Carson's Prime Steaks & Famous Barbecue - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Carson's has been a favorite for years. The au gratin potatoes are a must, as well as the slaw. I skipped the ribs this time and ordered the shrimp (I think it was Mediterranean grilled shrimp, but not really sure.). They were excellent. Don't expect much in the way of food presentation....it's just good food, good service, and a fair price. We were there for a girlfriends dinner and they Kindly agreed to 8 separate checks. One friend was celebrating her birthday and they brought out a delicious complimentary dessert.
We've been going to Carson's for several years. It's become a tradition for my daughter and me. The staff genuinely makes you feel like family and welcome and we always enjoy seeing JoJo, our regular server. We can't recommend the food and service enough. It's a fantastic place , with top notch food and service, and we have many great memories from visiting.
I booked this during a holiday trip to Chicago as it was a short walk from our hotel. It's a family-type restaurant with a very wide ranging menu not just steaks . The food is excellent and served in large portions. We were very well looked after by our waiter and enjoyed the quieter atmosphere even though the place was fairly busy.
Although we were only four, Carsons charged us for a large group @ 20% tips. I complained and they apologized, saying it was an error. My wife ordered Prime Rib and they came up with the excuse that the machine cooking Prime Rib overnight was broken. There was absolutely no one in this restaurant. Barbecue ribs were dry. A disaster meal. They seem to have lost their customers. Really bad experience. Hearing us speak a foreign language with two Foreign friends, the waiter overcharged us and sneaked in an extra 20% for "large party" of 4 !!!!! No a way to do business. We will not go anymore
We go here several times a year for the EXCELLENT Service, the reliably delicious food and sides. The portions always allow leftovers! I know that the ribs are the main meal that people come here for but I love their steaks!! However I am never disappointed!! Thank you!
Carson's has always been one of my favorite restaurants. Most of its staff, including some of the waitresses and its friendly bartender, have been there since it opened. From the fall off the bone ribs and huge, tender pork chops to the au gratin potatoes and the skillet corn bread, you can eat until your hearts content and bring the rest home for lunch the next day. They are known for their delicious coleslaw which is served with each meal. Tall, large booths that are great for talking and TVs on the walls perfect for watching the game. It doesn't get better than this.
BOY OH BOY!!! I have been sleeping on Carson's. I never went when I lived one block away, but today (9/27/2017), I decided to treat myself for my birthday. And I could not have been happier. From the moment I stepped in until I left, I was treated beautifully even though no one knew why I was there.
My server was pleasant and very helpful. She saw to it I got what I wanted and got it piping hot. She was even understanding when I explained my financial dilemma (had the money in my account when I arrived at the restaurant but had an unexpected bill come through that took most of what I had. Was blessed a friend was able to send me enough to cover.)
As for the food - AWESOME. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. It was cooked to perfection. I normally would have had a doggie bag but it was all so good I ate it all, including my dessert - Tiramisu. All I had to take home was half the cornbread.
I cannot wait to go back there!!!
I've been dining at Carson's for years but this last time I was there for my birthday celebration along with 23 others who joined me, and my service was terrible and when I complained to the manager she brushed me off and my brother and daughter caught her frowning at me as I walked away...They definitely need to follow up on their servers with their poor customer service... As always the food was great...
At Carson's, the food is all about large portions for a great price -- without letting go of quality. From homemade corn bread to BBQ baby back ribs, your hands might get dirty but your stomach will be happy. No matter what, make sure to leave room for dessert. There's key lime pie, chocolate cake, and the not-to-be-missed "Gold Brick," which is vanilla ice cream coated in a chocolate pecan shell and topped with fresh whipped cream.
