We traditionally eat at the Carriage Hose prior to attending a show at Paper Mill Playhouse. It is convenient and the food is good Staff are always pleasant.
Great service. Food was very good and presented nicely
For a pricey prefix dinner, the choices on the menu plus the food itself were just OK, and the desserts were out and out terrible! Service and ambience were good. The only five star rating I can give goes to the convenience of being right across from the Playhouse (although you pay a $10 parking fee on top of an expensive meal for that convenience).
Took my wife here, for our anniversery, before going to the show at papermill.
Percect window view seats across from cozy fireplace.
Great drinks. Tequila mix drink was perfect.
Prix fix menu had an amazing selection from unique appetizers to very delectible main coarses. The desserts are out of this world as well.
Can't wait to take my beautiful wife back to this beautiful place.
We dine here for every papermill play.
Love this place! Always an interesting menu and varied. Service is great and everyone is friendly and eager to please.
The place is warm and tastefully decorated--a relaxed and comforting atmosphere.
Wonderful pre theater meal. Lovely choices with excellent service and a nice atmosphere.
Our waitress Janae was terrific. Friendly, attentive service. We always enjoy eating at Carriage House before a show. Eating at the restaurant with a view of the Papermill is always fun. My wife and I both had a different soup for a starter and enjoyed very much. Entrees were salmon filet and pasta entree. Topped off with bread pudding and chocolate/ peanut butter mousse for dessert. Great meal! "The Sting" was great as well!
Enjoyed the service...the food was fine...great idea for pre-Paper Mill dining and convenient parking, just like Buona Sera for a show at the Count Basie theater in Red Bank. This is how the affluent live.
We usually go here when we're going to the paper Mill playhouse. You have to have a reservation. It is a prix fix menu and everyone in our group was happy with the food. They make special drinks to coordinate with the play. It is a pleasant surrounding, it was noisy . There is a different menu with every play.
Pre-matinee lunch. Food was delicious and creative; our waiter was attentive and pleasant, though extremely busy. The soup with little ravioli pockets was yummy and corn beef fritters with pickled cabbage was unusual and tasty. I’d come here even if 8 weren’t going to the show. The bar is welcoming!
My friend and I went for a pre theater lunch and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was exceptional, service was excellent and what a great value. Highly recommend and will definitely return
Over-priced with pretentious menu. The only reason to go to this restaurant is if you have tickets to the Paper Mill Playhouse, you want the convenience of eating next door, and you don't mind paying way too much for mediocre pretentious food.
Delicious food, relaxing atmosphere! Great place for pre-show dining.
Always a great meal at the Carriage House. Very creative menu and excellent dining experience.
The food was quite poor. Our burrata appetizer was inedible (yellowish, slimy), 2 others has a white bean soup that was passable. My salmon entree tasted freezer burned and was very very dry, the rice was clumpy. One diner requested that the lamb be served with minimal toppings and received a plate heaping with onions, gravy etc a top. We did not eat the desserts save some fresh fruit (peanut butter mousse was thick and had clumps of jelly in it). Our waitress was thin veneer nice. The manager did offer a soup in replacement for the first course but only after one our party stopped him to comment on the lack of quality. LOVE the Papermill. Will not return to Carriage House.
Wonderful food with warm and friendly staff
The food was good. However the menu was too limited. The service was extremely unprofessional. Once seated it took 20 minutes for someone to come over to us. And even that appeared almost as an afterthought. Since it was pre-theater we honored our servers request to put in our food order at the same time we ordered pre-dinner cocktails. Little did we imagine that our appetizers would come before our drinks. It was our anniversary and we refused to let it upset us. But we have crossed this restaurant off our list.
Our waiter Joe was amazing. Actually everyone was soooo nice
Can’t wait to go back.
The cucumber martini was ridiculous. Soooo tasty.
I was very impressed how updated and classy the restaurant looked. The service was great, flexible with a party of six. The food was delicious, beating my expectations of what to expect at this extremely convenient spot near the Papermill Playhouse. Would definitely return.
The staff was great. There were plumbing issues and the staff were great in dealing with it with grace and humor.
I have eaten at The Carriage House many times prior to seeinga show at the Papermill Playhouse. It has always been a positive experience with the quality and selection of the food but the staff as well.
This past visit I want to pay a special compliment to the Manager that was on duty and the staff as they were having some plumbing issues and before sitting anyone at their table he took time out to explain the situation and be sure folks understood.
We were served our drinks in paper cups and ate off paper dishes but the food was still delicious. Cudos to them for handling a situation with cleverness and class.
Husband & I were there for lunch before the show. I ordered 2 appetizers and an entree, no dessert. He ordered appetizer, entree, dessert. Waitress confirmed I wanted salad, then squash soup, then entree; he was to have mushroom soup, entree, dessert. Out came my soup and salad together with no soup for him. Waitress went back for his mushroom soup and came out with squash soup -- back to the kitchen. Another waitress came out with my squash soup & salad again, and we advised I had already had them. Then his mushroom soup came. My entree then came with his, so I was done eating when he was to get his dessert. Waitress asked if we wanted coffee & we said yes 2 as you do not serve cappuccino. At that time we had to remind her that my husband had dessert coming. After a few minutes she came back with one coffee. Had to remind her we wanted 2 coffees and a dessert. She advised she would get the coffee but dessert was up to the kitchen to supply. Took a long time to get sorbet!!! Water cups (only beverage we were having with lunch) was not replenished until after coffee was served. I mentioned to one waiter that this was the worse service we had ever had at the carriage house. Waitress must have been advised of that because she was very rude presenting us with the check. She also evidently had had time to speak with those at 2 other tables and never engaged with us. Since the Paper Mill requests we arrive at least 1 hour early (quite ridiculous) for the shows, we will now bring Wendy's and eat in the car. Not a great experience and no way I can recommend.
Had lunch here before seeing a matinee. Each course was absolutely phenomenal. Portions were just right and the service was outstanding. I can't say it enough how delicious the food was. Certainly a very refined menu, however the chef has a true gift for appealing to any palette. One of the best meals I've ever eaten out.
This was our first time at the Carriage House and we will absolutely return. Wait staff was very attentive and nice and the food was outstanding. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and did have tickets to see The Sting and eating here was a great start to a great evening.
Excellent food and service
Pre theater dinner. Food well prepared. Would have liked more choices excellent service
We went to see "The Sting" at the Paper Mill Playhouse on a Sunday Matinee. Had to arrive early to park in one of the close parking lots, so decided to have lunch at the adjoining Carriage House Restaurant before the show. First time there, nice first impression with the coziness and appearance. The service was great - made us feel like we were special. The food was also great. All together, a very pleasant experience.
I expect that we'll go there again for future pre-theater meals (lunch or dinner).
Excellent food & service. Very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend for dinner before the theater.
As always, the Carriage House met our expectations. Food was excellent and service was wonderful. Always love o have dinner there before seeing a show at the PaperMill Theater. I highly recommend it.
Terrific! Very well done they really do a good job.
Always great before the theatre.. I often try things I would never expect and they are always wonderful
My girlfriends and I went before a performance. Got to sit by the fireplace on a cold afternoon. Very nice. Food selections were wonderful, something different for each of us. Good portions and excellent flavor! Great service. Nice atmosphere. We really enjoyed ourselves. Will be back!
The food, drink, ambience and location were excellent. However, although we stated with our reservation that we needed to leave by 6:30 for our 7:00 show, we were unable to leave until 6:50, due to the waitress' inexperience or incompetence.
We had a good time at the Carriage House. We both had the Pumpkin soup which was great. I had the Pasta entre and Alan had the salmon. Both were very good. Al had the cake which he liked. I had thee sorbet.
The sorbet was good but ordinary.
GREAT FOOD, AND ABSOLUTELY THE BEST CHOICE BEFORE ATTNDING AN EVENT AT THE PAPER MILL PLAYHOUSE IN MILLBURN.
Great place to dine before the show at the Papermill Playhouse.
Menu was outstanding. Servers were over and above professional and efficient.
The table was set beautifully. I was greeted as soon as I was seated. I ordered a bloody mary and it was wonderful. Lots of spice served with two large shrimp, two large olives, and two pieces of celery on a skewer. The salad was delicious. The salmon crepes were unusual and also delicious. The chocolate truffle was amazing! I will return.
Everything was perfect. We have eaten here before but we found the menu choices to be the best so far on this visit. The dinner from appetizer to dessert was delicious. The service was perfect as well.
