Carnivale Ratings and Reviews
Huge, colorful, establishment with fun decor reflecting the carnival theme. Rather loud. Great if taken as energetic or creating a party-like ambiance. Not so great for conversation or anybody who is hard of hearing. Delicious and interesting options for diverse diets/tastes, in our case ranging from vegan to steak-lover. Vegetarian/vegan options are not extensive but are delicious. We had a wonderful wine with dinner. Server was attentive without hovering.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. I have been coming here for almost as long as it's been open. This last visit didn't start so well with our reservations being 45 min past time the of the requested. No one was really apologetic about it ( and there were so many people who had the same issue). Thankfully, it was made so much better with our server Omar. He made the experience the Carnivale experience that I have enjoyed over the years! If you can, try to ask for him! Hope the restaurant can not over book and or find a way to limit the time of those who are there for the special Friday shows.
We loved Carnivale! Only complaint was that our waiter seemed to rush us a bit but at least he was attentive. I ordered the yucca gnocchis (I'm vegetarian) and my boyfriend ordered the ribs and we both enjoyed our food very much. Great atmosphere, especially during the shows on Friday night!
Always a great time at Carnivale! Made a reservation for 8:30 but weren't seated until 9:15 so we got a free appetizer and wine. The tackle box was delicious as was the guacamole. Had the hazelnut cigar for desert and it was divine! Will definitely be back.
I've seen the restaurant from the expressway for a few years now and decided to try it out. Made a reservation and was seated promptly. My server and support staff were attentive and very professional. The food was good, however the portions were small for the price. The food didn't WOW me, but wasn't dull either. I had the Black Cod and the portion size was really small for $32. As well, the compliments that came with it was sparse as well. Wasn't very filling. My other guest had similar experiences with portion size. One ordered the ARRACHERA which was tender but again small for a $27 skirt steak that only came with rice/beans. We also had the The Blue Crab Ceviche, which was probably the best thing we ate. Tried the House Ricotta and it was actually very tasty! The drinks were average, but they were out of the ingredients to do the "Mexican Standoff". Surprising for a Saturday night. So we had to order something else. Overall the experience was just okay. For the $$$'s we spent, I just didn't feel that we got our money's worth. I eat out several times a month. So it wasn't a budget issue, but with so many good places to eat in Chicago, they should work of the added value of their menu. Especially since the food was good and not GREAT! Probably won't be going back anytime soon. But if your adventurous, give it a try. A lot of eye candy in decor but lacking in "Bang For The Buck" and "Knock your socks off" Taste! Cheers!
I will definitely come back again and will love a tour of this colorful restaurant the food was excellent my cotton candy drink was awesome 👏🏼 😋my guests had a nice time we will celebrate another birthday 🎂 here again thank you my waiter was very friendly 👍🏼to .
FANTASTIC service from Vana! Knew the menu expertly. Did not pull punches on recommendations. Was very attentive and fun! Food was fantastic - perfectly seasoned, brought out hot, imaginative fusion. Great selection of craft cocktails and a no-miss wine list.
Atmosphere was great. Food was not all that and the waiter was no where to be found when we were ready to check out. It took us a hour to get out food and the waiter took about 30 min after we got sat down. Would not recommend it to anyone, overall very disappointing especially since it was a birthday dinner.
This is my first time ever writing a review, I was so excited to go to the fun colored restaurant, but their host was so hostile and unpleasant because we were late for 26 minutes, they wait only 15. He said it in the way as if he wanted to get rid of us! Or as if he is my boss and i was late for my work! I understand i was late, but at least dont be so disrespectful and aggressive! I was so disappointed and so were my friends! With his attitude he ruined our night! The food and the server were excellent!
We went to Carnivale for my birthday this past Saturday night. I made reservations and we were seated right away. This was my first visit here after seeing the sign from the road several times. Upon entering, I was in love with the ambiance and overall style of Carnivale. It was vibrant and romantic! Entering the main dining room literally takes your breath away! Our server was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the menu. I can't remember the exact names of everything we had. We had two apps, smoked trout dip and some little tacos. For my entree I had something similar to paella, seafood rice (it was AMAZING!) my fiance had a pork shoulder dish and our friends had the baby back ribs and churrasco. Everything was SO good! They brought me a stick of their home made cotton candy for my birthday it was delicious! I can't wait to visit again!
Went there gor anniversary dinner. Good was outstanding. Most notable the fried calamari appetizer. Unlike all others, the sauce made it special. My husband had the ribs which were wonderful but did not care for the slaw ( neither great nor awful) or the corn pudding (too sweet) but he is fussy.
We loved being there and will certainly return.
So I had a reunion with a friend who I hadn't seen in 32 years and wanted to make a good impression. I had previously brought my family for Mother's Day brunch and loved the atmoshere, et al. Unfortunately this time was not good at all. The food was all overdone, dry, burnt in some cases and luke warm. Severely disappointed.
