About
Great food - steak cooked perfectly, and the collards and mac n cheese was spot on. And the Manhattan was perfect!
It would have been nicer to have more selections from the lunch menu. Food was great though.
We had an interesting visit to Carolina 1663. This was our first visit to the establishment under this name (has been others) and we made the reservation because other restaurants were totally booked due to college graduations and Mother's Day. When we arrived, a little after 5:30 pm, we were the only diners in the restaurant. Perhaps because it is in the Sheraton Hotel, most of the tables were set up for groups. Despite us being the only breathing customers, they put us at a table right in front of the kitchen doors. We asked to move and were told the other tables were reserved. We then asked to be seated in the bar. That turned out well because other than one person at the bar (who left in a few minutes), we were the only customers. The bartender was our waiter and did a nice job. The food was surprisingly good (though overpriced) and we ended up enjoying the quiet meal in our own space. Not sure this experience will be routine, but expect the restaurant to not be over-crowded and the food to be good.
Restaurant accommodated us for brunch (14 people) on graduation weekend and even set us up in a private room. The breakfast buffet was very good - variety and quality were excellent. Service was attentive and all of us really enjoyed the experience. Definitely recommend.
Made reservations for Carolina 1663 and placed in a banquet hall at Sheraton with 20-30 other guests. We did not make reservations for a prom hall. With family there too late to change. Very disappointed. Food and service good. No atmosphere. Embarrassing.
Enjoyed our evening at 1663. Notice the manager does not work as hard as the staff. Hope tips are not shred with management.
When we arrived they were closed
Not what is shown on their website! Pick another restaurant!
Wow. Defined not as advertised. Next to the bar as part of a large lobby. This is very much a hotel eatery with very limited found choices.
The restaurant was completely vacant and deserted when we arrived. Are they still open??
The restaurant is closed. The hotel bar is where they're serving a limited and questionable menu. They shouldn't even be taking reservations under the name.
We were in Durham for graduation and had made reservations here. They had a price fixed menu for the evening which was fine. However, it took over an hour for the appetizers to be served. The quality of food was good but the service put a real damper on the evening. They did comp is the bottle of wine we ordered.
It took them 1 hour to serve our appetizers and 3 hour for the full meal. Food quality was poor. Service was not only slow, they were understaffed, did not smile and were not friendly. The fixed menu for graduation only had one vegetarian option - an appetizer salad. To his credit, the manager recognized our poor experience, apologized and gave us a little off of the meal, which was appreciated. We will not eat here again and would not recommend it.
We had a very unpleasant dining experience at Carolina 1663. We had planned a couple of months in advance with the restaurant manager for a group of five families to dine together the evening before the UNC graduation. We were assured that everything was set up and arranged to accommodate our group as far as being seated together, etc. Our reservation was very early - 4:45 pm - because one of the families needed to get somewhere at 7:00 pm and because of the horrendous service we received that never happened!
We were seated and received water - no bread basket and no wait staff - and sat for about an hour without anything happening. At some point, drink and food orders were taken but the drinks never appeared nor did the appetizers. At the one and half hour mark, we went to seek assistance from a manager and still at least another 20 minutes went by with nothing happening. The family with the 7 pm deadline missed their commitment!
The management of the restaurant completely overbooked their catering and restaurant facilities - there was some sort of a banquet going on as well - and was ridiculously understaffed - in terms of wait staff, bartenders and kitchen staff. At $40 per person price fixed, no drinks included, this should not have happened. We were given some portion of our meal at a discount, but only because we asked, it was not offered and, frankly, we would have been much happier had the experience been positive and then gladly paid the full amount rather than getting a break on the price.
Carolina 1663 is most definitely off our list.
Huge disappointment. Five families celebrating UNC graduation together. We were seated together as promised but restaurant was understaffed. It took 1 1/2 hours to place a beverage order and another 45 minutes to receive beverages. The food was awful. The veal didn’t look, taste or seem right. The food service took about 3 hours. One family canceled their food order completely because it took so long. The one waiter was a nice and polite young man doing the best he could.
Didn't knowing was attached to a hotel but food was excellent. Very pleasant surprise....
We had a great Valentine's Day dinner there and were treated excellentmy by the maitre de and servers and the Valentine's Day menu was delicious!
I have no idea why this restaurant was not packed. It was spotless, the food was awesome, the manager came and introduced himself to us, asked if the music was too loud (soft jazz, and we said no, it was just fine). We ate dinner before an evening comedy show on Valentine's day and honestly this was the best meal we've had out in a very very long time. We will definitely be back!
Doors were locked when we arrived. It did not appear these folks were fully prepared to serve guests at the time of our reservation. The food was fine.
My family and I had Thanksgiving dinner at the buffet and the food was excellent the service was superb friendly and very attentive. We had a delightful meal and I would highly recommend this to anyone
Open table did not make it clear that this "restaurant" is inside the Sheraton. We made reservations for the breakfast buffet expecting something more than below standard fare that hotel guests receive for free. By the time we arrived The coffee was cold, the bins were almost empty and the food was stale. It was just bad. Very bad.
Good food, exceptional service.
There was no one else in the restaurant besides our group of 8...and it took forever.
Although this is in a Sheraton, the food was worth coming for, even though none of us were staying at the hotel. It must have been a slow night as our party of 8 were the only ones there. But our server Jordan was terrific. Shrimp and grits were very good as was the cream of spinach soup. Hamburgers got high marks as did the salad. Pork nachos, not so much and the bbq sandwich was cold
We loved our server and the diningroom is very pretty
I absolutely loved the food and service. I was able to get my free desert even though I did not have my coupon feom Open Table. The manager was wonderful. I ended up dining here both nights of my stay. The bar was great and the service qas excellent. I will definitely be back.
My wife and were there for an overnight stay. We decided to eat at the restaurant and made reservations. We arrived at 1830 hours and were quickly seated.
we ordered the fried mushroom appetizer,. My wife had a Margarita and we had the special, Seafood Pasta.
The service was prompt, all the food was delicious and filling. We finished with the Pillow for desert.
Thank you for a great dining experience. Were thoroughly nloyed it.
Kudos to Jamie. He is a charachter and a great asset in every wa y to your establishment. We enjoyed his attention and caring attitude.
We will see you again in October at our next scheduled meeting.
Thank you,

Service was slow. The food was really good and the staff checked on us . Waiter was kind and knowledgeable
Service is good, but value is terrible. For an Easter Brunch, this is below my expectation for the money. I don't need to pay around $50 per person (including tips) to eat something less than what I could have found in a Golden Coral restaurant. Thumbs down on this one.
My wife and I decided to try somewhere new. The environment seemed nice but the employees seemed unprepared for opening. They were rolling silverware a few tables away when we arrived. We were the only two people there at 7:00pm. The music was extremely loud. Our appetizer was frozen, bland, and we even sent it back. I ordered an old fashioned and was told the bartender didn't know how to make it. The waiter seemed new, awkward, and improperly trained. My wife's shrimp n grits tasted bland. My porterhouse was ok except my sides were cold.
I would not recommend and won't be returning.
UVA men's hoops wiped out their beer and food BUT we got a good meal. Strawberry salad good. Fried chix breast with gravy was delicious. Collards were a bit salty, mac and cheese was yummy. Wait staff was super nice. Pot de creme dessert was excellent.
We went to this restaurant for Valentine's dinner (this was our third Valentine's dinner in a row at this restaurant).
They offered a special meal for $49 a person, with several attractive choices for appetizer, soup or salad, main entree, and desert. A complementary glass of champagne was included. There was also a red rose for each couple.
The food was excellent. We chose crab cakes (delicious), chickpea soup and salad (both very good), blackened ribeye, and banana pudding and a valentine-themed shortbread, all very enjoyable. All presentations were very nice.
The waiter was extremely courteous, helpful, and friendly.
On the negative side, there was, unexpectedly, live music. In principle this is fine, but this music was UNBELIEVABLY table-shaking LOUD, and made conversation totally impossible. We asked the waiter if we could be moved to a nearby separate room that we had seen on the way in. Luckily, the waiter did this, and we were very grateful. But even there, the noise level was barely tolerable. I hope the management reads this comment and makes an adjustment.
The restaurant agreed to prepare a Valentine's meal prior to the 14th for us. Unfortunately the chef was not notified. I decided to dine there nonetheless and the staff was very apologetic and went overboard to accommodate us. We had a private room, complimentary drinks and complimentary dessert! They were very accommodating despite the snafu. My wife and I wanted to celebrate much earlier than normal because she was slated to be out of town during Valentine's day. Carolina 1663 took care of everything! Great food!
I should have listened to the reviews, but I wanted to try the fried chicken, only to learn it's a single breast. I was the only one dining in this space in the Sheraton Hotel. The staff was busy cleaning the picture frames, the floors, etc at 6:30 on a Wednesday night, while I was dining. The pop music overhead was too loud. I ended up with the chicken wings, which were OK. The pork chop was dry, the mac and cheese uninspired, and the collard greens had been sitting for a long time, as the bacon was so soggy. Much better options in the area.
We went for Mother's Day brunch. It was quite a haul for us, but that's what we got for waiting until the last minute and making arrangements only a few days before the holiday. Our reservation was for 1:00, and I expected it to be packed. The place was empty. I think there was one other table, maybe two, when we arrived. Therefore, the ambience was diminished right from the get-go, since it looked abandoned and not very festive. This also caused the servers to have a more lackadaisical attitude, walking around talking to each other, sharing videos on their iPhone, and talking like no one was there. Our server was good and the cook was also very nice, coming over to comment about the strawberry cheesecake he had made. My sister and my mother especially liked the shrimp cocktail, which was one of the things that sold me about this place. So that was good. Otherwise, it was overpriced and underwhelming, and I won't be back.
The live saxophone was too loud...even after several people asked to have it toned down.
Food was good. Service was great.
Very expensive brunch for mothers day. Good spread of food choices but not worth the price you pay for it.
The service was horrendous. The food was average. If you want good food and good service, there are lots of much better places near.
Sh*tty food, didn't have most of items on menu for us and we came at 7 pm and no one was there. Very disappointed with everything
Great Easter brunch. Second year we have been here and we will be back. They do a great job with large parties. The food options on the buffet were hot and really good.
The Fried Chicken is great!!! Service was excellent. Order a few appetizers and share with the family - delish - I want to check it out for Brunch. Highly recommend this restaurant
