Really enjoy eating at the Carriage House before the show. It was not crowded this visit which was important to us. Also the noise level was much better as all the tables were not occupied. Enjoyed the menu as usual.
Wonderful pre-show 3-course lunch! So easy to park once and be able to dine and then see the show.
This was the perfect setting for a pre show dinner for 2. The restaurant is lively. Service was attentive and classy. The food was excellent the pre fixe menu was perfect, something for every taste. Our dessert and coffee topped off the meal perfectly. We have tickets for several shows this season and this will be our go to fo dinner.
The burger was well done. Asked for medium. Fries were too salty.
Not $30 for entree!
The only option was the prix fixe menu, which was too much food. Most of the items were tasty, but the menu was misleading in not mentioning that the duck sandwich came with fries.
The menu was three course pre fixe with plenty of great choices for the first course and third courses but only 4 choices for the main course. In addition, there were supplemental charges for a number of items for both of the first two courses, some of which were listed on the menu and some were not. This came as a surprise when we received the final bill.
Also, the service was short handed by the end of the meal. We arrived at 5:30, planning to finish in plenty of time for a 7:30 performance. The evening progressed in a timely manner at first until the restaurant began to fill. We finished eating our main course by 6:45 but did not get our dessert until 7:15 and our coffee was served at 7:25 with free 'to go' cups to take with us as we were hurriedly paying the bill to get out in time. We were in much better shape than several of those around us who hadn't even finished their main course yet and had to leave with their dinner incomplete and unfinished.
We had anticipated that this might happen as it was the first night for them to be reopened after the hiatus. So we went extra early to try and avoid this situation. Unfortunately, even 2 hours did not allow enough time. The poor wait staff hustled as much as possible, but they were very limited by what they could do. If the food doesn't come out, they cannot serve it. And if everyone wants their check at the same time, how does one person handle all of that?
Hopefully they will be able to work out these bugs quickly so everyone can enjoy their meal and still make the performance without the last minute rush out the door. I am hesitant to recommend until I know this situation is fixed.
This was not my first time here. I really enjoyed the cabaret night that the Paper Mail had, but this time I must say the Carriage House was disappointing in several ways. Appetizers were excellent but the main course (eggplant rigatoni) which I have had three times there and was delicious, did not taste delicious last night. My friend and I both had this entree and agreed that the sauce was on the “sour” side and we could not find any eggplant. I am thinking that is is used within the red sauce, but last time, we had chunks of eggplant. I was looking so forward to this entree because it had always been great. Service was terrible. Server did attend to us immediately upon seating and started out fine, but not once did she come over and ask how things were. I could not even find her to tell her. We had both wanted to order coffee and dessert and she never asked us. Then, when it came time for the check, I asked her to split the bill on two credit cards and she was ok with that but when we asked for receipts she said she had to get a manager because it was hard to do. Well, we waited about 10 minutes and then she came back and said she was still working on it. Finally, it was resolved, but all in all, the service last night was not up to par. I would not rule out eating here, because in the past, it has been excellent. I do find prices very high for desserts and portions on the smaller side, but it is a beautiful night especially outside for the show,
The food was excellent as it always is. The entertainment was great. This was our second time and we will return In the spring.
Carriage House has the best Sunday brunch in the area! The homemade blueberry muffins are huge and easily the best I've ever had. I take some home! We shared the mushroom ravioli and the eggs and Italian-style beef hash. Both delicious. The apple cider sangria goes really well with the food. So does the sweeter Peach Bellini.
Service is always excellent and the coronavirus safety precautions are implemented really well.
We love the setting, alongside the brook.
Very highly recommended!
Thanks to everyone @ Carriage House -)
Wonderful dinner and music. Highly recommend this.
The outdoor Cabernet has been wonderful this year. Sitting by the brook and having good entertainment is a real plus. food is always very good.
The Carriage House did an outstanding job. The set up along the river with heat lamps was fantastic. White lights decorated the trees. All tables face the outdoor stage with a 90 minute Cabaret Show. There was one seating with a two course pre fixe - the last one being 615PM before the 630PM show. The service and food were outstanding. The soup and lamb came out piping hot on a chilly evening. They also have high top tables with just appetizers.
If you need to use the restroom, they ask you let the server or manager know in order to escort you. The bathroom is cleaned after every patron.
Our overall experience was fantastic. Best outdoor restaurant we have eaten at during Covid.
Great food, great entertainment, and great mild weather made for a magical outdoor dining experience! Thanks to the Papermill Playhouse staff and Chef Holly Guber and her staff for "Brookside Cabaret"
This was my second visit to this restaurant and mainly was booked to see the cabaret show under the stars,Kelli Rapke, who was fabulous. However, now I am addicted to this place. The food was wonderful and each dish is very unique. The two course pre-fixe meal has good selections to choose from. The salad was great, the bread was tasty (with the basil olive oil) and both entrees were superb. The salmon dish had an orange flavor and the side was healthy. The mushroom ravioli with truffle and pesto...OMG! Best ever and the butternut squash accompanied it..so perfect. Server was attentive, but this time I had to get the attention of the servers for additional waters. No big deal, though. Had an enjoyable night and even though it did get cooler, the heaters were extremely warm...in fact, very hot by end of night. I can not believe I never ate here when I attended shows at the Paper Mill. I made this comment last time, but I will repeat myself. I think for $70 per person, a coffee or tea or dessert should be included. Many of my friends who come here express that, also. All in all, love the Carriage House.
25th Anniversary. Entertainment was superb. Portable heaters helped. CH should have mor until weather allows.
great food and performance very good value. professional staff
A band was playing outdoors and it was a great atmosphere. They were very careful with COVID protocols
I have nothing but great reviews about this place! The Chef is superb! I have never had a bad meal here, and she continues to deliver delicious offers. The staff is beyond hospitable and consistently on point. This year has been a nightmare with covid, but their improv accommodations and offering of dinner/cabaret in place of in house theatre has been wonderful! Thank you for a memorable anniversary! Paul & Susan
What a great venue for food and entertainment. I highly recommend you give the Cabaret a try!
We had a lovely evening at the Carriage House. The singer was great. The food and drinks were both good and interesting. Our server was professional and personable. The tables were well spaced apart.
Cabaret was great. We had a beautiful night to be dining under the stars.
Great meal, friendly service. Saw an excellent band. Of course it’s Covid time, so we are outside.
We have loved coming to the Carriage House and Papermill Playhouse for many years. This summer’s outdoor concerts and dining have been wonderful - Chef Holly always comes up with the perfect menu and delicious dinners! We are looking forward to coming back in a few weeks - I highly recommend this restaurant for the perfect dining experience!
It was a lovely dinner for our anniversary. Our waiter was terrific. Umoja. We wrote it down. Food was JUST RIGHT!
Thank you for putting on a wonderful show in these crazy times. Dinner was delicious, we'll be back for sure.
They have a great Drink selection and the Salmon was very good.
What a relaxing brunch outdoors! Our server was such a friendly, attentive young man and the food was of very good quality. Although the menu is quite limited (due to Covid and unpredictable weather conditions that affect the number of diners understandably), the meal was delicious. I especially enjoyed the Cast Call Cosmos
My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner & show Saturday night. The food was delicious and the entertainment was fabulous.
Wife and I had the best experience, between the music, food, wait staff and atmosphere it could not have been any better.
Dining at the Carriage House is unique these days. I always feel COMPLETELY safe, comfortable, and at ease. Tables are very widely spaced, all precautions are taken seriously, foot traffic is well controlled, temperatures checked upon arrival.
The menu is focused yet very well chosen. Typically about 6-7 appetizers and four entrees including chicken, meat, fish, and vegetarian. Also a great dessert menu. ALL the choices are superb and very well presented. Staff provides great descriptions and suggestions.
Try the caprese platter. The lamb shank is among the best we've had. The seafood paella is delicious. For dessert if you like dark chocolate go for the dark chocolate sorbet served with whipped cream, a strawberry, and a cookie.
Open Wed-Sat plus Sunday brunch (which is one of the best brunch options in the area). Excellent live entertainment nightly. Check the Paper Mill Playhouse for details.
All profits help support Paper Mill Playhouse!!
Very highly recommended.
Felt safe. Which is most important in these times. I enjoyed the entertainment
A refined but relaxed space to dine and the cabaret entertainment is excellent.
Loved the cabaret show along with the 2 course pre-fix dinner. This was my first time at the restaurant and because of the pandemic, they offered outdoor patio dining along with a show. The salad was delicious and the service was decent. I liked that someone always came around to refill waters. I got to taste two different dishes because my friend and I shared both. The chicken was excellent with a nice combination of sides. The cranberry-strawberry sauce, stuffing, and carrots were spiced just right, except perhaps a little salty. I forgot to tell them not to add salt, so it was my fault. The pasta stuffed with pears and cheese and the brown sauce...yummy. Never had pasta like this before and would order it again. The only suggestion I have for the restaurant is to include a dessert or at least one beverage for the price paid. It is a little expensive for only two courses, but it is also gourmet dining. Very enjoyable evening and look forward to coming back.
Enjoyable evening with good food and entertainment
What an enjoyable night at the Carriage House! Came on one of the Cabaret nights when they have live entertainment. The singer was great, made it a very special evening. We were given complimentary Prosecco as we were celebrating our anniversary, very nice touch. Food was delicious, one of the best meals out we’ve had in a long tine (pasta dish and seafood paella). Our server, Giovanni (sp?) was perfect too, we were well taken care of!
unexpectedly outstanding. food , service, atmosphere, and entertainment
Dinner was delicious and they had live entertainment outside by the creek. Absolutely beautiful evening.
Overall experience was very good. Second time we enjoyed our dining. It was a beautiful night, we enjoyed delicious food, and had very good service. We dined at the Carriage House to celebrate a birthday but nothing special was done, whereas the table next to us brought out their dessert with a sparkler to celebrate a birthday. Not a big deal just wanted to bring to your attention. Thank you - it was a great night and my guests had a great time!
