Casa Luca in Washington, D.C., offers guests a menu filled with rustic meals that reflect the traditional fare of the Marche region of Italy. The dining area is casual enough for a workday lunch, but elegant enough for a date night and the owners of Casa Luca work hard to ensure that everyone feels welcomed. All of the dishes served are meant to be shared among your party.
Begin your meal at Casa Luca with starters like cured meat and cheese platters, followed by main dishes like homemade pastas, seafood and meat dishes. Dessert at Casa Luca includes house made sorbet and gelato, as well as a refreshing glass of limoncello.
Trabocchi never disappoints! Food, service, cocktails were all excellent--that's why this is one of my favorite restaurants in DC, hands-down!
Food is great, as expected, but the bar is slow when you're already seated for dinner. It's better to order a pre-dinner cocktail from the bar and then get seated.
Waited 10 minutes after being seated for anyone to acknowledge out party. Main course arrived just moments after our salad arrived. We sent our main courses back to the kitchen. The manager apologized and said he would have something for us at the end of our meal, and then we never received any courtesy and never saw the manager again.
The food was very good, particularly the Summer Salad which was incredible. Service was warm and attentive. It was an expensive meal but a delicious one.
Great service, good food, no surprises but steady. Every dish is well executed.
The restaurant has pleasant employees and the food is good, but expensive, as a brunch.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening here. The wait staff were incredibly helpful. Our waiter recommended a wine only to find that they didn't have it in stock. The restaurant then suggested another wine and offered it to us at the same price as the one we'd selected. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. The noise level was very tolerable and ebbed as the Friday evening went on - a pleasant and uncommon surprise for a DC restaurant!
Service was outstanding, dessert was memorably delicious
This was our second experience with Casa Luca and it was not a disappointment. I think the service was even better the second time around and I especially appreciated the attention the staff gave to me on my birthday. I chose the salmon for dinner but due to the extremely hot weather my appetite which is normally robust was smaller due to the heat. I could not eat as much of the delicious meal as I would have like and no less the four people came to ask if I liked my salmon. It was perfect and I was a bit overwhelmed at the attention paid to me. The birthday card and cake was just wonderful and it was the perfect place to celebrate.
The food was fabulous. The service was spotty. Never refilled waters and tea and as soon as we were done with the entree, we were ignored. Took a long time to bring the check even after asking for it. And I expected the food to be expensive and it was worth it. But a $7 bottle water, esp. when it was "pushed" on us when they asked if we wanted ice water or sparkling water. Really?
We could have chosen any of the best restaurants in DC to celebrate our anniversary, including the two other wonderful restaurants in the Fiola family, but we chose Casa Luca based on our previous positive experiences there and the unique combination of relaxation and fine dining it offers. First, the food was wonderful, as one would expect from one of Fabio and Maria Trabocchi’s restaurants and Executive Chef Erin Clarke's hands. The unique take and presentation of their spicy chilled gazpacho was a great starter, as was the summer garden salad. That night we swerved away from our usual favorite shared course of their wonderful lobster and farrow salad to enjoy an equally tasty Tonno e Fagioli. We will have to alternate between these two from now on because both are memorable. Because it was a night to over-indulge, we split a pasta course of the chef's unique frutti di mare in Puttanesca sauce called Trenette of Smoked Paprika--and that spice figures boldly in the pasta itself, which makes for a wonderfully rich base for some fresh shrimp and clams. For the main course, I chose the Branzino al Forno while my wife went for the Wild Alaskan Ivory King Salmon, both of which were exceptionally well cooked and presented. Yes, we were slowing down and taking some leftovers home by then, but it was our anniversary so we soldiered on to a shared dessert. That night it was a slice of their Cioccoloto di Piemotese, a surprisingly light chocolate gianduja. Delightful! but no surprise, since all of Claudia Bruni's desserts we've shared there (and we've tried them all) have been memorable.
All this said, great as the meal was, the service stood just as tall. Sommelier RJ Arnold deftly and enthusiastically guided us through the formidable wine list and the servers were uniformly excellent.
Our seat beyond the bar area was ideal for an intimate evening. The food, the people and the place all delivered just what we wanted on a special night. Grazie mille!
We were really looking forward to experiencing Casa Luca but were deeply disappointed with the lack of service. Our server just disappeared and only made an appearance at the end. We had to wave other servers for orders, water, and our bill. The restaurant was not busy at all and the lack of attendance cannot be excused. They were all gathered in the backroom.
We were there at lunchtime on our anniversary, and they were very sweet to acknowledge that by bringing two glasses of pro secco to the table when we were seated. The service here is always great. Today it was excellent-- informative, attentive, but not intrusive.
We hit some gems on the menu. Hugely recommend the Lobster farro salad. Got it in an entree size, and it was perfect for a hot day. A rich farro salad made with a seafood broth and topped with lobster, balanced with lightly dressed micro greens.
The sangria was fantastic. For dessert -- If you want real cannoli made in-house, theirs is great. So many places fill up the cannoli equivalent of a store-bought ice cream cone and call it cannoli. Casa Luca makes their own shells, tops them with a little chocolate and a dusting of pistachio. It was fresh and very good.
Wonderful service and terrific food. Can't say enough!
We went for brunch for my birthday and they forgot my dessert. I received an apologetic call and a super kind offer to return. We went for dinner on my actual birthday and had an amazing meal. The manager & maitre D' came by to check on us & we had coffee, tea, 2 desserts PLUS a birthday dessert on them. They really went above and beyond. Other restaurants could learn a few things from them!
Food was ordinary, nothing special. Wondering if the chef had a night off. Expected much more from what I read about the restaurant.
I had been to Fiola and Fiola Mare several times but this was my first time at Casa Luca, definitely not the last one. The service was amazing which is always the place where I find a glitch. Not this time. The food was delicious as expected and they even accommodated my picky eater's needs. My branzino specially was cooked to perfection and better than any other I've had anywhere else. As usual in Fabio's restaurants the staff meets all of your needs and wants. And goes well beyond most of the time!
Just great food, interesting dishes and an overall great experience - cheers.
Awesome find! Food was delicious and refined (and I'm a picky eater), our 4 year old ate the best cheesy pasta ever (for free). We split a basket of warm pastry. The lemon curd pancake with warm strawberries is divine and the calamari with squid ink over poached eggs wonderful as well. The seating hostess spoke French to us, which was very much appreciated, and our server was friendly and efficient. Perfect for a special occasion since it's a little more than we would spend on casual eating.
The service was abysmal. The food was great.
The food was delicious. I had the branzino, which is always good - this time it was transporting. The best appetizer among our group's choices was, in my view, the burrata caesar salad, but the soft-shell crab "sandwich" was also outstanding. Desserts were also delicious - especially the bombolini - and light enough, although rich, to top off a terrific meal. Somehow, although the prices for individual items did not look particularly high when we were ordering from the menu, the ultimate tab was pretty high. But it was a delightful evening, worth the expenditure.
Hard to understand such a poor performance from a restaurant of this caliber. A beef tenderloin had to be sent back 4 times and still wasn't right. A pasta dish that was supposed to be just mussels and prawns (hold the calamari) came out full of octopus, an ingredient not mentioned on the menu. A caesar salad full of onions, also not identified on the menu. A waiter who disappeared after the steak went back the first time, as though we had done something wrong. In the end the steak was comped and free desert was offered, but that was far too little too late to save what had promised to be a beautiful evening of al fresco dining at a new outpost of a celebrity chef. Sad.
The food and service at Casa Luca is very good. The menu is quite limited with only 4 pasta and 2 meat selections, for example. The wine list is good. I expect to pay 2X retail for a good bottle of wine, however, the markup on most bottles here is 4X . When I mentioned this to the staff, they reduced the price to 3X retail, which I appreciated but it is still very high. Something to be aware of when choosing this location.
The food and service were great. Nice atmosphere too - warm but not stuffy. I ate there on a Friday night and it was easy to converse with my dinner partner even when the restaurant was full.
Delicious food, great service and good company.
This an excellent restaurant, either for lunch or dinner. It is not pretentious, but the service is impeccable and the food is beautifully prepared. The menu appears to be purposely shaped, so that the chef can really focus on the offerings of the day. The result is truly fine dining. I recommend Casa Luca with no reservations. This is a special restaurant.
This is an excellent restaurant with impeccable service. Although it was a bit loud, the food made us forget about the noise. The seed fruit salad was superb as was the monkfish. Desserts were delicious. Impressive cocktails and a solid wine list. We will be back for sure!
Excellent! The summer garden salad could easily be an entree. Very filling, yet light and full of flavor. The gnocchi was amazing--thanks for the recommendation. Great wine, great service. Definitely worth every penny and more!
Excellent food & wine list. Our only complaint was we felt rushed between our courses.
The most important thing here was Us server, César, was amazing, thank you so much!!!
I loved everything about Casa Luca. The service was great. I enjoyed my wine - an Italian Barbera. The bread and homemade breadsticks were a nice touch. Had the Meatballs Vergara as an appetizer and the Goat Cheese Ravioli for dinner - both were fantastic plus amazing presentation. Dessert was the Hazelnut coffee cake with chocolate hazelnut gelato. So impressed overall - this restaurant was the highlight of my vacation eating experiences!
My husband's birthday was last Sat., so he & I went with his sister & her husband; we all had a great time, we all really enjoyed the food, & the wine was also very good. The service was attentive & helpful, & while it was a little loud, we have no complaints at all. Because the restaurant knew it was my husband's birthday, they brought him a special dessert (in addition to the one he ordered!) so that was a very nice surprise. We had dined at Casa Luca a few years ago, & it was just as good this time, if not better, than the last time. Would definitely recommend to friends.
Best food and service in town
We selected Casa Luca for a get-together special dinner of far flung family members. We had a party of 7, and, without us knowing enough to ask, were given a small private dining room (that would probably seat 10) which made for a wonderful intimate ambiance that enabled easy conversation with the group including one hard of hearing elder. Service was impeccable. A short list of craft cocktails, excellent wine list. Recommend going heavy on the plates to share; they were excellent and outshone the regular entrees as a rule. Lobster farro salad was amazing, as was the beef carpaccio. Several good vegetarian options, including several pasta entrees. Very generous portions; almost all of us took home doggie bags. Overall excellent dining experience. If you have a group of 6 or more, be sure to ask for the private dining room!
I was taken here on a date and had a really wonderful time. The food was perfect, the drinks tasty and the ambience really added to the overall mood. One thing we didn't expect was how large the portions were! No complaints on that front, but I couldn't finish my food...
Took a colleague there to thank them for their help. Service was attentive yet we never felt pressured. Food was delicious. I also had a great "mocktail" as it was the middle of a business day. Highly recommend.
The service was great and the staff comped a dessert to celebrate my wife's birthday and made her feel special with a candle too. I was really pleased with our experience and the Ravioli was great.
we went there for brunch and had a great experience. great brunch food and bottomless mimosas.
Took my wife there with a couple of our good friends to celebrate her birthday. The food was certainly delicious, but the service was very underwhelming.
It definitely seemed like we were a very low priority for our waiter, which was weird considering that we weren't skimping. We ordered several appetizers, cocktails, and a bottle of wine. We would have ordered another bottle of wine if he had ever come back to check on us...Eventually I had to get the attention of another waiter to get our check.
Luckily the food was as advertised. Everything we ordered was really good, with the exception of my wife's seafood pasta (the shrimp was very overcooked). I had the smoked gnocchi and loved every single bite.
Overall it wasn't the experience I had in mine for my wife's birthday, but we still had a good time and enjoyed the food so I will give it a recommendation!
Casa Luca came highly recommended. We came here for a date night on a Friday and were seated at a nice corner booth. The wine list is substantial but expansive. The food was good but the service was poor. We were never offered any bread and our appetizer never arrived. Thankfully, the appetizer was also not on the bill so we avoided a potential fight. Would not come back here as there are plenty of other better options with better service for the price in DC.
