Carriage House Restaurant
An eclectic a la carte menu of small plates and desserts is available only in the bar area; seating on a first come-first served basis. A full bar offers premium spirits and a stunning selection of interesting wines by the glass, as well as by the bottle.
Great food excellent service as always
I usually eat at the Carriage House before going to the PaperMill Playhouse. Great food ..,.... a good meal for the price and great location ....... only a few steps to the theater. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone heading to the PaperMill. I have never had a bad experience or meal at this establishment. I do however recommend making your reservation well before your show night as the restaurant fills up quickly.
I plan to dine here for every show next season.
Love the Carriage House. Really enjoy the plays at Papermill and the delicious dinner before the play equals a fabulous night.
Very convenient for pre-matinee lunch at the Papermill Playhouse. Small but varied menu selection for lunch. Food is very good, especially their soups. Desserts are always a treat
Braised beef was excellent - Service friendly, efficient and very personal
A wonderful dinner before going to the Playhouse. Always good service and ambience
Great food at a great price. So convenient to have dinner on the same premises as the show.
Having tickets for the Paper Mill Playhouse, decided to try this restaurant which shares its grounds. As the matinee began at 1:30, made luncheon reservations for 11:45. The restaurant itself is casual but elegant and consistent with its surroundings, a heavily wooded area of Millburn. The restaurant offers a reasonable priced price fixed pretheater meal and that simplified menu allows them to serve efficiently and make sure that no one misses their show. The food itself is good but not great, however the chef shows flairs of creativity and his playing is superb. In the end, I would definitely go back again next time I go to the Paper Mill Playhouse.
Only open when theater has a show running, Carriage House is always good, fish & seasonal. They were able to accommodate special dietary needs but prefer to be alerted ahead of time. Price fixed dinner isn't always my thing since we dont usually at dessert but we had a good dinner
Our server was exceptional. The food was interesting and good. Nice experience.
I choose the Pea Soup and COD for dinner it was delicious. My friend had the Short Ribs and a Salad, she was very pleased with both. Our server was polite and knowledgeable and helpful with our menu choices. We would certainly go back again.
Setting was lovely. However, be careful if you choose to sit by window. There are no window coverings and sun was very strong for a period of the meal. Also, we were celebrating a special birthday. I called in advance and was assured that a notation was made and a candle would accompany dessert. There was no candle or special decoration- so be sure to follow up when you arrive. The wait staff were outstanding, very attentive!
I brought a friend for her first visit to your establishment. She loved it. I've been dining there for several Paper Mill Playhouse seasons; and as soon as the next season's dates are established, I will call and make reservations for two for each show. Really looking forward to dining with you again.
Great prix fix dinner before “Half Time” at Paper Mill Playhouse. Everything was hot, tasty, and delicious.
Will definitely return!
We enjoyed our meal. We both had the prime ribs of beef which tasted good but were prepared with a little too much salt. However, we enjoyed being there and will definitely return.
Overall, it was a lovely dining experience and I will return. My only comment is that I would suggest you open your bar a earlier so that if you have an early dinner reservation you could sit at the bar beforehand for a relaxing drink.
Food was extraordinary as was the service by the entire staff! Especially Christopher and deena!!
We had lunch at the Carriage House before seeing the show Halftime. Our server and table were perfect. The menu as always had something for everyone in our group. The food is always innovative and delicious. Server was very attentive but not overly. Love this restaurant. Have eaten here many times.
Went before the local theater...pretty and convenient little restaurant especially if you’re going to the Papermill. Food was very good and the service was excellent and friendly! We’ll definitely be back.
Food was good and service was excellent. I would recommend the Carriage House to a friend.
For the price, the chicken and short ribs were average at best. The menu needs help.
The service was very good. Very attentive.
Theater and dinner
excellent food and service as always love the atmosphere
Pre theater dinner. Price fixe nice choices well prepared outstanding service
The Carriage House is charming, comfortable and convenient. It is particularly convenient for those attending the Paper Mill Theatre. I originally selected the restaurant because I have a subscription to the theatre. I continue to try to get reservation there because the food is very good and menu seems to vary to take advantage of local ingredients. The preparation of the
vegetables accompanying the entrée was particularly great and the vegetables were seasonal and fresh.
I will continue to select The Carriage House every time I attend a performance at the Paper Mill and I will consider selecting it for other occasions.
Always go here before performances at Paper Mill. Menu choices are varied, and always taste wonderful! But would LOVE it more if JUST ONCE, the soup of the day is NOT butternut squash based!!!!!!
Great food. Excellent service so easy to eat there and go across the walk to the PaperMill
What a great meal. Our server Alyssa helped us pick fabulous appetizers and entrees. The wait staff was so friendly and efficient. The food excellent. Tried something totally new for me and it was so tasty. Every bite a treat. Can't wait to go back. Christopher made us feel welcome and even Chef Holly stopped by to check on us. Excellent experience and so enjoyable. The entire table had fun.
Went for lunch before the show at Papermill. The only offered a prefix menu. Menu was limited, mostly salads. All small portions. Nothing special.
Perfect pre show meal. Delicious and on time with the performance.
Thoroughly enjoyed my pre-show dinner! The pre-fixe menu had very nice selections which made choosing a little difficult. My Bloody Mary was excellent!
Went pre-theater for dinner. Excellent meal - great service. One must order the 3-course prix-fixed menu, so come hungry. The noise level was fairly high - which for the two of us was not an issue and allowed us to speak without worrying about being overheard.
The service was great and the food was excellent! The noise from the bar was very loud and I wished it was toned down a bit, but all in all the atmosphere was very nice. Looking forward to coming back!
A great start to the Papermill Theatre which featured Harry Connnick JR. Pleasantly surprised with the menu and all was excellent.
I great place to enjoy meeting your friends before the theatre.
I took my mother here for dinner for the second time and everything was wonderful! The room we were sat in was cute and had a fireplace. The drinks were delicious, I definitely recommend the white peach one! The homemade butternut squash soup is the best I’ve had and the desserts here are always creative and amazing. Special shout out to the manager Chris who always takes such good care of his customers. :)
We traditionally eat at the Carriage Hose prior to attending a show at Paper Mill Playhouse. It is convenient and the food is good Staff are always pleasant.
The evening was very nice. My wife had a recent injury and is confined to a wheel chair for the time being. The restaurant and staff were very attentive and kind to her. We did call ahead to ensure we had an appropriate table. The table, the service and the food were all great.
Great service. Food was very good and presented nicely
For a pricey prefix dinner, the choices on the menu plus the food itself were just OK, and the desserts were out and out terrible! Service and ambience were good. The only five star rating I can give goes to the convenience of being right across from the Playhouse (although you pay a $10 parking fee on top of an expensive meal for that convenience).
