Carriage House Restaurant
An eclectic a la carte menu of small plates and desserts is available only in the bar area; seating on a first come-first served basis. A full bar offers premium spirits and a stunning selection of interesting wines by the glass, as well as by the bottle.
Went out to celebrate two birthdays. What a great evening. Wonderful food. Great service. Special time with friends. Alyssa was very attentive, as was Christopher. Will definitely be back!! Went to the show after our meal. Wish we could plan our schedule to go more often. So worth the trip.
The only negative is the price increase. I think $100 per couple, without drinks, is a bit pricey!!
I love the variety of Holly's menu. The thematic matching of food to the show is so cool. The Carriage House is truly a hidden gem!
It was a perfect pre-theatre meal. I would go again.
The chef should allow for substutes on the Prix Fix menu. The restauant was not that busy and my husband did not each 3/4 of his meal because he could not substitute out the vegetables or starch.
Located adjacent to the Paper Mill Playhouse this restaurant is primarily a before-show lunch venue for my wife and I, and we enjoy their show-themed menu and wine selections. This restaurant has come a long way in recent years! Their current chef is talented and the menu is creative. And as isn't always the case with highly-prepared dishes, and the food at Carriage House is excellent.
Always take good care of us with great service, good food, and appropriate timing.
The food was inedible. I couldn't eat it. The combination of the meal was atrocious
I spent ! I spent $50' and went away hungry and angry. I should have sent it back!
The Carriage house is only open when there are shows at the Paper Mill Playhouse. I almost always go there before attending a show -- the food and service are excellent. It makes for a very pleasant dinner and theatre outing.
Delicious! Had the cod- can’t wait to come back! Love the restaurant design!
Pre-theatre meal, pre-fix, was good. The service one minute was attentive and next spotty. Had to hunt down a server for dessert and the check. This not the norm. Normally the experience is excellent.
We had the fixed price menu at lunch before a Saturday matinee at Paper Mill Playhouse. Our reservation was for noon with a 1:30 show. Timing was perfect for a relaxed meal. While the options are limited, they were varied and not just run of the mill American restaurant fare. All courses were delicious, well prepared and the entrees and soup were both served hot. We will definitely be back the next time we have theater tickets.
We went before the show at PaperMill. Our server Chris was amazing! Very friendly and attentive. The whole staff was warm and inviting, and made our time there a pleasant experience. I would definitely recommend to others and return!
Due to extremely bad weather and traffic we were 1/2 hour late for our pre-theatre dinner. The staff and chef could not have been nicer in expediting our meal, which was delicious, while still managing gracious service. We made it to the theatre in time. Thank you.
We have been dining at the Carriage House for years prior to our shows at Paper Mill Playhouse. We have never been disappointed. Staff, ambiance, food excellent!!!
Nice restaurant, good food and good service. What else can you ask for!!!
We were especially happy with the wait staff. One of our party was late, and they couldn’t have been more gracious & understanding.
Delicious food. great service. Always a perfect pre-theater meal.
My husband and I enjoy our post show dinner immensely. Loved the new renovations and decor. The service and staff were great. We enjoyed our creative menu and look forward to making reservations
for after the show for Holiday Inn. Thank you for a most enjoyable experience.

Delicious. Love the upstairs renovation.
Suppressing to see empty tables, wish we could get tables more often
Very good food and very convenient if you’re going to the Papermill. The pre-theater menu was priced fixed and limited, which is ok consider that most people (everyone?) was going to the theater. One thing that was surprising, even though it didn’t bother me at all, is that there was no beef option for the entree. The desserts were not as good as the other courses.
Very disappointed. The menu not good Eaten there and always enjoyed. Not this time. Especially spending $150 a couple
The food, ambiance and service is superb! It is the perfect place for a pre-theater lunch.
Outstanding wait staff. Beautiful decor. Lovely menus. Always dine before Paper Mill Playhouse matinee shows. Looking forward to our next four reservations.
Food is always delicious wait staff always attentive Chris was our waiter he was great
This is a quaint little restaurant which has an outstanding wait staff. They were attentive to our every need. While the food was okay and my greens
were a little too salty, I enjoyed the meal and the overall experience.
Always interesting and delicious choices. Food was very good and the staff was wonderful.
Our waiter, Chris, made our pre-theatre lunch, especially delightful. I have many food limitations and he was superciliously careful making sure that I wasn’t ‘poisoned.’ Thank you, Chris! And thank you chef.
A beautiful start to a wonderful evening....
I found the food ordinary and over priced. The menu was limited and what was shown was not appealing to me.
The Carriage House is a gem. The food choices are great, this past evening I had a hard time picking, I literally wanted one of everything on the menu. My friends and I decided to ultimately to all get different entrees so we could try them all! The wait staff are great, the chef is amazing, and the overall atmosphere is wonderful. I look forward to going again. You really should give this place a try. For a date, a special occasion, before a show, or even just because you want to treat yourself. In addition to a creative menu, which changes with each show, they offer specialty drinks and a fully stocked bar as well. Easy to get to, plenty of parking. Do come. You will not be disappointed.
Table for 2 was great.
We (4) went expecting mediocre and walked blown away with how wonderful the service and food was. From the soups, (even the salads) to the beef ribs and panko cod dishes, our taste buds were happy! (maybe a bit too much salt with the ribs, yet I don't cook with salt) The most excellence came with the raspberry chocolate tart. No words, except "they" do say eat dessert first, life is too short. Something to ponder when one is full yet needing to enjoy the most scrumptious dessert in forever! Joe was very attentive and deserves a shout out for his service! We are looking forward to going back!
Wonderful pre-theater matinee meal and would definitely book again
Fabulous in every way. Just wish it were open all year and not just when the theater had a performance.
Perfect for when you’re seeing a show at the Paper Mill Playhouse. Everything about it was lovely.
Love the restaurant. New server. Never waited on us previously. Poor experience AND one of the worst things that you can do to me while dining out is to bring the check before I finish the meal. Detracted greatly from what was otherwise a very enjoyable experience at this restaurant. Will ask not to have her interact with us in the future.
We were attending a show at 8, and the traffic that evening was high. We were slightly late (15 minutes) and sill were served in a timely fashion. The food was great, as always, and their price-fixed menu makes dining there, pre-show, so easy and delicious!
We always go for lunch here before the Matinee at the Paper Mill playhouse...it just makes the whole day more special...The food is great...they make it special...the plating is lovely...and it all tastes good...no matter what you pick....
