Caroline's- Wine Country Inn
Hidden gem at this time of year!
Server suggested a special wine for a tasting which was quite good!
Our service and food were outstanding, there is no place in the area that can match how charming, warm and authentic this place is. The grounds are gorgeous and our table had an amazing view of the monument and a the vineyard. I especially loved how our server paid attention to us and made great recommendations for wine and appetizers, the whole staff here is so friendly and genuine. We can’t wait to come back!
I hate to leave such a low review...but we read reviews before dining and had a completely different experience/view.
Located at the Wine Country Inn we were surprised by the stark, cold ambiance. We expected a warm, country, inviting atmosphere. It's all one room, with nothing to absorb sound and no music playing, therefore no privacy. You may as well be sitting at the same table as the people next to you. Definitely not a place for a romantic dinner, which is a shame since we saw several couples checking in to the Inn and it was Valentine's Day.
I always appreciate a limited menu. I respect a restaurant that chooses to do a few dishes really well rather than 30 choices that are all done mediocre.
Unfortunately, the limited menu didn't help the food.
The bread was presented by the waitress as "the world's best bread." We love freshly made bread and couldn't wait to dig in. We both tried a bite of the warm, orange bread. It was overly sweet and we set it aside.
My husband had the lamb and I had the prime rib. We both had salad to start and, disappointed by the bread, we ordered the house chips with gorgonzola.
The chips may be house-fried as claimed, but if so, it's done hours earlier as they were cold. The app would have been great with fresh chips and just a drizzle of balsamic glaze instead of a heavy pour.
My husband ordered a red ale and was served an IPA. Twice.
Both the medium lamb and medium rare prime rib were served medium well.
Both were barely warm.
Both were served with non-rendered fat and had little flavor.
The garlic mashed potatoes were, like the bread, too sweet and tasted like they had been made hours ago and reheated.
We would have loved dessert but decided another disappointing course wasn't worth the money.
My wife and I reserved a table at Caroline's and we had no problems getting the time we wanted. I was able to view the menu online and they keep their menu online current, which was very helpful as we knew what to expect beforehand. Our server - Lupita - was very nice and made sure we were being taken care of properly, but without being pushy. We had the roasted beet salad - Lupita split it for us without us asking, which we really appreciated. We each had a bowl of the french onion soup - very well prepared, good taste, not too hot. I had the venison wellington and my wife had the bison meatloaf - both very good. We got plenty of food, unfortunately we didn't leave room for dessert. This gives us a reason to come back! Taking the excellent service, and the excellent food, I would highly recommend Caroline's.
Noteworthy to say the least! We were the only one's in the Restaurant on a Saturday night. Don't let this deter you from trying this Wine Country gem. Lupita gave us the VIP treatment and took our banter and excessive laughter in stride. The wine selections were well thought out offering local and imported options to please all palates and compliment the menu nicely. Beer offerings are noteworthy as well. I can't decide if the Oyster Rockefeller or the duck special was the highlight of the meal. Our server encouraged us to get the frozen hot chocolate to finish. She was so right! I'm not a big dessert fan but the frozen hot chocolate was quite a treat! Much better than the peach bread pudding we also decided to try. My only complaint is it was LONELY. This is the third time we've tried Caroline's. Each time they've been able to 'wow' my husband, and I, and our guests. Check it out! The entrance from the exterior of the building is perfect for guests and locals alike, as it makes you feel you're in a free standing restaurant in the heart of a vineyard. This place is exceptional!
This was our second visit to Caroline's. It has a very welcoming atmosphere. The service is very personal. There is no sense of "being rushed." Quiet setting which in our valley is refreshing. Very well prepared meals that carry uniqueness. Meat Loaf item needs renaming - it is far beyond being "meat loaf."
Very nice surprise in SW Colorado wine country. Great and welcoming service, nice selection of good local wines. Food was good, seemed like the kitchen was still on a learning curve for the menu. Both the meatloaf and the beef stroganoff were flavorful but over cooked. Caprese salad was outstanding. Will definitely return.
We absolutely loved everything about our time a Caroline’s, it was wonderful from the entry into to restaurant to the moment we left the restaurant. The food Wes wonderful.
Price is okay, a little steep for the level of food. Could also do with a higher variety of wine selection, as it’s only local Colorado wines by the glass or bottle
I asked in advance if they could put candles on the table and they did and wished us a Happy Anniversary. I was impressed. The food and the service were excellent.
This place is delightful! My party of 6 were all quite impressed! Our waitress was wonderful, her service was fabulous! The food was superb and the ambience was delightful! I highly recommend it!
Great food. Friendly, prompt service. A nice dining experience.
54 Wedding Anniversary
They have a small but amazing menu. Everything is very fresh and they went out of their way to make a special vegetarian dish for us.
Consistent service, food quality is over the top. Interior design looks more like a bordello.
What a wonderful experience! Caroline's is a top notch fine dining restaurant. The food, the ambiance, the service was outstanding. I wish we live closer to it.
Staff was friendly, but our order was messed up 3 different times. Including drinks, the only course we ate together was the salad-everything else had something delayed.
We were celebrating our anniversary and hoped for a delicious dinner in a nice, quiet atmosphere of the new dining room. The noise level in the dining room was loud when we were seated and got even louder. Our server, Katie, was extremely gracious and told us that she had prepared a table for us in the bar which was quieter at the time, where we finished our meal.
While the French onion soup was delicious, the main entrees were average. The lamb was very fatty and the gnocchi was dry.
We were comp'd my husband's glass of wine and given a free delicious bread pudding as it was our anniversary, it was not a very pleasant experience overall. Katie was the best part of the evening!!! It's our understanding that a fight broke out in the dining room after we had gone to the bar. We likely won't be back due to the noise level and the cost of the food.
The food and service was very good. Limited menu but that's OK.
The dining room was a little odd, we were the only people there until a wedding party of six came in. It could of been very uncomfortable do to that parties issues but we turned it into sport listening to the drunk banter. We would go back but would choose to sit in the bar. The full menu is available there only when the main dining room is open.
Live and learn, we'll know better next time.
This was our first experience with Carolines and we were delighted. the food and wine were excellent, decor was lovely and the ambiance was quiet and intimate. Most of all we enjoyed the service we received from Grant. he was friendly, entertaining and helpful. The remainder of the wait staff was also excellent.
We will definitely be back whenever we are in the area!
Grant was a terrific server and the food was very good. Quaint little ballroomish dining area off the hotel lobby.
Food was delicious, menu expansive and fairly priced. Grant - our server - did an incredible job and was very personable. Would recommend it to anybody passing through on the Western Slope!
Had a great anniversary dinner with my spouse! Quiet ambiance and spectacular service. Great food with a French flavor overtone. Great dessert of bread pudding using Palisade peaches. Hats off to the Chef!!
My husband and I, went for our 10th anniversary. We ate in the bar area. We had a wonderful dinner and time.. Thank you
Great dinner. I had the lamb and my son had the ribeye special. Everything was excellent. Will definately return next time we are in town
Overpriced for the quality of the food
The cocktails and apps were fantastic. Then it was as if the waiter forgot about us because they were not busy. I recommend they use less capers on their veal piccata.
My husband and I and a friend visiting from the Front Range had a wonderful meal at Caroline's. Our waiter, Grant, was very attentive and cordial and the food was terrific. My husband had the prime rib special and my friend and I had salmon with peach salsa -- since it's peach season in the Grand Valley. Both entrees were delicious and were accompanied with fresh steamed vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes.
For special occasions -- our wedding anniversary, New Year's Eve -- or for entertaining guests, we can count on the quality of the food and the service.
Very quiet and nice upscale place for dinner and wine. This is not a place for kids.
Calebrated our anniversary at Caroline's. The service was exemplary, the food well prepared and nicely presented. The lovely dining room is small, only eight tables, so the atmosphere is intimate. Will definitely go back!
Good for the Grand Junction area, but fair overall as compared to a big city such as Denver. Service was good and the meal was prepared after we ordered, not before hand.
Excellent service! Food and drinks were amazing. Would highly recommend for a romantic evening.
We were at Caroline's on a Sunday evening in the off season. There were only two other couples in the restaurant so a nice, quiet atmosphere. Grant provided excellent service and recommendations. We had the steak and duck which both had good flavor but the duck was slightly overlooked. Soup or salad is included plus veggie/starch with meat entree so very filling meal. A vegetarian entree is also available. The merlot blueberry cheesecake was very tasty and shareable. They have a nice wine and cocktail selection and feature several local wines & spirits. If you are staying at the Wine Country Inn, Caroline's is a nice option if you want more of an upscale experience.
A disappointing dinner! Chicken was overcooked and tough. Trout was just blah! Unfortunately, there are not many other options for dinner in Palisade on a Sunday. The bartender in Tapestry was loud and obnoxious. Apparently, he couldn't be bothered to perform the complimentary wine tasting and instead just poured guests a glass of complimentary wine.
Our family of 6 was very happy with our parents anniversary dinner. Food was wonderful and our parents with hearing aides could hear us without background clamor, as is a problem elsewhere. The room has a lovely atmosphere.
My wife and had a wonderful time. It was our 16th Anniversary. Great to be able to some time with her. Our waiter as awesome.
The service at Caroline's was amazing, but that was the highlight of our experience. The food tasted like wedding food, kind of mass produced. For the price it was just an ok dinner.
Service was terrific - attentative without being intrusive. Really enjoyed some unique twists to standard dishes such as the wine-apples on the salad and the sauce with the shrimp cocktail. Steak was cooked perfectly and was of high quality. Will absolutely be going back.
