Carson's Prime Steaks & Famous Barbecue - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Wasn't a huge fan, I made a reservation and stated it was my twins bday on the open table reservation-no one acknowledged that and when we arrived they said give us a few minutes we have to get your table ready and they were not even busy-it was Monday at 815pm. My daughter said the bathroom was gross and my son's ginger ale was watered down and had to be replaced (which I get it -it happens just trying to name everything that happened), I didn't get a friendly vibe from anyone really there. Not that there was bad service, but just wasn't the friendliest I've gotten. The food was pretty average, there was nothing that would make me dying to come back. Their fries pretty much stink. My daughters kid meal burger was good and the pulled pork sandwich. We had ribs and I've had a lot better. Small selection of appetizers and they're all 15 bucks and small unless you get corn bread or a soup. 1 crab cake is 15 dollars etc...That doesn't work well for a group or family. We went with two adults and 4 kids and they charged us the gratuity on the bill which I thought was odd, I've never had a restaurant do that if it was kids. Not that I wasn't going to tip her that amount anyways, but it kind of seemed like she was afraid to not get a good tip because we were a family or something like that. Like I said, I've never had any other restaurant add that on, but whatever. When we arrived I saw the parking lot and pulled in and parked and as we walked in the valet guy wanted our keys and said it's 12 bucks to park for valet which is a joke since the parking lot is literally right there and on the way out we had to look for him, he was outside sitting in a van. Kind of goofy because nothing seemed valet about it. The wine list isn't that amazing either. We tried it and aren't planning to go back. We like to eat out and try a lot of restaurants and this one just wasn't that great. I think if they made improvements, it could be better.
Carson's restaurant has been around for years. I started coming as a child with my parents. Now I bring my family. The food is excellent! I have started exploring the menu more. They have great ribs and pork chops, but my new favorites are the Mediterranean salmon and chicken. I also enjoy the cobb salad. The sides dishes are delicious as well. The bar serves great drinks. The servers are very friendly and helpful. I always enjoy my dining experience when I come with family or date night.
One of the best meals we’ve ever had hands down. Starting with my delicious coke slaw & her salad with Roquefort dressing that was top notch , My wife went with the ‘Prime’ strip charred & literally melted in your mouth. My ribs were perfect, excellent BBQ, & the augratin potatoes were a cheese blended masterpiece of a side dish.
This will go down as a top 5 meal all time for us.
Thank you Carson’s for such a memorable evening!
Haven't been to Carson's for years, but the food is even better than we remembered. We live in Michigan but were celebrating our anniversary in Chicago for the weekend, and decided to try Carson's again. So glad we did. Food was great and it was a lovely evening.
Carson's has been a favorite for years. The au gratin potatoes are a must, as well as the slaw. I skipped the ribs this time and ordered the shrimp (I think it was Mediterranean grilled shrimp, but not really sure.). They were excellent. Don't expect much in the way of food presentation....it's just good food, good service, and a fair price. We were there for a girlfriends dinner and they Kindly agreed to 8 separate checks. One friend was celebrating her birthday and they brought out a delicious complimentary dessert.
We've been going to Carson's for several years. It's become a tradition for my daughter and me. The staff genuinely makes you feel like family and welcome and we always enjoy seeing JoJo, our regular server. We can't recommend the food and service enough. It's a fantastic place , with top notch food and service, and we have many great memories from visiting.
I booked this during a holiday trip to Chicago as it was a short walk from our hotel. It's a family-type restaurant with a very wide ranging menu not just steaks . The food is excellent and served in large portions. We were very well looked after by our waiter and enjoyed the quieter atmosphere even though the place was fairly busy.
Although we were only four, Carsons charged us for a large group @ 20% tips. I complained and they apologized, saying it was an error. My wife ordered Prime Rib and they came up with the excuse that the machine cooking Prime Rib overnight was broken. There was absolutely no one in this restaurant. Barbecue ribs were dry. A disaster meal. They seem to have lost their customers. Really bad experience. Hearing us speak a foreign language with two Foreign friends, the waiter overcharged us and sneaked in an extra 20% for "large party" of 4 !!!!! No a way to do business. We will not go anymore
