Carriage House Restaurant
An eclectic a la carte menu of small plates and desserts is available only in the bar area; seating on a first come-first served basis. A full bar offers premium spirits and a stunning selection of interesting wines by the glass, as well as by the bottle.
Always a good experience at the Carriage House before going to the Papermill. Service is excellent. Would have liked to have more choices for lunch.
Loved the food and ambience but my husband felt menu could be expanded more. Also if you wanted something from bar menu it was not allowed in dining area
I have attended all shows for 25 years and love havig lunch for every performance.Menu choices are excellent and food is delicious. Keep up the good work. Karolee Glassman Sat afternoon subscription
Great food, great service and it's so convenient to be right next to the theater , absolutely recommend this restaurant !
Dinner before the performance at the Playhouse - we prefer to eat at the restaurant! Always an excellent dinner and they have an awesome bar and bar tenders and the service is excellent!!!
always a pleasure to eat here. variations on familiar plates consistently satisfy
We have been dining at the Carriage House before shows for about 5 years. We love the food and the service. It couldn’t be more convenient, just steps from the theater. The food is always well prepared and the menu is set to reflect the current play offering different and interesting choices every time. This year we switched to matinees and we are enjoying the luncheons as much as we have enjoyed the dinners in past seasons
This is not fast food and the rooms are small, with a pretty high noise level from people out for a special occasion before seeing a show. We always manage to carry on conversations even with all the chatting going on around us! The staff is pleasant and efficient. They manage to get a large number of people in and out in the two hours before show time but we have never felt rushed.
Special mention for our favorite server, Deena! She is truly one of the best we have encountered anywhere.
Carriage House is one of my favorite restaurants. I am always amazed at how wonderfully the chef puts together a combination of flavors in every dish.
What delicious food served in a relaxed atmosphere! Perfect lunch before a matinee! The food selections were very good and the quality was excellent. Our server was very attentive but let us relax between courses.
My mother and I started going to the Carriage House on Paper Mill days last year after our usual lunch spot closed. We have not been disappointed once in their Prix Fixe Pre-Matinee menu. Oftentimes, the menu will be themed based on whatever show is playing (e.g., pumpkin cake was offered as a dessert during the "Cinderella" run last fall). The price might seem a little steep for lunch, but you get three courses (soup or salad, entree, dessert) and a generous amount of food. The only criticism I have is the only beverages included are coffee and tea; it would be nice if they included soda as well. We always have had good luck with servers as well. all have been very attentive and accommodating. Best of all, once you finish your meal, all you have to walk next door to the theater. You only have to park once!
Final tip: Don't go without a reservation. We saw several walk-in would-be diners turned away because there were no available tables left.
Always have dinner here before the show.
Carriage House is consistently an amazing dining experience. Besides the wonderful productions produced at Paper Mill Playhouse, dining before the shows at Carriage House makes the evening unforgettable.
Wonderful old building with a charming ambiance. Food was excellent, service wonderful, and timed perfectly so that we were able to move smoothly from our dinner to the theater. I would highly recommend anyone going to see a performance to take advantage of this restaurant.
Great setting, good food, excellent service. The food is fresh and seasonal. Have eaten here many times, never disappointed. If they had a bread warmer, it would be perfect.
Very convenient for the theater goers. Best of all is that the food and the service is excellent!
The room is lovely and the atmosphere is calm. Even though the tables are close together, we did not feel cramped and were not hearing other conversations. Our waiter was wonderful. He refreshed our drinks before we would have asked him. He was pleasant and cheerful. We selected the lamb shank. It was done well and was presented in a purée of potatoes which were a bit mushy. I had the salad with feta cheese and it was bright and flavorful. My friend had the butternut squash soup, which she said was creamy and full of flavor. I had the chocolate gelato which was really chocolaty and delicious. My friend had the rice pudding and that was also very good. All in all it was a great experience even though it was pricey. I will go back again.
Always novel creations and delicious. Most enjoyable and relaxing.
I made my reservations for every show for the past year. I always sat next to the same women. Three tables requested the same tables for every reservation. This time I was handed a card telling me that only people with $1,000 in donations could have reserved seating. As a solo diner, I appreciated knowing the people at tables near me.
This was our first time visiting the Carriage House Restaurant and it met and exceeded our expectations. Chris, our server, was charming and attentive. The menu was wonderful and we enjoyed each dish. Will definitely be back...soon!
Waited a little too long for dinner. Last minute rush. Next time I will make the reservation for 6:00 rather than 6:30 in order to get to the 8:00 show. Service was lovely, courteous, and efficient.
My granddaughter and I have dinner at the Carriage House before every performance we attend and are NEVER disappointed. The food is excellent and the selection never disappoints us...It is just difficult to choose between the delicious options.
It is amazing that the waitstaff is able to serve so many people in such a short window of time--but they do so in such an attentive manner that each patron feels well-served.
My thanks to all who participate in creating a magical evening for us as theater-goers.
We always go to carriage house when we have tickets to Papermill Playhouse. The food is always excellent, as is the service. It is a very attractive restaurant. I wish it were open during regular restaurant hours as opposed to just for the shows.
We did not enjoy this visit. We have been going for the last 4 years. Our group waited 15 minutes before our waitress asked if we wanted a cocktails, we had to ask for rolls. The chicken dish was luke warm the other food was ok. We thought we had a specific table reserved but they change their policy. If you donate 1,000 you now get to reserve a table. I guess being steady customers doesn’t matter anymore
It is so convenient before a performance but
most of all the food is great. The service is great
and we love the ambiance!
I would recommend it.
See you soon.
Great service and dinner; but, the “Truffle” appetizer ordered by one of our guests was disappointing...
The small dessert cocktail was a nice surprise and the entrees were delicious and ample.
It’s hard to beat the quality and convenience of Carriage House when coming for a show at the Papermill.
Interesting, high quality food selections. Generous drink pour. Outstanding service. Highly recommend.
Brought my elementary school-aged daughter for a special prix fixe lunch before a show at the theater and it was amazing. Very special experience and the service was attentive and friendly and super-fast. The kids menu had perfect choices and the tomato soup with ravioli was great as well as the s'mores dessert (even the buttered pasta was good). I had the butternut squash soup and the shepard's pie which was very good. Coffee and dessert were great. The staff were so nice and made it feel very special which really made my daughter have fun and feel "fancy." Good portions, nice service.
Really good and super convenient when going to a show Paper Mill!
The first time I was disappointed. All our other visits have been excellent. The food was not at the same high level on this most recent visit. The procurement and preparation were not what we expected. The manager was very interested in my comments and said he would take action.
Will be our go-to dining for shows at the Papermill Playhouse! Really can't beat the convenience of dining next door with easy parking well ahead of the show starting. It also struck a great balance of an upscale atmosphere but not so fancy that we felt odd bringing our two daughters. The themed menu and mocktails were a great touch and added to an exceptional experience. Vegetarian options were good and not run of the mill. We are already planning our next visit to accompany another theater evening.
We ordered from the three course prix fixe dinner menu and children’s menu, “Cinderella” Holiday 2019. The bone in veal ribs melted in your mouth and the pumpkin tortellini with wild mushrooms was very tasty. Our granddaughter enjoyed her dinner and loved her S’mores Tart. She felt like a big girl with “The Ball Gown” mocktail! The service was friendly and the dining room was very cozy. We would definitely return and recommend to our family and friends.
The setting is lovely. The 3 coarse meal is good, but not great. The service and drinks are excellent.
This is our second time dining at the Carriage House for lunch prior to the theatre and will probably attend again. It seems to have become a tradition.
Another absolutely delightful dinner at The Carriage House. It's a shame this is just a seasonal restaurant as it would be wonderful to visit when I'm not just going to the Papermill Playhouse. The food is always fresh, exciting, creative and most importantly, delicious. Vegan and vegetarian options abound which is always refreshing to see. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable and not afraid to get answers when asked perplexing questions. The manager, Christopher, is super-human at times and is deserving of a Customer-Focused Employee Award of the Year for sure. Don't miss out on this gem of a place next time you are in the area. It's 4-star in my book!
Best food ever. Short menu of choices not found at other places. Can’t wait for the next show followed by a stop at the Carriage House.
Just wished they opened the main level bar for those of us who don’t do stairs well.
Always a great time food and staff excellent eat here every show we attend
It was wonderful. Thank you.
This is our favorite part of the Papermill theater experience. The staff and food are stellar. Love them all.
Mike was an excellent waiter!
This was a pre- theater lunch with small children — ages 4-7. Very successful. The service was lovely. The food, pretty good. Recommend.
The food was very good and the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend the Carriage House.
