Brunch menu limited from 10:00am-5:00pm. We were interested in the normal menu for our guests who never have been there.
Took several times to bring our correct order out. Didn’t even offer to compensate or take off bill.
Service was nice but the kitchen kept messing up 3 our of 7 people.
$10 for cotton candy is crazy especially when orders were messed up.
It's the whole whole experience from food to atmosphere.
The service was bad that night. The server made so many mistakes....first, two people from our party ordered the tequila flight and only 1 received it. So that had to be fixed. Then, my husband ordered a dessert port wine, which the amount was very scarce. So he inquired if the pour was correct. After waiting for a while after we were told he was going to speak to the manager, my husband was given another pour and was told it was on the house. When we got the bill, we were charged for both. Lastly, when we asked to have our bill split into the 2 couples, the items were mixed up. After all the mistakes, we figured it wasn't worth the hassle anymore and just paid and left.
My husband and I came here with our couple friends to reenact a couples date night we had about 6 years ago (the first time I met his friends). This was a special night because we will be moving out of state and just wanted to do what we did when we first became friends. The service made it a bad experience that muffled the great experience we had 6 years ago.
The food was excellent and out servers was very informative and polite. The service was also very fast which was awesome.
If I had any complaint it would be the background music being so loud that it’s hard to hear the person sitting next to you speak.
Went for my birthday. The atmosphere was perfect for a birthday. Very colorful, live music, good drinks. The service was great and I like the cotton candy martini :-)
Overpriced for what we got. We weren’t seated in the main dining area with the entertainment so we couldn’t see a thing. I would have understood the overpriced apps and entrees if we had been in there, but since we weren’t I didn’t think it was worth it.
As always fabulous!
Service was friendly and the sggestions were spot on. Food was delicious, and the drinks were just as amazing. Try the steak, you won't be disappointed.
The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous! The menu could be better with more options. For special occasions you can order the candy cotton. It’s very delicious and fun.
Absolutely loved this place. Fun environment, very friendly staff and all the food was delicious. My husband had been once before and wanted to take me and it did not disappoint!
I must say the waiter was very kind and helpful in choosing our meals. The wait was not long at all but I have never had such salty food before in my life. Iit was so salty that it ruined everything for me. I do not have hypertension or any health problems but it was rediculous how much salt was in the food.
We went there for lunch not realizing that we would sit in the front area instead of the dining area. Also the manager walked around asking others how was everything but never came by our table. It's just a different dynamic from the lunch to dinner experience.
Was a wonderful experience shared with the whole family. Drinks and dishes were unique and full of flavor. Service was fantastic. Absolutely recommend to everyone.
The waiter was great but none of the food was hot all lukewarm
This was my second visit for brunch and just like my first time, it was FANTASTIC! I can't wait until my next visit..... always enjoyable and the food is out of this world good
Fun date night out! Loved the ambiance and atmosphere ! Two thumbs up
Our server was wonderful, food was fantastic and we just had a great time for a birthday. Drinks were on point and prices were reasonable for the area.
Let me tell you, visiting Carnivale was truly an exceptional experience! We were visiting from Colorado and let one of the managers, Maria, know that we had a bit of trouble getting to the restaurant and that alone was enough for her to do everything she could to make sure we had a fabulous experience! And we truly did! From our server, to the food, to the ambiance - it was all well worth the money spent. I will most definitely be back here again and again every time I'm in Chicago!
The food was excellent, atmosphere perfect and a great birthday celebration!
We had a great experience. We were there celebrating our friends bachelorette. From the moment we walked in the atmosphere felt welcoming and fun. Dim lights and colorful paintings. Our waiter was great and attentive but the most impressive was that the manager came over to say hi to us. Congratulated our bachelorette and had a 5 minute conversation with us girls. Our waiter later came with a round of shots for all of us compliments from the manager. They also treated us with dessert. We felt so welcomed and well appreciated. We loved our night at Carnivale!
My family really enjoyed this before a show at the United Center. The food was fantastic and the drinks were so good!
Wonderful experience here and will definitely be back. Loved the colorful decor, and quick and friendly service. Drinks, appetizers and entrees were all really good.
CARNIVAL Restaurant April 14, 2018
Music and food- food and Music combine with Roc, a wonderful early evening of dining.
We started with the photo booth and then finding a table. From a wall for two, to a balcony for two, we are ready leave, and Roc point to a table on the main floor. Away we went.
The appetizers were very good although the calamari was very good, not hot. The guacamole was very good
GUACAMOLE Chunky avocados, cilantro, chilies, onion, garlic, lime, fresh corn chips
also without the tomato cumin, and onion that graces our guacamole at home.
The conversation with Maria was over the top.
We talk about Red Light, Vivo(17 years) and Marché former restaurants on west Randolph.
She worked at all of them.
Then we speak Tim Griffin the general manager about the decor that reflected Red Light. The ceiling in the main area is 25-30 feet.
The main course was a real dining with
Baby kale, house-made caesar dressing, gochujang paint, sourdough croutons, shaved parmesan cheese kale Cesar salad
Leonard had rack of lamb (Wood-grilled lamb rack, pastel de yucca, lamb ragout, butternut squash, Closed Loop Farm greens).....
Now to the end the meal was the key lime pie.
To top off the night Brandon Ramsey knows my neighbor for high school .....
Brandon worked with use to find the table ..
We will reruns with the posse .....
The music really move the event.... the music was high energy.....
This was a wonderful, uplifting , and great time..
Really had high expectations for tonight. Seems like our reservation wasn’t made or not quite sure because we were sat in a corner next to the bar where the bar keep kept bumping into our chair. We went for the live entertainment but since we were sat away from the main floor in the corner we did not get to see any of it. The manager did “allow” us to walk up and view it if we wished to but she said it was a two minute dance no big deal. So don’t be fooled this entertainment is only to get you in the door according to the manager. The food was good and the server was nice when we were able to wave him down.
The food was excellent and came to our table very quickly. Unfortunately, it took us forever to get our drinks. Once we received our first set of drinks, it took 30mn to get our second set. Even though, we asked a hostess who came by asking if we needed anything. We told her we were waiting for our drinks for quite a bit and she said she would get them. She never came by.
Great food and drinks! Great ambiance! Will definitely be back!
Celebrated birthdays with friends. Our server was amazing and helpful. Seemed super concerned about our needs and wanting us to have a good experience. The Friday night pop-up show was fun and entertaining. The food is slightly pricey but top notch. Would definitely recommend and go again myself.
I absolutely love Carnivale. The food and the staff are simply amazing!!
We absolutely LOVED this restaurant! The female manager was excellent and stopped at our table twice to see how we were doing. Our food was served pipping hot and the oooohhhh the flavors. We had the salmon with black pearl rice and the pork shoulder with plantains and grits. Cannot wait to take my family back for a special event.
I hadn’t been there in years. Not for any reason and was reminded why I liked it.
This was our first visit and our friends' first visit for the dining room, as they had been to the bar lounge numberous times before our dinner. The food was delicious and the ambiance is great. The wine list could use some work, as we tasted four wines before we found one that was really good without having to go to the "special" wine list [as in significantly higher prices]. We would definitely like to return to the restaurant.
Came for a business meal, and it was a beautiful setting, relaxing for all, excellent attentive service, unique and dramatic food. Bathrooms were a little dingy.
Always an enjoyable meal with excellent service. The consistency in quality of service and the great food makes Carnivale one of my favorite casual dining choices in the Chicago area.
We had an afternoon lunch. They close at 3. We were there before two. Food was good. Service was only so-so. They were more focused on cleaning to get ready to close than serving us. It was quite disappointing, actually.
Service was friendly but very slow. All make servers not a great idea!!!! Had to ask several times for things like lemons for water. Portion sizes small not worth money.
Brought out-of-town guest. Good food. Music too loud to carry on a decent conversation.
OUR SERVER WAS AWFUL ~ we were seated for 1/2 hour before he appeared; then basically rattled off the menu (which we already read); walked away without taking our beverage orders ~ when he took our drink orders, we all got them at various times ~ not all together! It was about 10 minutes later he returned to inform my husband they were out of the beer he ordered. He waited on other tables and took their orders before returning to us (all 3 tables arrived after us; 1 couple ate and left before we got our orders) and mine needed to be sent back.
It was a bad experience which I hadn’t expected. We might NEVER return to Carnivale!!!
The brunch menu is super good! Definitely worth a try.
Waiter forgot to put our entree order in so we waited over a hour for our main course. He also forgot to put in the order for our dessert which we waited another 30 minutes for our slice of key lime pie. Aside from that we had a great time.
We had 7:30 Saturday night reservations and I’d say we were sitting at our table by 7:35, 7:40 tops. It’s a festive place especially the main area. We actually were seated in one of the secluded back areas close to a bar. I thought the waiter while attentive and friendly was a bit slow, but nothing too crazy. Our appetizers were recommended by our waiter and I liked the mini taco looking things. I also tried the cotton candy martini which was descent. For entrees I had the prime ribeye and my fiancé had the lamb chops - both were really good. Her dish came with a weird breaded round cylinder looking dish stuffed with what seemed to be some sort of rice. We both liked it a lot. My steak came with what I called bougee tater tots which were good too.
Overall, thumbs up. If I had to complain I’d say Carnivale is a bit pricey. However, the reasonably priced $9 valet made the tab a bit more bearable.
I really enjoyed the food but was thrown off by the horrible service. I went for my birthday dinner and the waiter was rude and rushing us the WHOLE time from the minute we sat down. When we first sat down he immediately wanted to put appetizers in and we hadn't even opened the drink menu. The minute he gave us our bill (while we were still eating, only 35 minutes in), he waited around the table for our credit cards and immediately grabbed them from us. It was my birthday dinner and my friends had told him to bring out a dessert and the next thing we knew our checks were back at the table and we never saw him again. When you are paying that much for a nice dinner and service is included in a large party, I expect good service. I was so disappointed and the large venue and quick service just felt like you are at a factory and they're trying to turn your table.
