Austere and inviting
I attended the Drag Brunch event that is held every Sunday. After I booked a table on Open Table I received a call that all the tables were booked, but that they would have seats reserved for us at the bar. They should really just turn off the Open Table seating reservation during the event because people shouldn't be reserving a table online since they need tickets for the event anyway. Fortunately they ended up moving us to a table but it was in a corner and hard to see.
The food was ok. Some was good, but the eggs and home fries tasted like cheap cafeteria food. If I go again, I may eat beforehand because it's not really worth the $15 for the buffet.
Overall, the event was fun, the venue is really nice, but the food wasn't anything special.
Everything was fantastic- start to finish! Drinks, dinner and dessert — delicious. Service was fabulous and the vibe was perfect for an early dinner after a long week.
It was a Valentine’s dinner that came the choice of three appetizers, three entrees, and two deserts. There was a choice of two wines or a prosecco. The service was very good, the meal was tasty, and there was a singer taking request! All in all a great evening!
Great experience overall. Food and drinks were both delicious. We had the roast of the day for two and it was a very large portion enough to bring home left overs. Cool speakeasy vibe with big comfortable leather seats. Would definitely go back. They also have a bar/lounge in a separate room in the back with pool tables. Didn’t get the chance to check that out but it looked cool
Fun to learn the history and a great Maître D’
Great ambiance, wish it was a little busier. Drinks and food were both fantastic as was the service.
Only half committed to a great theme and concept.
The food was not good neither was the service.
First dinner out in Boston as residents!
Great food, dope environment!
Went in a group of 6, and all of us got different entrees, plus we got 2 appetizers. Of those 8 things, 7 were amazing, and one was just a little overcooked. Good beer and wine lists as well. Very happy with the meal.
It was the Applebee’s of Speakeasies.
The food was tasty but, the service was slow and awkward. I was hosting friends for dinner and had to apologize all night for such an embarrassing experience.
As far as the atmosphere goes. The top 40 music didn’t fit. There was a game on in the bar, which would be fine if they marketed themselves as a sports bar. Half the tables were empty on a Saturday night. I certainly won’t be going back.
Amazing place! Food was delicious.
waiter was attentive, did what we needed before asking, very happy with our experience, will return for more soon, we were there for brunch, so, relatively quiet atmosphere
Took my staff to celebrate the holidays and had an enjoyable, relaxed lunch. Service was wonderful. I ordered the lobster roll and the lobster was dry and unappealing. All other lunches seemed to be well-received.
The food was just not good. I've been many times for drinks and always have a pleasant experience. This was my first time for dinner and we ordered the steak and salmon. The steak was asked to be cooked medium and it came out rare. The salmon was flavorless.
I had been here a bunch of times for drinks, but never for dinner. Cool cocktail menu and solid beer list, and I looked at the menu and decided to try it for dinner. The food was awesome. All 3 of us loved our meals, and we all got different things (mussels, salmon, and polenta). I would definitely go back.
I have visited Carrie Nation many times for after work drinks, but never for dinner. It was a special occasion, seeing as how my Mom was visiting from California for Thanksgiving. The service was exceptional. Andrea went above and beyond in making sure our evening was enjoyable. Even after my mother sent her food back, the salmon was a little under done, the staff at Carrie Nation addressed her concern with no fuss and when 2nd round of salmon came out, it was cooked to perfection. I really cannot say enough good things about our evening. My drinks I ordered were divine! My Mom wants to come back the next time she is in town!
The drinks and service were wonderful! Recommend the drink in the tea kettle
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Carrie Nation! It was a random "stumble upon" decision and we are so glad we did! The dining experience, service, food quality and atmosphere was impeccable! I enjoyed a few $1 oysters (M-W 4-7, $1 oysters!) and then moved on to Calamari, then mussels and fries for my entree. Everything was phenomenal. There's a speakeasy in the back (was closed for a private party when we were there), so I'm already plotting a return!
The space is cool and ripe with potential but just didn’t deliver. It was pretty empty, and oddly quiet. some of the food was good but some just wasn’t. Cocktails were good. It was really surprising and seemed like a missed opportunity. Service, though, was excellent.
They should bring back their original kale salad which was delicious
The service was awful and the food was terrible. The bar scene is cool but I would never go back for a meal here.
Food came out cold after over an hour of waiting
Wonderful experience at Carrie Nation! The service was excellent and dinner was delicious. Would definitely go back!
A bit too loud. Server arrived w seafood app instead of seafood entree (this was already after 2 dozen oysters for apps). Otherwise good.
We were in Boston to celeb rate our grandson's 5th birthday. After the party in the afternoon with his school friends, we took his mother, our daughter, out for a celebration of our own. We ordered the roast of the day--a prime rib, pureed potatoes and brussel sprouts. Also started with the mixed lettuce salad which was large enough for all to share. The large roast served the 3 of us easily and deliciously, and the left over meat made into sandwiches and fajitas the next day. We thoroughly enjoyed the dinner, the atmosphere, and the after dinner drink in the speak easy bar.
Excellent service, great atmosphere, delicious food, and excellent handcrafted cocktails. A little on the expensive side, but well worth it when you don’t mind spending a little extra money.
My friends and I needed a great way to end our weekend attendance at a conference; we found reviews of Carrie Nation quite flattering, so we figured we would give it a go. What an amazing evening we had. From the moment we walked in the door, the host and staff made us feel like we were the center of attention. From the handcrafted cocktails made by the mixology expert to the bread to the food to the post-dinner coffee, the experience was perfect. I will certainly return to Carrie Nation and recommend it to all my friends traveling to Boston.
Great service and even better food.
Staff doesn't seem to know any history about Prohibition and this restaurant. Food was pub food and nothing creative. Drinks aren't unique. We've been to a few authentic Speakeasy's....this was not!
Aaron was an an amazing server, the family loved him
I really like this place, I have been here a few time and find the food and service to always be really good. I also like the vibe of the place it's nice but not to stuffy. I recommend this place for a group or even a date it's spacious and not to loud so you can still feel like you can talk to one another.
Had an amazing time the service staff was so friendly and Frank made our experience unbelievable
We were welcomed and seated promptly. Service at our table was excellent. Food was delicious. Timing was also perfect as we were on our lunch hour. I would highly recommend.
Went here twice in a long weekend in Boston. Good cocktails, excellent food. I had the polenta with butternut squash both times and it was wonderful.
Food was only ok. Place is really noisy. Looks like sitting at the bar wld be fun
Our dinner was a birthday celebration for a cousin who I had not seen for some time. He and his wife were visiting from Atlanta. I was hoping for a festive atmosphere but what we found at our arrival at 7:30 was a nearly empty restaurant. It was Labor Day and by the time we finished our appetizers we were the only ones in the restaurant. We were definitely able to talk without interruption but the ambiance was somber without other diners. Food was OK. My pasta dish was heavy and greasy and the profiteroles were tough and tasteless. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food a bit more than I did. My husband and I live in Boston and had wanted to try it for some time. I would consider going again not on a holiday for drinks and small plates but with all the great dinner options around I would have to say that this will not be in my top 15.
Made reservation on Open Table for 10am on a Sunday morning. Arrived at restaurant but it was closed. It would be nice if the restaurant didn't accept reservations for times that it isn't open.
