Casa Romero is a favorite neighborhood restaurant for us. We love the choices of the upscale Mexican dishes that still have the Tex/Mex feel to them. The staff is wonderful and they always remember us, even if we haven't been for a while.
After having not been to Casa Romero for a very long time, my wife and I were looking forward to our return. We left disappointed. The food was good but not very creative, certainly not delicious. Service was adequate. I was shocked that, if we wanted more salsa or chips, we had to pay extra. To start they give you a tiny little bowl of salsa for two people. About the size of a teacup. Shame on them. Margaritas were good, again nothing fantastic, but we paid $13 and $14 for them. The flan for dessert tasted like it had been in the fridge for way too long with a significant aftertaste of orange and cinnamon. Way too much. Anyway, we tried it and I can't imagine going back. I guess you can't go home again
Very tasty food, nice little hidden gem location in a lovely Back Bay neighborhood. Food is very tasty but portions a little small for the price (but I would imagine the rent is outrageous in that prime location, so that's probably why it's a little expensive for the fare). Great atmosphere, especially in the pretty little patio out back. Has been around forever, and I hope it continues to stay open ... Boston is losing too many of its longtime establishments, and Casa Romero is one of them! One tip -- don't shy away from dining here if there is nothing available on OpenTable. When I booked my reservation it seemed like I took the one and only slot available within a window of a few hours. The place was practically empty when I arrived, though, so when in doubt, give a call to see if they are as busy as the OpenTable reservation scarcity would suggest.
Perfect night with friends on the patio! Fantastic food and great service. Will keep coming back!!
5$ coke is a bit abusive. Gauc very good. Ceviche (fish) fresh bit bland. Veg tamale was good but not very appetizing looking. Chicken fajitas dry. Overall ok for the area but won't come back unless I have too.
The food was delicious and the staff was kind and welcoming.
Everything about this restaurant is superb, from the food to the waitstaff to the hostess to the ambiance. I keep coming back again and again and recommend it to everyone I know who visits our fair city!
We hadn’t been to Casa Romero for probably thirty years. We remembered that it was tucked away down an alley, so we found it easily, and the timeless decor took us back to good times we’d had there with old friends. We spend a few weeks every winter in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, and the food prepared at Casa Romero is truly fine Mexican cuisine that one seldom can obtain beyond Mexican borders. We had a unique salad with Mexican veggies and a native dressing and two mole dishes that could have been cooked in a local kitchen in Oaxaca. Simply delicious. Our Boston friends whom we brought along with us said, “We never heard of this place, and we would have never found it. How do you know about it?” We explained that it was a favorite spot of our dead friend from Chicago who loved gourmet food, and he’d come to Casa Romero whenever his business travels found him in Boston.” We’ll be back, and I suspect you’ll see our local Boston friends soon.
We love Casa Romero and were there 23 years ago! That is what brought us back and we were so happy that we did because it was exactly the same as it was in 1996! The food was over the top good and we love the atmosphere in the restaurant. Our service was top notch and we can hardly wait to come back to Boston and visit Casa Romero again!
The service was good . The 3 small pork carnitas were excellent. My husband had the enchiladas and her said they were good . Drawback was tables were very close together and was a bit noisy the night we went. However, I would go again but my husband would not .
Casa Romero is the best Mexican restaurant in Massachusetts, hands down. There is no event too minor nor too large that you should celebrate here!
The food is incredible. Outdoor area is nice, but inside is nice too
Easy location and the food was delicious! 5 people with app, dinner, drinks and dessert with tip split evenly about $50 person.
Service was horrible and food so over priced. Food was average at best.
Good food and really fun ambiance but the waiter offered us guacamole without mentioning that it was 9 dollars?? At the end of the night they do electronic payment so you can’t even review the bill so it sort of feels like they’re just trying to take your money. Overall a good place but service should be more up front.
Great place. Excellent food. Terrific service
The service was terrific, and certain dishes were outstanding:
The ceviche was fresh, tangy, full of flavor-- I would recommend that, any time. The tamale with huitlacoche was also really good. The house specialty was disappointing-- a pork with chipotle and orange sauce seemed to have been modified for a gringo palate-- much too sweet, and missing the smoky bite of the chipotles.
The pastel de tres leches was a bit of a mystery to me, served in a ramekin and did not resemble others that I have had. It was more of a pudding than a pastel.
Very good ambiance! Drinks were excellent as well. I did not have the best meal but I think I just personally didn’t enjoy it. I’ll try the fajitas next time!
Good service and vibe. Bit pricy for the food though..
Had a delicious elote salad with shrimp. Waiter was friendly and helpful. He did not rush us.
Lovely seating in courtyard, friendly service, delicious/unusual food, and sweet tucked-away location. A great choice to meet visiting colleagues for a respite from meetings at Hynes Convention Center.
Really mediocre food, high prices
Have been going here for years. New menu leaves a lot to be desired. Noise level prohibits conversation.
The setting was great, the atmosphere lovely and oof was fantastic. Very noisy. Intermittent service. Would recommend based on food.
While I really liked the ambiance of Casa Romero and it's a nice escape from Back Bay, the food was just ok and the drinks were mediocre. The plantain enchiladas were fair but their 'perfect' margarita and my friends' drinks tasted watered down.
Always great. I’ve had no better mole since I lived in San Antonio.
Fast food, drinks, and staff anywhere! Pineapple jalapeño margarita!
Went to this little gem while a graduate student over 40 years ago. Hasn't changed much. Always loved the back alley location. For Boston, pretty good Mexican food. Good guacamole, good moles. Had to wait a few times to get our cervezas, but no big deal.
Our service was the only part that needed improvement. I loved the entrance and vibe of the restaurant. I also loved the menu and taste of the food. We had slow service and not super friendly. It was my birthday and I would have liked something done like a song or cake? I also did not like that there was not a kid menu?
Wonderful experience. Great staff from entering to exiting. Great food. Highly recommend
It was a centric Mexican food. Service was excellent. Food was delivered very very quickly. Pretty cool place
The food was great. The only issue we had was the AC didn’t work so it was incredibly hot inside the restaurant.
I remember this restaurant being better but it’s sadly gone a bit downhill over the years.
Loved the fresh cucumber martini and the unique flavor of the signature dish.
It was quiet and nice. The only thing was the hours of the restaurant, I had to go through a lot of "closed" days before I actually visited it. Would love to try other dishes there.
Casa Romero is a family favorite Boston restaurant. You can always count on wonderful food and ambience. My husband and I started going there in the early eighties when he was a resident at Mass General Hospital. Went every Friday night for 7 years. Since then, we have continued to recommend to family and friends and always visit when in Boston. 5 stars! Thank you for making our Mother’s 92nd Birthday so memorable.
Food was okay, very expensive for what you get.
I definitely would recommend Casa Romero to a friend but I would warn them about the tables being quite close and the noise level makes it very hard to hear (on a busy Friday night). But...great food and staff!
Very good mexican authentic restaurant
Fresh food well done
Service remains OK
A bit of a challenge to find at first. Pleasant staff and nice atmosphere. Food was OK.
Good mexican meals! Friendly staff!
