This was our first time dining at Carson’s restaurant. It was very good. We ate outside and enjoyed the meal and the setting.
It was Restaurant Week so the place was packed and not enough staff. Wait-time was too long. We were celebrating a special occasion but were disappointed that the service was poor. They needed more kitchen help since they had party groups as well.
Our server Jon was great, very attentive, helpful and accommodating. He and all the staff made the experience outstanding
Decent food, friendly but slow service. Did well accommodating our large group.
We eat here frequently and tonight was an off night. My sole was fishy tasting so I returned it. Manager came over and offered new meal. But, even though they are open until 11:00 pm they started flashing overhead lights, turned on the lights and waitress cashed us out at 9:15. Our reservation was for 7:30 so we left at 9:30 and finished the evening elsewhere.
Brussel sprouts appetizer then sauteed white fish with mushrooms were great.
We were celebrating a Birthday, the food was delicious and the opening time was perfect for us and our needs on this particular day. A special Thanks to our Waitress Melanie, she was wonderful!
Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. Both of our entrees were tasty and generous.
The Mother’s Day brunch was really disappointing. I’ve experienced much better Bloody Mary bars at much lesser establishments. The food was meh. Only a slight step up from any other breakfast buffet at a Big Boy or similar. But the most disappointing part was the deserts that appeared to have been picked up at the grocery store. There was even a cobbler in a small tin, like 6” or so, like you see at the grocery store bakery area. For what is otherwise a great restaurant, it felt like Mother’s Day brunch was hobbled together at the last minute.
The server however was fantastic. Very friendly, and helpful to my wife, who’s a vegetarian. She insisted I leave a normal tip +, not a buffet tip.
Carson's is a great restaurant, with a very attentive staff and cozy feel. Mothers Day Brunch not so great. The food was lackluster and frankly disappointing. We have been there on other occasions and every thing was up to par. Just not on Mothers Day. Sorry...... We will return though.
Mother's Day brunch. They were unable to keep up with clean plates, and they oftentimes had dried-on food. They didn't keep up with a clean and full buffet. Over several trips, the trays were empty, or just messy remains.
I've had other underwhelming experiences there and this was a strong reminder of them. I would look for other options.
This was our first buffet experience @ Carson's . Unfortunately, I am quite disappointed. The food was overcooked, dry, and overall of poor quality. The service was less than stellar. The server was mostly inattentive for the whole meal.
Mother’s Day brunch was disappointing. Scrambled eggs were presented on the buffet obviously scorched, with so much blackened egg included, I thought it had to be some sort of herb. Staff confirmed it was “burnt edges.” Nevertheless, the tray was left on the buffet. As for the pastries, they were all dry and cold - right out of the fridge. Nothing appeared or tasted freshly made. Perhaps just an off day. The coffee was delicious. I’ve had many lovely and delicious dinners there in the past. I will try them again.
Terrible food, undercooked grits. Dried out chicken on my salad. Would not go back.
We visited with both my teenagers and my parents. Service was lovely, atmosphere was just right. Easy to have a conversation. Not a lot of vegetarian options (and I am gluten free as well). I had the ratatouille which is supposed to come over cous cous. They were very responsive and substituted a sweet potato for me. The other members in our party are not vegetarian. Everyone was very pleased with their meal. We will be back for sure!
Carsons is very nice with good food and service although I must admit my salmon was a bit dry even though I asked for medium. The prime rib others at my party had was outstanding. And, we really appreciated the % off for two birthdays being celebrated.
Best waitstaff in Ann Arbor!
The Brussel sprouts were amazing game the burger delicious. Kyle was an awesome server.
Family passing through town, met for dinner, Sunday at 5pm. Brussels sprouts appetizer better than most. Bison burger was good, Oberon was cold, side salad big, cole slaw very tasty. Everyone else liked their dinners too. One guest said Gimlet was mediocre. I didn't taste it. Overall, Very good, on my repeat visit list.
As usual, food and service was very good.
One complaint this time around. I tried to use an open table voucher for part of the bill. I was told they didn’t know how to use it.
I’m told by the issuing company that it is to be used just like a master card . Could we get this straight? Thanks
I must say I was very disappointed with my evening here. It was definitely below the Main Street Ventures standards. It all started when the host turned into a zombie when we ask him to sit us at a booth instead of the table he had planned for us. I get that you can have special requests but not knowing what the restaurant was set up like I didn’t know what to put. This was my husband‘s birthday dinner and it certainly wasn’t sold out as far as reservations go so it should’ve been a relatively simple thing to accommodate us. The accommodation was made though his level of kindness went down when we asked that the accommodation be made. Our server was nice but her service was as good as I could get at your local Applebee’s restaurant. After figuring out what we wanted to eat we ordered the crab and salmon tower, prime rib with the substitution of couscous for both of us and sautéed mushrooms on top of my prime rib. We both asked that our prime rib be medium rare cuts. Outcomes the salmon and crab tower and it was actually good and we enjoyed it. Next outcomes our entrée and it was mediocre at best. Both of our cuts of meat for relatively tough even though they were cooked medium rare. I have gotten better prime rib for a lot cheaper than what it was sold for here. My husband’s was tough enough that it had to go back and he had to get another cut. It actually was better than the first one but still not great. As we continue to eat the manager walks by and says, “ are things better now?” And that is it. No apology or anything like that about what happened so far. Not even an offer to give us a free dessert or let me take a little bit off your bill for your hassle or anything like that. To top it off the couscous was very bland and didn’t seem seasoned at all to be honest. It was like they pulled it out of the pot mixed in the carrots dropped it in the bowl and brought it out with the meal.
Consistently very good dining experience. Nothing fancy but a nice homey local eating spot.
I will note that I have eaten here once before and had a good meal. This reservation was for Easter Sunday lunch. We have a dairy allergy in our family, so realizing that there was a brunch menu from 10-3 that would not meet our needs, I called the contact number for Carson's American Bistro several days in advance and told them which restaurant we would be at, the date and asked if both the brunch and regular menu would be available for a noon reservation. I was assured both menus would be available. When we arrived I realized the regular menu was not on the table and when I asked the waiter to confirm that we could order from it we were told no, there was no chef there nor the product required and that they didn't think the grill was open. The waiter did go back and forth several times and we were able to order a hamburger and fries (note - not what we anticipated for Easter lunch). The table wasn't clean when we were seated, we had to track someone down to ask for silverware, we had to track someone down for coffee and drink refills - the service just was not there. The buffet did not seem to be refreshed - empty serving dishes, no topping other than syrup, etc. In summary, we would not have scheduled our reservation if the contact had not assured us that we could order off from the regular menu. We would return for a meal off from the normal menu during a normal, non-holiday day. I know that Easter Sunday is a busy time so I expect that the wait staff was overwhelmed, but for the price I expected more in terms of food quality and service.
Easter brunch Food was good in buffet and stayed warm. Wish maybe there had been another meat like chicken for those who don’t eat red meat or a lot of fish.
Restaurant put on a buffet style brunch and it was obvious they were not prepared for that style. No toasters some bread toasted in the back long earlier. Ran out Basic food like hashbrowns and eggs constantly and not kept warm. Completely Unorganized and marginal food. My bill for four people was $117.
My husband got the Prime Rib/ French Dip. The bun looked like a hot dog bun, it was hard as a rock. The meat was also dry and looked old. I ordered the Filet, it was ok. My vegetables looked like they had been sitting in a sauté pan for hours, the mashed potatoes were literally scooped with an ice cream scoop and plopped on my plate.
The drinks were strong, but come to find out the server charged my husband for doubles.
All in all, not a horrible place but with all the other choices around, we will never choose this place again.
Our food was very nicely presented, and tasted as good as it looked.
Carsons is always a good choice for lunch with friends. The menu is varied and everyone can find a meal that suits. Wait staff is cordial and well trained, the bathrooms are clean (important sign of overall attention) and the food is good.
Had a lovely meal with a friend and my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. The food was great and the wait staff was so nice and helpful. Pretty good kids menu, but no fruit option. Will definitely be back for another meal at Carson's.
Host had a bad attitude. Wait staff was over worked. Prime rib was nothing special.
Fun gathering for friends. Our server was pleasant, but our meal was slow to come. We all had the chopped salad which was very good. No complaints, but with a bit of effort, this place could be outstanding.
Reservation for 7 including 3 school age children. Kids menu was good and affordable. Adults enjoyed salads and Turkey Burgers. Best turkey burger I've had in a long time.
This place is an old standby for us. We always know the food a service will be good
Cocktails were great. One of the best strawberry basil cocktails I have had anywhere. Our salads and dessert really hit the spot. The main course was surprisingly underwhelming and below par; not worth writing home about. The sauce and shrimp in the shrimp and grits were delicious but the grits itself were coarse and tough. The pecan encrusted chicken though quite well cooked and perfectly tender inside lacked the right amount of flavor as the mustard sauce felt like a ‘lite’ version of what it could be. I would pass on the accompanying bread as well. The service was a highlight. Our server was very attentive and pleasant brightening the experience. Now if they could just fix the entrees and the bread, we might have a winner.
The quality and experience at Carson's has deteriorated over the past year or so (last time I ate there). From the greeting at the door, which was unorganized and unprofessional, to the wait staff, who could not track a simple request for a substitution, to the kitchen, which was apparently woefully understaffed since the wait for our order was excessive--and poorly prepared two of the three entrees (overcooked, dry, too much salt), my experience was very disappointing. I will not likely eat here again.
Not a good value at all
Good food and nice atmosphere would recommend to others
As always a great dinner from Carsons. We are Catholic and it's Lent so we are avoiding meat. Wife enjoyed her fish dinner. Son and I had fish and chips. Service was great.
Great food and service. We were down visiting U of M for Campus Day with our youngest son who was accepted for fall 2018.
A nice neighborhood restaurant for our NE Ann Arbor area. In the summer they have a nice patio (but limited seating).
