Carvers Steaks & Chops Ratings and Reviews
Everything was excellent but the food. My prime rib and potato arrived lukewarm, almost cool. I was hungry and proceeded to eat, but the taste and pleasure were affected. My fellow guests were more pleased. As host, I was disappointed that something so obvious and important as serving temperature was neglected.
A few friends suggested Carver’s Steakhouse. I have to say this was one of the best steaks I ever had. I chose the 14 oz Chicago cut ribeye, medium rare. It was cooked perfectly, juicy, and bursting with flavor. I would definitely go back. The accompanying port wine glaze was equally delicious.
Dinner is always good. When it is busy, service is more relaxed than typical. One of us ordered the small filet... perfect as always. The other took the special filet (bacon-wrapped, blue cheese and port wine reduction) -- steak ordered medium rare came out rare. Server returned to kitchen and brought it back medium... acceptable. Manhattans and martinis are shaken... so expect ice chips. We skipped dessert, and settled for coffee. A nice evening; always a favorite spot!
We were a party of three with a 1:00 reservation. Arrived fifteen minutes early and were promptly seated. Comfortable booth and quiet ambiance. Our waiter was attentive, without being a pest, and helpful with menu selections. The food and service were exceptional and we enjoyed a very relaxing lunch. An unexpected perk was the $15.00 Tuesday lunch special menu. A great value and a perfect luncheon portion. Looking forward to a return visit!
This was our second time at Carver's - as before the food was outstanding and the service by Rachel was excellent. The prime rib is outstanding and the standard cut was large enough to have a second meal the next day. The romaine salad is really good and was a real highlight for me.
When I return in the future I will ask to sit in the library - anywhere but the glassed dining area. We found our seating loud and made conversation for us "older people" difficult. Where we were seated an outside security light kept coming on (and staying on) and our server Rachel explained they are trying to do something about it - but my dinning partners were left staring into the light - very uncomfortable.
Also a little disappointing I indicated on our reservation that we were celebrating an anniversary Carver's did not acknowledge it.
The upside beside the outstanding food was our server Rachel - she was great. She was social when needed and professional with our order. Great having her for the evening!
This place is extremely consistent. Never had a bad meal here and have eaten here maybe 50 times over the last 10 years. Not gourmet, you have to try to ruin a steak, but they do a good job of what they do.
The location is in a retirement community that is full of tasteless restaurants, and in that location, they really stand out as exceptional.
Looks dreadful from outside. I thought it was closed for business. Super warm and cozy inside. Paneling fireplace just charming. Delicious food we had steak and lobster. Wonderful salads. Great cocktails. Super nice fun place! Great service! Bar is packed so people know about it but really nondescript to abandoned on outside! Much larger than it looks too.
Great food as usual, the whiskey peppercorn sauce is awesome, service was great too. Could do with a interior update but it very cozy. We have eaten here numerous times as it is a favorite, we even had our wedding reception here a few years back (we still get comments about how good it was from friends).
After having reservations for a week got put next to busing station and had to listen to plates being tossed about the whole evening. Wife ordered filet medium and it was raw in the middle, the baby back ribs were probably cooked in oven and then a couple of teaspoons of sauce spread on them and one steak had a lot of gristle. Needless to say no one in our family will be back
As always Carvers was fantastic. Seated immediately. Winter was there within minutes. Knew the wine list and menu and could offer suggestions. Good wine selection. Food was hot and cooked perfectly. Never had a bad meal at this restaurant in all the years we have been going here. Moved to Murrieta recently but still made the drive in. This is still my favorite restaurant in San Diego.
My go to for great food and service in the San Diego area. Saturday evening with Open Table reservation our table was waiting for us in a full house. My prime rib house cut cooked to perfection. Other members of my group had steaks and a huge rave for the baby back ribs. Service never disappoints it is constantly excellent. Unrushed dining experience. Full service bar and a better than average wine list. Reservations are a Must...ample parking. If it is your first visit use GPS to locate. Price per person without beverage is $50...
We had a round table for 5 which made it easy to have a conversation. We were able to get the early dining specials, so it was a good value for a steak and prime rib dinner. The filet was okay, but not a lot of flavor. Next time will get the New York cut. My husband enjoyed his Prime Rib. All in all a nice meal.
