Carriage House Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
On a really cold evening, when we had tickets for an evening performance at the Papermill Playhouse, this restaurant was ideal. Felt very fortunate to get reservations. The atmosphere was lovely and the wait staff outstanding. The food was good as well and dining there helped complete and absolutely perfect evening.
Made a reservation prior to a show. When we arrived, there were no tables available and we were put at a high top alone at the bar. We had an elderly person with us, so the high seats were difficult. The table was too small for 4 people. I had to pull over another high top to make room. The table was also right by the door, so anytime someone came in or out, we were hit with a blast of frigid air. The host did comp me a drink for the bad situation but why wouldn't there be a table when a reservation was made? It made a celebratory evening into a frustrating one.
The food choices on the children's menu were awful (especially for the price). Our 10 and 11 year old grandchildren had rolls, pretzels, pasta with butter and cookies (they were carbed out!!). The pork ribs entee on the adult menu was fatty and presented as a mish-mash of tastes. The only reason to eat there is convenience for the theater. Setting and serrvice were good.
Excellent food and service !! Beautiful fireplace in dining room. Wait staff are very attentive and went over and above in making sure we all enjoyed our dining experience. Steps to the front entrance of the Papermill Playhouse. Park, eat and enjoy the show !!
The Carriage House is a special find. Many think you need tickets at Papermill Playhouse to enjoy the restaurant but you don't. Come and enjoy the unique Prix Fixe menu created for every show. Service is exceptional and the food is amazing. Lovely ambiage in the two dining areas, one with a fireplace and wooded view, the other with a garden or gaze on the theatre courtyard. Have gone many times now and have never been disappointed by the food or staff. Even have tried a couple special cocktails offered and been pleased! Give the Carriage House a try, you will be glad you did. And you will return for more!!
Love the ambiance, food selections, and employees....Christopher, Dina, Gigi and those I cannot name couldn’t be nicer, kinder or more hospitable. The varied menus are a treat and the amount of food I’d perfect for our appetites! Always enjoy dining at the Carriage House.
Our granddaughter ordered the pizza from the Three Course Prix Fixe Children's Menu at lunch before a matinee performance of Annie. It was obviously a frozen pizza. For a $20 price I think they could make their own pizza or change the menu. The rest of the meal was fine but the frozen pizza really annoyed my husband and I.
We are Papermill Theater season ticket holders and dine here 5 times a theater season. We have never been disappointed! The menu is limited but there is always meat, fish or pasta to choose and the items on the menu frequently relate to the show. The meals are pre-fixe and include an appetizer, entree and dessert. They also have a full bar. Service is wonderful and never intrusive. We wish this restaurant was open during the off-season too!
As always, the Carriage House experience was perfect. My granddaughter and I love to dine there before attending the productions at the Paper Mill Theater. The food is always excellent, and there is always something new to try on the menu. The staff is very attentive. We look forward to eating at the Carriage House each time we come for a performance, and it has never disappointed us.
Came for dinner before Papermill show and to celebrate my 60th birthday. Food was great and tasty. Themed to show (The Honeymooners). Excellent service from Alyssa and Christopher. Chef stopped by to see how meal was, and told her it was fabulous. Gave feedback to offer some of the choices again for future prix fixe. Or ala carte at the bar. Commented too that the lighting and music level was much more conducive to conversation and enjoyable meal with friends and family. They are open any time there is a performance. Check online for availability. You can go without having tickets for show. I have gone just for a nice dinner and it's worth the trip! Give it a try!!
We were in town for the show at Paper Mill and figured we'd complete the trip with logical visit to the Carriage House Restaurant. I say logical because if you've never been there, it is conveniently located across the courtyard from the theater. We were there for the matinee and partook of their 3-course Prix Fixe offering. We started with a glass of wine. My wife and I selected the two soups from our day's menu. She had the Butternut Squash Bisque which she (and several nearby diners) thoroughly enjoyed. We're still trying to figure out exactly what it was that made it taste so good. The waitress would say only that it was "love" from the chef. My wife is guessing it was parmesan cheese. I had the Manhattan Clam Chowder with bacon. I must confess, I couldn't tell if there was bacon, but it was very good nevertheless. For our entree's, I had the meatloaf (which was served with buttered noodles and glazed carrots) while my wife had the Maple Glazed boneless Pork Ribs which was served with caramelized pears and sweet potatoes. Both meals were ample and delicious. For dessert, both of us had the Old fashioned Chocolate Mayonnaise cake. Like everything else we had, it was terrific. Our stop at the Carriage House was the perfect complement to our day at the theater. That, along with the fact that it was almost 70 degrees on a late October Saturday made for a perfect visit to Millburn.
We have been many times and enjoyed it, but I was actually disappointed this time. The food was good, not very good. The bread was fair. When helpings are modest, the taste must be memorable and it wasn't.
Staff was lovely but stressed when the restaurant got full. It will do OK because of its location and the fact that it is only open for Paper Mill shows (therefore no shortage of patrons) and is very convenient to the theater.
Went prior to seeing a show at The Papermill Playhouse.
Food was good, nice ambiance, quiet enough to have a conversation.
What I liked best was we weren't rushed through dinner at all and it was nice to just relax before the show. We arrived early since we had an hour plus ride to get there and we were able to grab a drink before dinner. Overall we had a great time!
