Carnivale Ratings and Reviews
Visited for brunch, and it was just okay. If I come back, it may be to check out the dinner menu. Chicken and waffles were... different. Chicken was good, waffles were desserty and I didn't appreciate that. Side of eggs with veggies were my favorite. Mimosa was skimp and not bottomless. Oh and we paid $8 to park because the complimentary valet attendants were in their car and not visible.
They sat us in the small dining area away from all entertainment. When I originally made the reservation I was not aware that the main room was going to be closed off. We were rushed because the kitchen was closing, which was understandable, but the rice our food came with was hard. Steak had too much fatty pieces and just overall the food wasn't that great. Service was great, and the drinks too.
Carnivale is great! I'd recommend it especially for special events / group luncheons where the buffet is available. The lunch and dinner menus are a bit pricey but many of their pricey dishes are definitely worth trying! This is the perfect place to go if you're an adventurous eater and like to be entertained while you dine. A very vibrant place for sure!
We have passed this restaurant numerous times when we're driving on the Dan Ryan. We have always wanted to try it. My daughter suggested that we try it for my Birthday dinner. We were not disappointed. The food, drinks and atmosphere were great. My only complaint was that twice the waiter had forgotten something (my drink and my son's leftovers). After we asked him about them, he quickly got them for us. we would definitely come back.
The atmosphere was awesome and we were seated quickly. I felt the food was over priced. I paid $27 for some cold rice and steak. My boyfriend’s food was amazing, it was hot and tasty. We informed the waiter that it was my boyfriend’s bday and we expected something like a song or a sparkle or something, we got nothing!
Carnivale was listed as kid friendly but there was absolutely NOTHING that was kid friendly !! First there was NO kid menu . And we could not substitute anything on the menu so my son could eat because it is not allowed on a Saturday !!! My son loves fish but the fish on the menu is heavy seasoned . Food was ok and the ambience was probably the best part . Good for a date but not for a family with young kids .
This was my first time visiting Carnivale for brunch and it was great! Upon arrival, I realized it was a theme brunch day (PJ's), but I never felt out of place in my regular clothing. Food was great, music was great, and service was outstanding! I look forward to coming back and participating in the next theme.
The atmosphere and service was A+ fantastic!!!! The DJ was on point, and it was just a fun place to be. I was disappointed by the brunch menu. It was very authentic and different. I was super excited to try it. I have been wanting to come here for about 5 years since I moved to Chicago. However, I was very disappointed by the food. It was fancy looking and fancy sounding, but SERIOUSLY lacked flavor. Don’t get me wrong, the food was good, it just didn’t wow me like I expected it to. I would only return for the good time, not specifically for the food.
This was one of the best restaurants I have been to in 2 years. The breakfast pajama brunch, who know it would be so creative and as many people would participate. It was great seeing the employees dressed too. My husband was kind of skeptical in going because he thought it was going to be a pajama party for mostly women so he didn't want to come. But when he got here he saw some men were here and it wasn't as bad as he thought. I am going to bring some more people with me this Sunday since there is another one then. I live out in Matteson Illinois but I will travel for great entertainment.
Carnivale never disappoints!! Consistently spectacular!! Everything we had was delicious!! Love coming here. Started with the mixto ceviche. Delicious! Then a filet and shrimp special. And prime rib eye. Both amazing!! Also enjoyed the key lime pie and tres leches. You can't go wrong!!! Love!!
We took my mom here for her birthday in early January. It was awesome! The server had great suggestions and was patient with our group. We never felt rushed and were able to enjoy each course. The surprise birthday treat was an added bonus! We will definitely be back.
Our server wasn’t as attentive as she could have been. She wasn’t quite listening. She brought an incorrect drink for someone, then she offering the dessert menu but when she returned she brought the check. I also requested that my guacamole be wrapped to go so when the to go bag was brought to the table, I assumed it was mine but it was actually my friend’s chicken. The visit wasn’t all bad. My two friends enjoyed their meals very much and the waitress removed the calamari from the bill because I didn’t like it. That was very much appreciated.
All the food was flavorful and enjoyable. We ordered the coconut shrimp(perfect cook, not chewy) the grilled octopus ( never been a fan but it was amazing here) and the ropa Vieja (mini crunchy tacos... kinda) as apps. The aged ribeye was amazing. Our table ordered the churasco steak and the lamb. We also had the Cuban cigar for dessert... the presentation was great but it wasn’t my favorite. I would recommend the the tres leches cake.
We will be back soon!
Carnivale is a fun restaurant with good tasting South American fare. Drinks and desserts are fun and the space has a nice party feel to it. We had three teenagers with us (including a couple of somewhat picky eaters) who all enjoyed the menu and the ambiance. Highly recommend for a fun time and good food.
