Carrie Nation Ratings and Reviews
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Carrie Nation! It was a random "stumble upon" decision and we are so glad we did! The dining experience, service, food quality and atmosphere was impeccable! I enjoyed a few $1 oysters (M-W 4-7, $1 oysters!) and then moved on to Calamari, then mussels and fries for my entree. Everything was phenomenal. There's a speakeasy in the back (was closed for a private party when we were there), so I'm already plotting a return!
The space is cool and ripe with potential but just didn’t deliver. It was pretty empty, and oddly quiet. some of the food was good but some just wasn’t. Cocktails were good. It was really surprising and seemed like a missed opportunity. Service, though, was excellent.
We were in Boston to celeb rate our grandson's 5th birthday. After the party in the afternoon with his school friends, we took his mother, our daughter, out for a celebration of our own. We ordered the roast of the day--a prime rib, pureed potatoes and brussel sprouts. Also started with the mixed lettuce salad which was large enough for all to share. The large roast served the 3 of us easily and deliciously, and the left over meat made into sandwiches and fajitas the next day. We thoroughly enjoyed the dinner, the atmosphere, and the after dinner drink in the speak easy bar.
My friends and I needed a great way to end our weekend attendance at a conference; we found reviews of Carrie Nation quite flattering, so we figured we would give it a go. What an amazing evening we had. From the moment we walked in the door, the host and staff made us feel like we were the center of attention. From the handcrafted cocktails made by the mixology expert to the bread to the food to the post-dinner coffee, the experience was perfect. I will certainly return to Carrie Nation and recommend it to all my friends traveling to Boston.
I really like this place, I have been here a few time and find the food and service to always be really good. I also like the vibe of the place it's nice but not to stuffy. I recommend this place for a group or even a date it's spacious and not to loud so you can still feel like you can talk to one another.
Our dinner was a birthday celebration for a cousin who I had not seen for some time. He and his wife were visiting from Atlanta. I was hoping for a festive atmosphere but what we found at our arrival at 7:30 was a nearly empty restaurant. It was Labor Day and by the time we finished our appetizers we were the only ones in the restaurant. We were definitely able to talk without interruption but the ambiance was somber without other diners. Food was OK. My pasta dish was heavy and greasy and the profiteroles were tough and tasteless. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food a bit more than I did. My husband and I live in Boston and had wanted to try it for some time. I would consider going again not on a holiday for drinks and small plates but with all the great dinner options around I would have to say that this will not be in my top 15.
Another memorable experience at Carrie Nation! Enjoyed an early afternoon lunch with family - had an unfortunate delay with a couple of "guests" arrivals, but everyone at Carrie Nation was extremely accommodating and gracious...our noontime reservation became a 1:30 lunch!!
Never felt like we were imposing; needing to order or move to another table.
This IS my restaurant of choice for any occasion in Boston!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Carrie Nation! We will be back (and ON TIME - we promise!!)
The food and drinks were amazing. I had the two course prix fixe menu which included a glass of house wine only for $28. I found it advertised as a speakeasy, so I thought it was going to be a little more discreet, but the shades of the huge windows were open. The service was a also slow to start off.
Very nice to have different "areas" for different types of gatherings. The best gin fizz ever from the bar. Great service in the restaurant and great ambiance. Suitable for many occasions and easy to migrate from the main bar area to the restaurant. Very attentive but unobtrusive staff.
This place has a great location close to the state house and not far from the freedom trail. The room is full of comfortable chairs around smaller tables and a clubby old Boston decor. The cocktails were well made classics but nothing very exotic. The meals were good in a dependable sort of way. Despite its cheeky rebuke to anti-drinking Carrie Nation, this restaurant plays it pretty safe with its menu and drinks. Some of the appetizers our fellow diners ordered looked better than our entrees, and our waitress was excellent. For a comfortable spot on the downtown Boston side of Beacon Hill with a traditional interior, Carrie Nation is a fine place for some small plates a cool drink.
Service was extremely slow. We didn't receive even water until 20 minutes after we were seated. Throughout the meal we were waited on by 4 different waiters, none of whom had coordinated. Hopefully this is not the norm.
The ambiance was great - good music, quiet, cozy setting, and the food was pretty good (Sunday brunch). Would recommend.
Pre-theatre family date. We let the bartender choose a creative punch, which made us feel like Mary Poppins. It was spicy and sweet, just as our wonderful waiter, Freddy, promised. The Paloma cocktail made with tequila was exceptional as well. Steak frites, Salmon and Bucatini were each perfectly prepared and presented. Great experience!
