We took our granddaughter to celebrate her 20th birthday. She enjoyed the experience.
Anita was very attentive and gave excellent service.
This is always our "go to" place for special occasions. The service is excellent and the food is the best in town.
Always a pleasure to dine here. Excellent food and atmosphere. We have had the same waitress several times and hope we can always get her. She goes above and beyond, extremely pleasant and efficient!
Booked in advance for Valentine's Day and we were promptly greeted and escorted to our table. We were offered the option of having drinks in the library before seating at our table but we declined as we were well ready for dinner. The backlit menus made reading in the lowered light atmosphere a breeze and were a unexpected treat. Everything from the complimentary hors d'oeuvre to the appetizers and main courses plus dessert were prepared perfectly and presented with top level service. This was a special dinner night but the experience ensures that there will be future visits to come.
We think that this is the best restaurant in the State College area. Every meal is excellently prepared and beautifully presented. We had a rack of lamb that was one of the best I've ever tasted.
Great food; great service, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
We loved our food and the restaurant was beautiful!
The restaurant was very elegant and quiet. The staff made you feel like a VIP. We had a drink in the library before dinner and the waitress moved us to our table where we had a very delicious meal. The meal was elegantly arranged on the plate. The waitress was very attentive. The atmosphere was light and happy. I would recommend this restaurant to our friends, especially if it is a special occasion. We will dine here again.
Lovely atmosphere with delicious food.
Very nice evening and experience . Terrific lamb and very good service.
I had the Dover sole which was very good; my husband had the salmon which he said would have been better if it had a sauce or something on it as it seemed dry & needed 'something'.
Otherwise, the meal was delicious!
Delicious dinner, very good service and lovely evening. We enjoyed our night out and look forward to our return. Food was so delicious and server was so nice and very attentive. We met the chef for a moment and look forward to trying the chef's table. We did think the music was too low initially and other conversations were a little too prominent. But it seemed that the music got going after some point and this helped round out the noise.
Nice ambience, good food, relaxing dining experience
We would go back again. Only minor complaint was service was so attentive we were asked same thing by a couple of people as they did not communicate among themselves. Food was well prepared and tasty. I has the salmon, it was properly cooked and flavorful. My husband had the ravioli which was also prepared well and flavorful.
Wonderful dinner- great food and great atmosphere.
We enjoyed a very nice dinner with our daughter before taking her back to college for her spring semester. The ambiance was quiet and elegant, and the cuisine was well worth the price.
Our server was pleasant and attentive to our needs, and we never felt rushed during our dining experience.
Overall, we would recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a fine dining experience.
We have dined many times before, with satisfactory results, at the Carnegie House Restaurant. We returned because we liked the quiet ambiance, good service, and "straightforward" cuisine based around locally acquired ingredients. Our most recent meals (on 12/27/17) were disappointing because of the mixing of too many tastes within single dishes. We ate the wild salmon topped with nuts and plated atop spiced butternut squash risotto and a champagne sauce. The fish was perfectly cooked, but its delicate flavor was entirely ruined by the incongruous topping of nuts and particularly by the distracting risotto. The spices of the risotto so conflicted with the taste of the fish and the quite nice sauce that the whole experience was like eating the contents of a dumpster at an expensive restaurant. We hope that the restaurant will go back to basics.
Top notch! Been there 4 times. Have never been disappointed. Outstanding!!
My husband and I recently went to Carnegie to elebrate my one year “cancerversary.” It is an incredible dining experience in State College. Chef Paul is wonderful and creative, making excellent choices of additions to classic meals. Our wine was also delicious. We enjoyed cocktails in the library before dinner and loved having a few moments to prepare ourselves for our romantic dinner. The service was absolutely perfect as was the entire meal. We were able to order from the new winter menu and the selections were hard to choose from! Everything looked amazing. I enjoyed spare ribs and my husband had a divine roast chicken. We each had a salad, too, and both were so tasty and unique. We started the night with a foie gras that was simply incredible. We can’t go to Carnegie often, but when we can afford it and have a reason to celebrate, this is our number one spot.
Carnegie House vastly improved with the new chef & cuisine.
Unique setting for a special dinner.
Never experienced a dinner like they provided.
Will return soon.
Fantastic meal. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. Love the light-up menus too!
One of the best out there! From the time you arrive, treated special. Escorted into the Library for a cocktail and given menus that the page lights up when opened. Food, drink, service are all extraordinary ! Highly recommend it! Even better when the weather allows you to sit outside!
The evening began in the library with cocktails and a delicious appetizer. It went downhill from there. Our server had no personality and we felt rushed to order. When we asked if our table was needed for another seating, we were told it wasn't so we didn't understand being rushed. The lamb shank was good, salmon and halibut just okay. A few examples of routine touches that were missing, we had to ask for an ice bucket to keep our bottle of white wine chilled and also had to ask for fresh ground pepper. Attention to detail was lacking as well. Our table candle was not lit and price stickers were on the poinsettias that served as the table centerpiece. I understand there is very little, if any, fine dining competition in the State College area but was hopeful the image the Carnegie House presents would match the experience. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.
Excellent food [only four stars since it does not have Michelin ranking], wonderful ambience and great service. Expensive, but value.
The hostess was very awkward in taking me to my table ... when I got seated I ordered a wine and wasn’t served the wine until 20 minutes into waiting when I asked for it and after my server opened a full bottle of wine and served it to the table next to me who sat down after I did. The food was OK, not worth the extra $$...dining room was small and therefore loud, you could hear everyone’s conversation in the room.
As always, the restaurant never disappoints. It was an excellent experience.
For the amount of money each meal cost it was Definately not worth it. When your spending $600 for 4 people the service should be OUTSTANDING it was poor at best!
We sat waiting for them to take our drink order for 25 min. It was embarrassing to take my in laws there. Won't be going again.
My husband and I have dined here a number of times and they had gone through a rough patch but they have gotten their act together. It was a lovely meal.
Overall a good experience, kind of felt like we were playing the game "CLUE" when they took us to the library for drinks and appetizers. The Christmas decorations were great and the fireplace gave the library a nice ambiance. Service was on spot but no personality or spontaneity which would of made the evening better. Food was as expected for the cost but could of been more inventive.
Restaurant and food is great. Service was good although seemed very rushed. Before we ordered a drink in the library we were offered our table. Then 3 times while enjoying a cocktail were bothered/handed menus. Good experience overall but not as relaxing as I would have liked from the Carnegie House.
I can highly recommend the Thanksgiving dinner. Very traditional and tasted great. The pecan pie was the best that I have ever had. The ambiance was quiet and refined, and it was clear that everyone was having a wonderful time. I would highly recommend the experience and hope to experience it again next year.
Great setting and service. Her crabcake was excellent. My steak was a poor quality cut for a ribeye. Gristle throughout and not what I expect for the price. Other food was excellent. I would recommend dining here but do not choose the ribeye.
It is a small, intimate restaurant whose every service, food, and ambiance is always on point.
Carnegie House is without a doubt the finest dining in State College. It's definitely worth a visit.
Best restaurant in State College. The food is great, atmosphere wonderful - love having cocktails in the library before dinner. Always try to visit when we are in town.
We were greeted by a wonderful hostess, Dawn. We visited the library where we ordered drinks. While we were seated, Dawn served us a complimentary appetizer. It was delicious! We were then seated at our table and given the lighted menus. The dinner was exceptional. Hats off to the chef. We will definitely return.
Beautiful place, wonderful atmosphere, grand service.. will definitely eat there again..
The restaurant reminded me of being in a old upscale house. The library room was very nice, we had an app and a drink there before being seated.
I ordered an app ( The foie gras), salad ( the Brie cheese salad) and venison filet for dinner. The app was tasty and flavorful. My salad was good, nothing to rave about, a solid salad. My dinner was over cooked, I asked for mid rare, received medium. The venison was tasty and moist, but over cooked for my taste. I did try their homemade steak sauce which was good( it was sweet tasting).
Dessert was good, nothing spectacular.
Overall , it was a decent meal. It was a solid dinner, no frills or thrills , nothing that made my palate go omg this amazing.
I’ll head back, but won’t make a special trip back.
e always dine at Carnegie Inn & Span on special occasions, this time it was my birthday.
This is the go-to restaurant in state College for a romantic dinner. My wife have been coming here for years and are never disappointed. Excellent food, great wine list, great service and atmosphere.
