waiter Jose was lovely and went out of his way for us.
I had a difficult time locating the restaurant. Keep an eye out for the sign on the building and proceed to the alley way. Look for a door which seems like a secret passage to Hogwarts. I was utterly surprised of the beautiful murals. The tables were closely together and I felt like I was intruding on the table next to me. It was difficult to hear my colleagues over the loud music. This chips & salsa aren’t FREE. I wanted to try their pozole soup but it was cancelled. Then I proceeds to order the caramelos aka a steak quesadilla and baked cheese with Mexican chorizo. I have to say both dishes was delicious but wished the baked cheese came with chips and not tortilla. My order of a pineapple jalapeño margarita was good but hoped it was a bit more spicer.
We had a 630 reservation. We were out for a walk, and were passing the restaurant to see if we could vent seated early. We were politely brought to our table an hour before our reservation. Very friendly staff. The food was very good. Good value.
We haven’t been there for years. Nothing has changed. It’s still so romantic, so delicious and such a wonderful, robust Mexican experience. Will be regulars again!
The food was absolutely fantastic and when we arrive the dining room was packed.
Absolutely loved our meal! Great drinks (margaritas and sangria), the chips and guac was terrific (love a crunchy homemade chip!) and the enchiladas were delish. Churros were very good. Super festive and fun and great, attentive service. The staff was masked but the tables were very close to each other, if that's a concern. Can't wait to go back--our new go-to Mexican in Boston!
A great neighborhood gem restaurant for high quality Mexican food. Enjoyed a casual meal of enchaladas and margaritas... and friendly service at the bar.
I took myself out on a date to my favorite Mexican restaurant in Boston. Had a great time reconnecting to the food from my home and enjoyed some tequilas and micheladas.
Casa Romero is a hidden gem. I’ve probably walked by this restaurant several times without even realizing. The restaurant is extremely cute with a lively (sometimes loud) atmosphere. The margaritas are stellar and the food was excellent. Highly recommend
The noise level was unpleasant. We asked to have the music lowered and they shut off the speaker that was above our table.
They have outdoor dining but apparently no heaters. A pity. Perhaps it is more relaxing and tranquil outside. Even with the music volume lowered inside, the acoustics are not good.
My husband and I have been coming to Casa Romero for years. It is such a charming restaurant in Back Bay. The margaritas are great and sitting at the bar is one of the best seats in the house. Great food and vibe.
We are big fans of this restaurant. Pre pandemic and now, the staff is welcoming and the food is great.
Very nice evening. Good drinks, food and atmosphere
We’ve been coming to here at least twice a year since 2007 and have always had a great experience. A solid, consistent classic, tasty Mexican menu. The mole is to outstanding and always fresh.
The music was way too loud, but the hostess very politely turned it down for us. My main complaint is that the food had no flavor - there was no salt in anything (even the Margarita, which I had ordered salted, came with about three grains).
I've noticed this at other places recently. Is this a new thing? Is it politlcal somehow?
Food was delicious! Service was phenomenal. I highly recommend it.
Delicious mexican/mayan food. Ceviche and tilipia were delicious. wonderful decor and ambience. Busy on Friday nite so service was a little slow and parking was a challenge. Would recommend and return.
Good food and alcohol. Definitely a bit overpriced.
Disappointed that menu has gotten smaller as have the potions though continues to be tasty. Drinks continue to be very good. Wait staff is polite and friendly and attentive
All was perfect. The music volume could be a little lower but that’s personal preference.
Cochinita pibil was amazing!!
One of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to. The ambiance is great although a little noisy. Service and food are excellent.
Little expensive but everything was perfect
Loved everything about this place. From the easy-to-miss door in the alley, the indoor decor, great service, really good tuna tacos and fun atmosphere, it hit all the right notes. Definitely will be going back.
Excellent food and great service. We were celebrating a birthday and the restaurant put the Happy Birthday song. Highly recommended.
The food selection was great. Drinks were really good and the service was terrific.
Loved the ambiance! Reminded me of the Mexican restaurants I visited in Chicago. Service was wonderful and quite rapid! Portion sizes were small when it came to the rice and beans but delicious!
My favorite restaurant in Boston. I live 2 blocks from it and try to go as often as I can. This is the best true Mexican food in the city with fantastic margaritas. Their puerco adobado is incredible. Who knew those combination of flavors would go together to create such ambrosia.
Amazing food and drinks
Amazing food and great service. Drinks are delicious too! Hidden little gem.
I’ve been dining at Casa Romero for about 30 years and have only positives to describe it. Service, food, ambiance and value have always been very good. The atmosphere is warm and feels like home.
They were out of guacamole and fish tacos. It’s like an Italian restaurant out of pasta.
The food was good though.
